That’s good for you. My question to you is simple: are you asking a question of some sort or are you just giving us your take on 1942, Second Ed?

@dilton You’re right about the Axis needing to take Morocco before you can take it back, sorry about that. I still think the overall point (there are other options besides Gibraltar for your bases) stands, though.

Also, HBG has a full-up list of everything that you need to play 1936v3, as a three-page pdf file linked from their website:
https://www.historicalboardgaming.com/assets/images/HBG/GW1936v3/Accessories/Needed Units for Global War 36V31.pdf
That should let you know exactly what all you need to get started with 1936 v3.

The general plan for the A&A franchise, as held by Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast/Avalon Hill, is to produce more Axis & Allies games after A&A&Zombies. Exactly what that will entail has not been shared with us, but more A&A is supposed to be on the way. In the last couple years, we’ve seen about one release a year (A&A Anniversary reprint in 2017, A&A&Z in 2018). If that keeps up, we’ll have another new A&A game in about 11 months. Whether that will actually happen remains to be seen.
For more on this topic, here are a couple articles on A&A&Z and possible future plans, from the front face of the website:
Axis & Allies and Zombies Questions Answered

Q&A with Axis & Allies & Zombies Game Designer, Scott Van Essen Part 1
https://www.axisandallies.org/p/qa-axis-allies-zombies-game-designer-scott-van-essen-part-1/
We are still waiting on part 2.
And if that’s not enough, Historical Board Gaming (http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/), the Gold-level sponsor for this website, is starting to produce their own take on A&A through the years. They started with the mid-1930s and are looking to produce a series that spans from the 1860s to the 2050s.
So, yes, there’s still some fight left in A&A yet…

@barnee said in Can Transport prevent shore bombardment:
@Panther can you target the transport with one ship and allow the others to bombard ?
That you can’t do. IF you have a naval fight, you must use ALL combat ships present in that fight. This holds true even if you attempt to attack the transport with one fighter instead.
Mind you, that transport will need to get out of that sea zone on that player’s turn if it wants to stay above water.

As of today (2021 0207), HBG is selling full copies of their Amerika game for $49.95. That is more than 1/2 off the retail price of $119.95. The pieces are in the second edition colors, the rest of the game is the same.
(First Edition Colors: Germans in Grey, Japan in Burnt Orange, Allies in OD Green. Second Edition Colors: Germans in Black, Japan in Yellow Gold, Allies in UK Tan.)

HBG sells a set of their markers just for that purpose: BASE SET OF MARKERS FOR GW1936V3
https://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Base-set-of-Markers-for-GW1936v3_p_3700.html
They want $59.95, plus shipping, for their set. They claim it would cost $70.20, plus shipping, to buy the same markers by themselves.

@TALLAKGUY You missed me by about 17 years … I was stationed at Fort Wainwright from '01 to '03, played A&A when I could then as well.

@koala I agree with @AndrewAAGamer, there’s nothing in the rules that prevents you from doing this. Just leave the French infantry on the boat and you’ll be fine.

While researching something else I ran across the Xeno Games home page (http://www.xenogames.ca/) and noticed a new announcement:
Feb 18, 2021: That day has finally come. Xeno Games
is now sold out of everything and discontinuing
operations. A fond farewell to this wonderful journey
that began 19 years ago, when I purchased the
remaining stock and games of Xeno from Frank Zenau.
It was a pleasure to be involved with the World at
War as its publisher during its remaining lifetime.
It was a pleasure to interact with all the wonderful
people in the wargaming community. A fond farewell
to Xeno, the World at War, and to you all. This site
will be closed down soon. Regards and best wishes!
What this means for fans of Xeno Games, including The World at War, remains to be seen.

I feel like you’re on the wrong thread.
@SuperbattleshipYamato No, I rather suspect he’s just where he wants to be. He apparently thinks he would be of more use helping to playtest this “A&A meets G.I. Joe” game than the A&A North Africa game he is currently playtesting.
I don’t know if that’s true, but a man is always entitled to his own opinion.

@Rcpomeroy In the thread Fairbanks AK Way Up North, fellow A&A player Bolasgod lets everyone know that he’s from Anchorage. Perhaps you should let him and TallAKGuy in Fairbanks know you’re around.

@Xnuecguy2000 said in British bombing of Berlin:
Ok thank you so much. I still wish I could bomb Berlin, but I guess I can’t. It is a bit frustrating since in the real war British bombers were able to reach and bomb Berlin.
In the real war, the British had long-range bombers. Nothing stopping you from doing the same research…

@Midnight_Reaper China would let them put period accurate flags. They are available from Nightingale games.
Then please explain to me how Wizards of the Coast gets period-accurate Republic of China control markers out of the People’s Republic of China? I call shenanigans.

I think that numbers 5 and 6, from the numbered list, work best as a title for the Milton Bradley edition.
That said, I would keep the Nova Games edition out of the description of the Milton Bradley edition. The Nova Games edition had many differences from the Milton Bradley edition (different map, combat rules, and turn structure, just off the top of my head) and conflating them helps no one.

I just started playing Axis and allies 1940 with 6 peoples . Where do I start implementing the more complicated rules of the game and house rules after we got the basics down like phases/ fighting units
I would avoid making any house rules until your group is familiar with the base game and how it plays.
I agree. First, learn how to play. The better players will likely win, no matter their side. Game unbalance does not become a factor until all players are at the same level of play.
Plus, it’s important to know the basics before moving on to more complicated rules.
