    • RE: Submarine surprise attack

@krieghund said in Submarine surprise attack:

A unit that takes a hit from a Surprise Strike is removed immediately and does not return fire.  The only exceptions are a battleship which is taking its first hit (as it not destroyed) and a sub which also gets a Surprise Strike (as it is firing at the same time).

      And an Aircraft Carrier, too.

    • RE: Calling off landings

@krieghund If during the Amphib Assault ‘sea battle’ the defending forces kill all the attacking warships and only the defender is still present, can the loaded transports retreat or do they become casualties?

    • RE: More for Amphib Assaults, Pac 40

@marshmallowofwar ok, and the US Transport with the ANZACs; yes did follow those rules and sequence. So, the US transport can go into the ‘empty’ SZ off the Carolina Islands during its US non-combat even though the islands have an air base and enemy fighters stationed there? (during the ANZAC phase, they moved in cruisers and fighters into the SZ for the Amphib landing and won.)

    • More for Amphib Assaults, Pac 40

AA 1940, Pacific: 1. If an US amphib assault of destroyer and 2 loaded transports hit the Carolina Islands, and the defender scrambles 3 fighters and kills the destroyer, can the transports retreat to a friendly adjacent sea zone (I know can’t unload) or are they killed?
      2. If a US transport picks up 2 ANZAC infantry, can they goto an enemy island during non-combat phase? There are no enemy ships there but could scramble enemy fighters. During the ANZAC turn, they send in ANZAC combat ships and planes to support the landing of their troops from the US transports. Ok?

    • One more time.....

So, if the defending player scrambles 3 fighters and sinks the attacking single destroyer… then all that is left are the 2 transports loaded. At that time, can the transports retreat or are they sunk?

    • RE: US 30 IPC bonus question

@mikemikemike Ok, thanks for all the good information. Here is a wrinkle: IF Japan declares war on UK/ANZAC, and the USA gets an immediate 30 point IPC ‘bonus’ at the very start of the next turn… what happens if the USA does NOT declare war on Japan the next turn or several turns afterwards and Japan likewise does not declare war on the USA… does the USA stay at the pre-war, non-bonus IPC levels? Even after they get the 30 point immediate bonus…

    • RE: US 30 IPC bonus question

@marshmallowofwar hi and thanks. so for Pacific game only: the USA gets an immediate 30 points of IPC to spend on that phase 1 build of the first turn after Japan declares war Only on UK/ANZAC… but the factory is only Minor- so, can’t put more than 3 on until converted to Major after USA declares war on Japan in its combat phase?

    • RE: US 30 IPC bonus question

@panther Hi, sorry I am a bit slow on this topic for 1940 Pacific only version: So, if on Turn 2 Japan declares war on ONLY Uk/ANZAC- does the USA immediately get 30 extra more IPCs to purchase for their Turn 2?

    • Kamikaze Zone, Aircraft carrier movements

TDay Game 1940 Pacific, Iwo Jima is attacked by US successfully. For NCM, US sends in its 2 carriers to have its surviving fighters land. But, Japan can’t use its remaining Kamikaze since it is a Non-combat move? Can US move the carriers like that? Thx. Mike in NH.

    • A Nonsensical Retreat Rule?

I picked up the Subject Title from an old post on the Global:  Recent game of AA 1940 Europe, the German infantry forces in Greater Southern German and only 1 German infantry from Romania attack Yugoslavia on Turn 1.  The attack fails (but weakens Yugo enough for the Italians to move in and take the IC Points next turn) and ALL German forces ‘retreat’ to Romania.  Pretty neat trick, huh?                            .
The rule should be they must retreat from the country which they originated but that is not the case.

    • Pre-war American Factory 3 or 10?

Is the factory on the US West Coast a ‘minor’ one (3) which is magically made a ‘major’ (10) after war is declared?  I always had it a major (10) factory from the start of the game.  thx

    • RE: Unprovoked vs Provoked DoW

to get the US special 30 point bonus, Japan has to physically ‘act’ [first] in a manner that is the direct cause of war…. I think

What if after a Japan attack on UK/ANZAC, the US does not declare war on Japan?  But, waits a turn or two to do so,…

    • RE: Dutch Territories & +30 rule

Hi, wait… is this what we are saying?

for the special, one time only, 30 IPC US Bonus:  that is only given when Japan surprise-attacks US directly, right?

That means a Japan attack on Dutch Territory, UK or ANZAC would not trigger the 30 IPC Special Bonus (it would allow US to declare war on Japan however, with standard NOs)

      thx
