    • RE: Ger. and Am. piece colors switched!!!!

      I was thinking of using the german olive drab pieces as Chinese since they did wear the german helmet.  The gray american pieces I was thinking of making them either Anzac or Polish units.

      militaryman077,
      I will gladly do that after I get moved into my new house.  Everything is in storage.  GHQ is a US company and is fairly expensive to purchase and their barrels on tanks and artillery need TLC.  Heroics and Ross and Davco/Navwar are English companies in the UK.  Their products have less detail but they don’t break as quickly as GHQ from rough handling.  The UK companies cost less but, US Customs and shipping charges may bite you like a Great White!

      Thanks, for the info.  I guess I’ll stick with plastic pieces.

      @JimmyHat:

      Good to know its common, I got my version back from a friend after a few years, when he had used the pieces to make his own board game.  Getting my 2 copies back I couldn’t even make 1 whole German army, and all the Gray soldiers in USA sculpts were missing!  I figured he sold them online as an oddity, but if they are common then I’m not so worried.

      the pieces are no longer being produced so they should be an oddity of sorts.

      Just got my first order from FMGs today.  Three more sets are on the way.  The sets are packaged inside i small 5"x 3" x 2" cardboard box with 6 dividers. each divider holds a bag filled with 26 pieces: 9 naval, 4 infantry, 1 leader, 5 ground vehicles, 2 anti tank guns and five air units.  All my bags came uniform with respect to pieces except for one bag which had one fewer piece of infantry and one extra leader.
      One semovente came with the turret missing so I’m going to make it a command vehicle/personnel carrier.

      Don’t forget to type in “Rommel” on your follow up orders to get the $5.00 discount!!!

      Great job, Jeremy!!!

      Just bought an older version of Axis and Allies at a thrift shop for 10 bucks.  I was going through the pieces when i noticed that the germans are in olive drab and the american pieces are in gray.  How many of these  switched color pieces were released before they caught the error?

      I"d like to insert a photo of the pieces; how do I do that?

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      I am told it will be reprinted in FEB 2012.

      Kinda silly that they left the Christmas season like this.

      dANKE, HERR FELD MARSHALL. I BOUGHT TWO COPIES FOR JUST 79 DOLLARS EACH BEFORE THE DISTRIBUTOR RAISED THE PRICE THIS WEEKEND TO OVER 120.  NOW I DONT HAVE TO BUY LOOSE PIECES. WISH YOU COULD PUT THE FRENCH AND ANZAC ARMIES ON FAST TRACK FOR IMMEDIATE PRODUCTION. PLUS I’D LOVE TO SEE A SIDE OR BOOSTER SET TO ADDRESS THE PAUCITY OF ITALIAN TANKS IN YOUR ITALIAN SET (AND POSSIBLY IN YOUR FORTH COMING GERMAN SET)  AND THE  INFLATED PRICES FOR THE MECH INFANTRY AND TAC BOMBERS FOR EUROPE 1940 SET THAT I’VE BEEN SEEING RECENTLY.
      IT WOULD BE NICE IF EITHER YOU OR/AND COACH COULD ADDRESS THIS.

      p.s. just got coach’s minors sets. will convert opel trucks to Mechs!!!

    • RE: Review of FMG Italians and HBG Axis Minors

      I’m quite sure my comments in future years to come will be looked and and people will chuckle at my concern about the pricing, especially if the carro armato reaches five dollars a pop.
         I was on Larry Harris’ design forum last nite and was browsing through the posts for the Axis and Allies Anniversary post circa November 6- 26 2008 and just see we can all take things in the right perceptive regarding us taking things for granted now that we have two marvelous sellers to buy different pieces from.  Back then we didnt have that luxury. Here are  a couple of posted that really got my attention.  The first is from a guy who just got up after reading Larry’s description regarding what is new for the AA50 and decided to just go to the nearest hobby shop and pick up one or two. lol. The other post had to do with a person who wasn’t too happy with the color of some of the pieces in AA50.

      Here is on excited person that can’t wait to go out and buy his copies of Axis and allies Anniversary Edition after reading Larry Harris’ forum about what’s new in the set.
      Off to pick up my copy (or 2 if they have them)…can’t wait!!

      proud owner of not one, but two sets

      "checking things out now, but I have to run back to the store and pick up some cold ones to celebrate.

      Interesting that the back cover does not show the new units."

      This post is truly ironic because the person assumes that the Anniversary Edition will have a later edition to address an issue that he has with the color of the tanks.
      I bet he regrets he didnt just go out and buy ten more copies.

      But, I wont buy more copies until they fix the tank molds.

      @WARRIOR888:

      Gents, I am using all different units in various scales in metal and plastic from GHQ, Heroics and Ross, Davco/Navwar, OOB, FMG, HBG and Tide of Iron.  I am using Ben Steins German units to rep H Class Battleships and UK Vanguard. The Officers all are FM Rommel, SS Infantry and Regular Infantry are being used as supplemental Germans and Axis Commanders. The 88mm Flaks and multiple rocket launchers are being used by all Axis Forces.
      Truck issue with the Italian FMG, Try to think of it as a heavy truck and you won’t have a problem with the scale size. Italian army of WWII had light, Medium and Heavy trucks just like all other nations including the IJA.  If you spend time painting them like many of us long time AA players do, then size is negated by the massive new painted inventory of playing units.
      AGAIN HBG AND FMG YOU ROCK!  KEEP PRODUCING UNITS THAT AVLON HILL/WIZARDS OF THE COAST WILL NEVER CREATE!

      WARRIOR888

      Warrior can you show us a pick of a ghq tank and axis and allies tank so that we can see the relative size diffrerence? Was thinking of purchasing some tanks from ghq and wanted to know if they match up nicely with the axis and allies tanks.

      Supply and demand is why it’s so high and at Christmas time.
      I still hear it is being reprinted though.

      Hope the reprint comes out soon. When it does i’ll buy like ten copies from coolstuffinc. like imperious leader does. happy holiday to all.

      Please vote! I know that FMG’s German set is probably in molding by now, but we still have time to change future sets.

      This is your chance to be heard if you don’t like the size of the FMG truck, or think HBG’s pieces should match the FMG scale.

      Yeah, but didn’t someone just buy like 80 of those FMG trucks from Coach’s site.  My attittude is to each his own.  I have a feeling down the road that truck is gonna be a huge collectors item.

      Militaryman,

      Nearly ALL of us want more tanks, just as nearly all of us needed more tacs and mechs for the 1940 games. If coach only gets 6 tanks per Italian set from FMG, he needs to sell them at a price that makes sense. Let’s say FMG is selling him Italian sets wholesale at $30, that means that if he sells the tanks at $0.55, he recoups $3 of his cost and is stuck with a TON of pieces that a lot of people don’t need. It gets even worse if people order lots of tanks - say you order 30 tanks, or 5 sets worth, at $0.55 - coach gets roughly $15, but is left with $135 worth of inventory to sell that is not as desirable!

      And that is without Coach MAKING A SINGLE DIME OF PROFIT (see I can use all caps too!). I still think the tanks are too cheap, btw. $9 for 6 tanks is not that bad…

      Yes, but your “sky is falling” attitude about the scarcity of the tanks is not true.  All FMG has to do is put in a new order for tanks and presto, he has more tanks. They didn’t throw the mold away in China did they???  Ok, I stand corrected.

      @reloader-1:

      At a bare minimum we need at least one more tank slot in the mold for all countries, especially US/Germany etc. 6 tanks for $40 is not viable, and lots of us will have the same idea in buying them from HBG. I can see HBG charging $5-6 per tank, as someone who buys a $40 FMG set doesn’t really need more ships or planes, but definitely needs more tanks. Remember that HBG doesn’t want to lose money selling the tanks from the Italian sets and being stuck with 6,352 carriers and battleships…

      THANKS ALOT, RLOADER, FOR GIVING COACH THE IDEA TO RAISE THE PRICE ON THE CARRO ARMATO FROM  55 CENTS A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO TO $1.45 TODAY. I’D RATHER BUY COMPLETE SETS THAN PAY THAT MUCH FOR ONE TANK.

      I"ve been looking for this game in stores and everyone seems to not have it in stock. Is it discontinued and if so how long ago and what other game is there that one can buy to replace it. I dont see any other axis and allies games with BOTH Italian and French infantry so what is a person to do.  Ebay prices are mostly over a 100 dollars.
      Your take on this?

      I have heard that it is out of print until after the first of the year, where they will revise the game (Rules probably) and then reprint the game. I guess Europe 40 was more popular than Pacific 40. That’s all I know.

      COACH,
      IF THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE REPRINT IN 2012 THEN WHY IS IT BEING SOLD FOR SO MUCH RIGHT NOW? AMAZON HAS IT FOR 300

      I want to give a shout out to Historical Board Gaming.  I’ve bought multiple times from him (last order included 100+ pieces) and he’s got everything.  It’s pretty legit.  And shipping was fast too.  There’s my plug from a happy customer  :-)

      How much does one have to spend in order to get free shipping from HBG?

      @Gamerman01:

      @ghr2:

      I got into the board game too late to buy the 50th Ann :(.  Did not know the game (A&A in general) even existed untill 2004/2005.  They know how to keep a low profile.  First copy i ever got was spring 42 in 2009

      Spring 42 is a good game!  It’s like the Anniversary edition rules with its own map (resembling Revised the most) but without NO’s or tech….  If Anniversary did not exist, Spring 42 would probably be my favorite.

      Yes, but then you wouldnt have the Italians.
