    • RE: Question regarding American paratroopers

Hopefully they’ll bring in the Fallshirmjager for a Mediterranean focused set.  That would be nice with a Crete scenario.

I hope the next set has German and British paratroopers.

    • RE: Mel Gibson's future movies

Luc Besson did a Joan of Arc movie but it was really brought down by the focus on her scizophrenia (or maybe her prophecies - we are never really sure) in the early parts of the movie.  That and one particularly disgusting scene that makes Nazi propaganda look tame in comparison with its view of the English.
It’s still a pretty good movie though, and I think Dustin Hoffman as Joan’s conscience (or maybe he’s an angel, again we don’t know for sure) worked very well.  The acting is superb except Joan is just annoying as all hell.
I’m sure if Mel does one he will focus more on her as a saint and less on the confusion and the bad, bad English.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind Mel making more religious themed movies because they are interesting.  I’m not a Catholic myself but I can still enjoy it.

    • RE: Terrain and Hex maps

I’m going to buy one next weekend but when I go to play, I’ll try and find out what it’s officially called.  Till then……

What are the 15mm terrain pieces that you are talking about?  Any links for purchase?

    • Terrain and Hex maps

For new maps I’m going to buy an oversized Hex Blanket.  Four by four feet seems good to me.  What about terrain features though?  I was thinking about getting the Memoir '44 terrain pack but it only covers so much, and to get more I would have to buy the actual game.  I don’t know if I want to invest in that for a game I’m not going to play.

    • RE: Campaign game you would most like

I really like your last idea.  Think about how great it would be to have an ‘eastern front’ campaign that covered from Barbarossa to the end.  Front-specific game would be the bridge between the theater and campaign focused games.

    • RE: Axis & Allies Miniatures Set 3: Contested Skies

Good to see the minor powers getting some officers.Â

The aircraft will give good scenarios for doing particular battles if you only get one side.  Mostly Axis for Barbarossa, mostly Soviet for Stalingrad and the late war, etc.

I was apprehensive about getting these sets after seeing the previews (Luftwaffe infantrymen?) but the list actually looks pretty damn good.

    • RE: Axis & Allies Naval Miniatures

The prospect of landing craft really sounds intriguing.  I’m hoping that the Naval Minis will work as standalone AND with the originals.  Plus, you could have special naval-only aircraft.

    • Campaign game you would most like

With the D-Day game already out, and the Battle of the Bulge on the way, Campaign games are expanding the A&A world in a great way.
What decisive battles would you like to see next and how many players would they have?

Stalingrad seems an obvious choice because of its popularity.  I think it could have three players if you include the Rumanian Armies.  You could also set the date, from early or in November during Operation Uranus.

      Kursk:  Two players

      El Alamein:  Two Players

      Stalingrad:  2-3  (Romanian units also)

Guadalcanal also would be a great one.

    • RE: Japanese strategies

Well depending on where they were.  At Edson’s ridge, they tried again and again with charges.  At Iwo, Tarawa, and many others, they dug in and built elaborate fortifications.  Tanks in the Pacific were mostly used as stationary anti infantry guns.

    • RE: Mel Gibson's future movies

Sometimes I don’t like to have to overthink my epics.  Mel’s movies are all about emotion.  That and good action.

    • RE: Soviet Grenadiers Preview

This one’s good and will really outmatch the Rumanian grenadiers, historically known for their tank fear.  Hand to hand is pretty cool too, although Angriff is still one of my favorite specialties.

    • RE: Lebel Grenadier Preview

None of the 1939 units are all that appealing to me, just because it must be limited.  I like to go right into the heart of the conflict, and this one doesn’t measure up in a western theater scenario……although it may be interesting to use in an alternate history or other conflict scenario.

So low tech, hyper aggressive tactics are the way to go huh?  Sounds as good as anything.  I’ll give that a try next chance I get.

    • RE: Unfairness of uber-Tanks

I agree with GrimJesta.  If you suffice quantity for quality to an extreme, you are just asking to get surrounded.  Especially considering that the stronger tanks can’t move as far.

    • RE: Japanese strategies

No way it’s as bad as an all China Army.

An advantage of Japanese armies are the Imperial Snipers, which are probably the best sniper in the game if you are fighting in a heavy woods map.  America has the best officer (Red Devil Captain) for medium/long range against personel, so if you take them all out, you’ve got a good move.  The biggest problem is the inability to fight against tanks.

    • RE: Axis and allies battle of the bulge coming out November!!!!

No I just think that if they did have Peiper in a game they should also have Meyer or Wunsche or dozens of others.
It’s not necessary though.  There will be plenty of other ways to rethink the battle.

    • Mel Gibson's future movies

So this topic isn’t about Bush or anything, so maybe it’s kind of out of place, but I am very interested in what Mel Gibson will make for his next movie.  He’s done three big war movies in the last ten years, and I had expected him to do a Civil War one or something.  So what’s next from Mel?

    • Honor and Infamy (Commander upgrade for A&A)

      http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/19362

Has anyone played this yet?  I think it would be an interesting turn on things.  What I like is that this isn’t a reverse of the rules, but an evolution on them.  It looks like it would open up some new options and I’m interested.
