    • RE: Custom 3D Miniatures: Major & Minor Industrial Complexes, Recruitment Center, Airbase, and Naval Base

Oh, the new, 4 smokestack major IC looks sweet. And I like that minor IC as well. Now, all you need is to make a Recruitment Center, and you’ll be all set.

Recruitment Centers are a new type of IC, that came in with A&A&Zombies. Recruitment Centers cost 10 IPCs and you can place only infantry there, as many infantry as the value of the territory. Other than that, they act just the same as normal ICs - build, damage, repair, built in AAA, all the same.

As for what to mark them, I would either go with crossed rifles or a barracks of some kind. Something like the image below:
      Crossed Garand rifles

      That’s my 2 IPCs,

    • RE: Selling advice.

If you are dead set on never playing it, my suggestion would be to offer it on the marketplace sub-forum here for cost of shipping (free for whoever wants to pay the shipping cost). That way someone looking to get one cheap will be helped out and you’ll know the person who gets it wanted it.

But donating to Habitat for Humanity is not a bad idea either.

@dilton You’re right about the Axis needing to take Morocco before you can take it back, sorry about that. I still think the overall point (there are other options besides Gibraltar for your bases) stands, though.

    • HBG Quietly Announces Plans to Re-Release Amerika, Pieces in New Colors

HBG recently announced a re-print of their game Amerika. The difference between the first print and the newly-announced second print will be the color of the pieces. To quote HBG: “… new Amerika Game with [T]an Allies, Black Germans, and Yellow-Gold Japanese” (Source)

What I elided out of that quote is that if you have a copy of Amerika and just want the new pieces, HBG will accommodate you, but only for a short while. The full quote goes: “Pre-Orders on Tan Amerika Allies Sets will be available for 4 weeks only (Ends July 16), after that they will only be in the new Amerika Game with [T]an Allies, Black Germans, and Yellow-Gold Japanese.”

So, making the Allies Set in in Tan allows one to get HBG Centurion tanks and Meteor Jet fighters in British Tan. But only for the next 2 to 3 weeks. (Recently, HBG announced that their French Set would be available for pre-orders in a “light blue” or “Free French” color until the 5th of June. Only pre-orders were cancelled before then, and if you were too slow, you missed out.) So, if this sounds like something you would like to have, you will want to move sooner rather than later.

One thing to point out, these Pre-Orders on Tan Amerika Allies Sets include not only the Allies Set pieces from base game pieces but also the Allies Set pieces from the Amerika Expansion Set “Bring in the Heavies”. Well worth it if you already have Amerika and the “Bring in the Heavies” expansion and you just want the new pieces, worth it if you already have Amerika and you just want the new pieces, and also worth-while if you just want to equip your late-war British in a game of Axis & Allies or Global War '36 or '39 with some awesome new tanks, mechs, self-propelled guns, jet fighters, and jet bombers.

For the visually-inclined, a picture of some of the pieces is available here:
thumbnail picture of tan Allies pieces from the re-release of HBG;s Amerika game
      Source

For those that want to know what all you get, here is a listing of what you are pre-ordering for when you put down your $38 ($32 for the pre-order, $6 shipping in the US):

Unit / (US Green Pieces) / (British Tan Pre-Order Pieces)
      Base Game
      B-48 Jet Bomber / (6) / (4)
      Centurion Medium Tank / (10) / (4)
      M19 SP AA Gun / (8) / (6)
      M43 SP Artillery / (10) / (6)
      M75 Mechanized Inf. / (8) / (4)
      Meteor Jet Fighter / (10) / (4)
      Rangers (Elite Infantry) / (20) / (12)
      T-29 Heavy Tank / (8) / (4)

      Bring in the Heavies Expansion
      B-47 Jet Bomber / (5) / (4)
      M6 Heavy/Medium Tank / (5) / (4)
      M36 Tank Destroyer / (5) / (4)
      P-59 Jet Fighter / (5) / (4)
      T-28 Heavy/Super Heavy Tank / (5) / (4)

And if you’re ready to pre-order some awesome Brit pieces, HBG is standing by: http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/Battle-Pieces--Amerika-Set-Tan-Pre-Order_p_3425.html

@thrasher1 Looks like I forgot to ask. Given that they can’t find the Zombies setup for 1942 SE, I doubt they have a copy of this.

It was sloppy of them to miss the truncated setup for Zombies '42. It is even sloppier of them to not correct it. If people ask on BGG about this, I tell them to use the setup for standard 1942, SE, and then only modify it when the setup for Zombie '42 differs. That seems to work.

This game had a dual purpose - […] kick ass pieces for A&A nerds.

To be honest, that is one of the great things about the A&A '41 game: New Sculpts! Not just new, but also hole-filling: a UK Transport, a Russian Carrier, heavy tanks for allies and axis, a Japanese Carrier that actually did something war, a US Fighter that isn’t space-alien-shaped, Battlecruisers for allies and axis.

It’s just a shame that you get so few of them…

@Panther can you target the transport with one ship and allow the others to bombard ?

That you can’t do. IF you have a naval fight, you must use ALL combat ships present in that fight. This holds true even if you attempt to attack the transport with one fighter instead.

Mind you, that transport will need to get out of that sea zone on that player’s turn if it wants to stay above water.

If units will not be engaged in combat after the end of combat movement, than those units are not allowed to move. Only movements that result in combat are allowed to occur during combat movement.

If you want to move a unit without combat, then you can move that unit during non-combat movement, after the combat phase is done.

      {snip}

Question: I am not from US so please explain to me… why Civil War is so much ‘popular’ then the American Revolution.

I can’t tell you why it’s so dominate in the U.S. market. I can tell you why I’d rather see a new U.S. Civil War game (Civ War) than a new U.S. Revolutionary War game (Rev War).

      1. The U.S. Civil War was the Second Revolutionary War. It was the southern (slave) states telling the northern (free) states that slaves would be freed over their dead bodies. Of which the Union/Federal/Northern Army obliged.
      2. More to do in a Civ War game. Everything there might be in a Rev War game would also be in a Civ War game, plus you could have merchant raiding, technology trees, cross-border raids, etc.
      3. The Civ War was, in some ways, the first modern war. Between the steam ship, rifles instead of muskets, trains, and telegraphs, the Civ War was more violent and faster moving than the Rev War.

Is that what everybody who prefers the Civ War to the Rev War thinks? Heck if I know. I can speak for myself alone.

@robert-t said in Custom 3D Miniatures: Major & Minor Industrial Complexes, Recruitment Center, Airbase, and Naval Base:

A question on recruitment centres. Are people house ruling them into all A&A games?

If so, what cost do you put them at and how may infantry can you place in one?

Thanks and the models look great.

Try these rules for house ruling Recruitment Centers into your other A&A games.

      Standard rules for Recruitment Centers:
Recruitment Centers are a new type of IC, that came in with A&A&Zombies. Recruitment Centers cost 10 IPCs and you can place only infantry there, as many infantry as the value of the territory. Other than that, they act just the same as normal ICs - build, damage, repair, built in AAA, all the same. You can upgrade from a Recruitment Center to an IC for the cost of 8 IPCs. Only undamaged Recruitment Centers can upgrade (repair cost can be paid at the same time as upgrade costs).

The above rules work with games that only have one type of IC. For the 1940s games (Europe, Pacific, and Global 1940), I would do this:

      Recruitment Center:
Has same rules as minor factory, except cost is 10 IPCs and you can place up to 3 infantry, and only infantry units. Can upgrade to a full minor factory for the cost of 5 IPCs. Only undamaged Recruitment Centers can upgrade (repair cost can be paid at the same time as upgrade costs).

      That should about cover it.

@midnight_reaper I prefer a space game of alien empires.

What setting you had in mind?

Something like “Masters of Orion (I’m thinking more like the original computer game rather then the later board game.)” or “Twilight Imperium (which dropped its 4th edition a few years ago.)”. In short, let’s make aliens ALIEN. Do something wildly different from WW2 or WW3 or Humans vs. Martians vs. Venusians.

Use ground unit rules and amphibious attack rules from A&A for landing troops, attacking space stations, and dirt-side action. Use naval unit rules and associated amphibious attack rules from A&A for fleet-to-fleet combat and for getting troops where they need to be. Use air unit rules from A&A for fast-striking raiders and fleet defenders. Use the initiative system from Shogun (Yes, the linked game says Ikusa. The name got changed for a reprint in 2011) for suspense - who knows who will go first in the next round? Use the cities and roads building from Conquest of the Empire to build stations and wormholes, to support the fleet and move it around more quickly.

      Something like that, I suppose.
