      And it can be a gigantic time/money sink for the Allies AND the Axis; really, does Italy HAVE to build 2-3 carriers + planes + open up the suez for Japan’s fleet just to get the 10 IPCs from Africa for a few rounds?  Or even the +20 with NOs from Africa and the Med, which the Allies can easily negate with SBRs and North Africa drops?  I’m leaning more towards Jenn’s strat with Italy, Africa is a minor theater and will never decide the course of the game unless the Allies simply ignore it.  IF you can get both Italy’s NOs for a few turns early game its worth it, but barely worth building all navy with Italy to hold, when those extra resources can be thrown at Russia.

      Then you should read up on the German Turtel.  It’s a passive-agressive strategy that has worked very well.

      Nix has had some good success with his FIC open.

      Removes a Japan FIG (making it as valuable a strike as Ukraine for Russia on R1), destroys land forces preventing any chance of India fallign on J1, no matter how much AF he brings (assuming TRN off Kwang is sunk by DST/AC combo), and also weakens the attack on China.

      And goddess forbid the UK FIG lives and lands in China…  1 less FIG, 1-2 less INF for that attack by Japan… and against two 2’s and two 4’s…  Japan can win, but they will be THIN in Central Asia, non-existent in Soutern Asia, and possibly with Russia on their doorstep threatening Manch in northern Asia.  And still the US Pearl Counter, and some pesky UK ships around Australia to deal with…

      Indeed, and also very useful to attack the German fleet- otherwise you almost have no opportunity to land your planes. Brings a new perspective to my game.

      I’d advise that you give Karelia up in R1. If you build 3 Inf, 3 Arm and are a bit lucky with your rolls (attacking at least WRU, maybe UKR), it’s even possible to drive German forces out of Karelia in R2 (although not likely).

      Yes, there are benefits to suiciding your BB and Tran in W. USA to sink the Jap fleet if you can sink it’s fleet. The cost alone might be worth it for the USA.

      Also, the only mainland invasion I could sorta recommend, and not even that really, is Brazil. Still, it detracts vital men and material from the real battle and could cost Japan the game.
