    • RE: Axis & Allies Minis to Flames of War Conversions

      @Obergruppenfuhrer:

      Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay was the roleplay I gamemastered for a period of 4 years. It was brilliant. One book. That’s it. No compendiums, bestiaries or rule revisions. It was all on the Gamemasters imagination to create something new within the rules. I had a huge group. I spent hours in my notebooks which contained full blue prints to every building they would ever enter, full bios on characters they would meet and detailed maps of their every surrounding. I even had many different random generators I designed for when they entered huge cities. These detailed what specific buildings looked like and what they would come across. I spent my life in those notebooks and my gamers were totally hooked. That was one of the most fun games I’ve ever played where my writing and imagination could really shine and make everyone have fun.

      Of course, like every roleplaying game, there comes a time to retire players and quit or start over. The cool thing is the one magician in my group worked for 3 years to get his character to a place of power. During the 4th year he became powerful enough where no enemy or entire army could stop him so we retired his character. What was cool is his journey to get that powerful took 3 real years.

      Props to the guy with the magician.  I’ve played WFRP (I have all the old books and some of the new ones) and every adventure we’d lose 20% of the characters.  And a starting Wizards Apprentice in Warhammer was about as touch as the Rat Catcher’s (Small But Vicious) Dog.

      @Obergruppenfuhrer:

      Ok Question:

      I’ve just ordered a

      Fuel Depot
      Ammo dump
      and Pill Boxes.

      Do Pill boxes block line of sight. (Becuase they should.)

      and with ammo depots, can you only reroll for the 1’s once a GAME or once per turn, or once per turn, per unit.

      Your help would be greatly apprectiated.

      1.  No.  A hex is 100 yards, a 30-foot bunker doesnt block LOS.

      2.  Ammo dump is all your units every turn.

      @Ducky:

      I went to Staples, paid to have them printed in b/w and coil bound. $19 all said an done. The cards came out great.

      Can you take a picture of that and post it?

    • RE: Trucks, Tiger Tanks, and Me 262 for A&A Europe

      I dont have BotB, but now I’m curious after hearing about the new figures…

      I think game turns are 3 months (plus A&A Europe games dont last more than, say, 10 turns) so I wouldn’t bother with the turn limits.  Keep it simple.

      Tigers were very heavily armoured, I’d be inclined to either give them 3 attack, 3 defense or give them 2 hits like Battleships.

      The Jets tech in the original A&A granted defense 5 to Fighters…though I guess a +1 on offense is OK too.

      Trucks…I guess you’d treat them like Transports right…can carry 1 Inf or 1 Artillery upto 2 spaces, and they themselves are a 0 Attack, 1 Defense unit.  The question is, how much do they cost?  At 3 points, how many would Germany buy?  Probably not more than 3 or 4 right?

      I recall reading that the Poles (I think…maybe it was the French) would cut the wires of the Goliath to defeat them before they detonated.  They were remote controlled, not radio controlled.

      @Jermofoot:

      Ommegang is a wonderful beer.  I like the Three Philosophers particularly.

      Great stuff.  I picked up a case on a visit to their brewery, which close to where I grew up.

      My head spun when I saw Ommegang for sale for 5ish dollars in ags stations in upstate…here I have to go to a big liquor store to find it and its 7ish dollars or more!

      I haven’t played A&A Europe in 3 or 4 years, but I used to PBEM all the time.

      Are you familair with using this website to play games?  If you wanted to give it a try, I’d be curious to see what you do differently than most I’ve seen.

      I think it has more to do with the competence of the German player than the incompetence of the other Allies…

      @Motdc:

      Good topic!

      I like your list, though I play 100 pts and still owuldn’t field the Nashorn.  I’ve used the Chaffee before and am glad tp see its got a more reasonable price.

      My answer is:

      #1.  The entire Soviet Army!  With the improvements to the Commisar, you can actually use the Mosin and other Soviet infantry units.

      #2.  The French grenade guy the Lebel whatever, is now a playable unit for hsitorical builds (year and country specific).  Shrapnel lets them take on the 5/5 Infantry, and they throw 4 dice at med VS vehicles.

      #3.  The German Light Mortar was crap before because you had to be at Med range.  It now can reach into long range.

      #4.  The Italian core infantry unit (the one with Bravado) is now an 8/6 I think…that makes the Italians fairly playable.

      In number 4 are you reffering to the 81mm? That thing is ridiculous at 16 hexes with spotter capabilities.

      The original poster was asking about the new units stats that were released last week for all units ever made…and which ones are now finally playable.  For #4, I think the Italin unit Fucio Modello (the stock infantry units) was changed to have better stats, which I feel makes it a playbale unit.  Before, he sucked so bad I wouldnt spend 3 pts on him.

      If you lik the Brummbar, note that they officially added the Sideskirts special ability to it!

      @Obergruppenfuhrer:

      I don’t have these revisions yet, but I heard the SS Panzergrenediers went UP 2 points. Screw that with a rusty fork. I shouldn’t complain AT ALL though. As soon as I have all that revised crap figured out: I love that German half tracks are cheap now and the same goes for the Panzer Ausf III g. I love fielding those tanks.

      The SS-Panzergrenediers were bumped up to 7 pts several years ago actually.  (Rangers too by the way).

      #5.  Panzergrendier

      He’s down to 4 pts, still has CA 8 and Mechanized Tactics, but now has 8/6 AI stats.  Very nice unit.

    • RE: A&A minies versus Tide of Iron

      To reiterate, Tide Of Iron is a board game, in that its not collectable.  Everyone gets the same stuff in their box, just like other board games.  They have an expansion that adds some more units and scenarios I think, according to the website.

      I’m considering putting ToI on my Christmas list, if I here enough positive reviews of it.

    • RE: Aircraft vs. Sniper Question

      The new revised rules added the Agility SA to the zero, while keeping it the cheapest fighter at 12 pts…so maybe they are not as bad as you might think!  You can easily field two in a Japanses build.

      HT and DK, you will be happy to know that units riding on the backs of tanks can now be targeted.
