      As the US, I look at it as a target of opportunity. If Japan leaves it open, I’ll take it. If not, I’ll bypass it and use Australia.

      The thing about the Carolines is that it isnt a whole lot of use to Japan early on, but it is serious pain if the US has it. It allows 1-turn access to many critical locations and that alone makes it worth defending with Japan. But it’s a convenience for the US, not a necessity so it’s not worth taking heavy losses over. I just count it as one more place that Japan has to keep a decent force to discourage the attack which further spreads Japan out.

      So in short, the Carolines are not a vital strategic target, but they are a gateway for other critical targets. Take it if you can, but keep in mind that there are other ways to those same targets if it’s too well defended.

      I think an airbase on land should be a bit cheaper. The biggest advantage is the scrambling ability. But you are not allowed to scramble from land territories. So the usefulness is halved. So maybe airbases on land should cost 8?

      Its the UK I feel bad for, by turn 3 or 4 they are down to 2-4 IPCs a turn, esp with Jap subs next to India.

      I am not so sure if urban areas caused increased causalty rates, they did certainly slow down attackes and were hard to take hold of and were a contributing factor in 200 day hell that was stalingrad.

      Perhaps you could try limitng attacks on “urban” territories to one round of combat. Attacker fires, defender fires, and if the attacker has not won he must retreat. This would certainly make it more difficult to take these territroies and if would require that the attacker brings alot of firepower with them, so they can kill everything of the first round.

      When my group plays AA50, we often limit the combat rounds too one or two, it allows for alot of strategy aswell as making room for rules that better represent tank warfare.

      If your playing this rule with A&AEurope, I would predict that this rule is going to make moscow(which often has 30+ infantry in it) aswell as Leniggrad and stalingrad very difficult to take, so to make sure the game does not become favor the allies too much i would increase the German additional setup money from 12 IPCs too 20-30 IPCs.

      I think what he means about Larry giving him what for is that he won’t divulge sensitive info to him anymore if he goes and blabs about it to all of us. Oztea looks spot on from what I reckon and think about it this way guys, AAP40 is coming out next week so be happy!
