    • RE: Rules game .pdf in french

      Hello Pascal,

As much as I love it here, your request sounds like something that BGG (BoardGameGeek) would handle better. And indeed, I think I’ve found what you are looking for. In the file subsection of the BGG page for A&A Europe 1940 is a French translation of the second edition rules. As I don’t speak French, I can’t confirm that the translation is accurate. Judging by the pictures, it looks mostly accurate (the translator took some liberties with the Major and minor Industrial Complexes, but that shouldn’t be too hard to figure out). I hope that helps anyways.

Here something you ain’t got, nor does hardly anybody else either!!!

I have that. It’s not all that hard to get, if you ask me.

Unless @Nolimit knows something I don’t, that never came in a box. It was just a set of rules for an expansion of A&A Europe that split the Axis from just Germany into having both Germany and Italy as playable powers.

Take a copy of A&A Europe, add troops for the Italian player, add the rules from the game designers in Italy, and you have this.

It’s not commonly found because it’s not commonly known about.

    • RE: G40 rules for "away from table" gaming (in an office etc.)

Another option for this kind of asynchronous play is to have each player establish an OoL, or an Order of Loss.

An OoL would work something like this: Ground: AAA - Inf - Mech Inf - Arty - Tank - Strat Bomber - Tac Bomber - Fighter; Naval: Capital Ship first hit (a non-sinking hit on a Battleship or a Carrier) - Submarine - Destroyer - Tac Bomber - Cruiser - Fighter - wounded Carrier - wounded Battleship.

With an OoL, you have a rough guide as to how that player wants to take handle taking casualties. And by following that OoL, you can take defensive hits off for the defender with confidence that the defensive player really would like to lose something expensive but not entirely useful over something that is cheaper but also a better defender.

      @Imperious-Leader said in [1942.2] Is there a 1940 setup for 1942 game?:

Make one, just research it and make sure its balanced and gives players options. For example make sure nobody loses a critical unit to start the game.

And if they wants to play 1942 with a 1940 start date, but don’t have the skills and knowledge to make one for themselves, what the heck are they supposed to do? Telling a person with a broken car that they should just fix it themselves doesn’t help a non-mechanic any.

That said, I do know about the work someone else put into making a variant for 1942, Second Edition, that starts in 1939. I have no idea if it’s balanced or not but I rather think it’s not. I say this because this variant creator is more inclined for historical accuracy than play balance. All that said, you can find this variant on BGG: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1586459/axis-and-allies-1942-second-edition-1939-variant-s

I hope this helps. If you find it unbalanced, I would first try giving the weaker side to the stronger player. Handicapping, a la having faster runners were weighted shoes in a race.

    • RE: [1942.2] Is there a 1940 setup for 1942 game?

With this setup, Japan starts with 11. China starts with 8, and France (1939, remember) starts with 13, which includes 2 for Indo-China. Japan is expected to prey on China and France to build up.

While this might feel anemic for those used to 1940, it just might be roughly accurate in the combined circumstances of the reduced total income of 1942 and an earlier starting date reducing the incomes of both Germany and Japan.

The opportunity to repeat Germany and Japan’s wild successes in 1940 and 1941 is there, can you seize it?

How about we have the Empire ships serve as the United Kingdom player’s transport ship class?

How making a seperate British transport ship piece?

There is a separate British transport. You get 12 in every copy of A&A 1941. Mind you, only 4 are in British tan, the rest are 4 in US OD green and 4 in Soviet Maroon.

The allied transport ship in A&A 1941 is based off of Canada’s “Fort Ships”, which were a class of 198 ships made in Canadian shipyards during the war. They were essentially the Canadian answer to the US’s Liberty ships. All of the Forts were for use by the United Kingdom, those built for Canadian use were named the Park ships.

All that said, WotC has provided separate, Commonwealth-origin, British transports. They just put them in a different game.

      -Midnight_Reaper

Well, why aren’t they in Global 1940, then? I think that would be nice!

Because they were trying to figure a way to sell copies of A&A 1941 to the old guard and stumbled on the plan of selling pieces to fill gaps in the piece collection of the 1940s games. As for what, exactly, you get in a copy of A&A 1941, I turn to this website’s archives for a preview of what’s inside 1941: https://www.axisandallies.org/p/axis-allies-1941-preview-unit-details-and-abilities/

      I hope that helps.

    • RE: [Global 1940] Destroyer and Destroyer Escorts

I happen to have that book right next to my computer. I’ll give you the short version - if you want the long version, just ask.

      Unit - Attack - Defense - Move - Cost
      Cruiser - 3 - 3 - 2 - 15/13 (apparently they were originally 15 IPCs, reduced to 13 IPCs in a later printing) - Can Coastal Bombard
      Destroyer - 2 - 2 - 2 - 8 - special sub patrol rules
      Escort - 1 - 3 - 2 - 8 - special convoy/transport defense and sub patrol rules, can be transferred from 1 nation’s control to another
German Subs (U-boats) subs cost 6 IPCs for Germany only, everybody else pays 8 IPCs
Battleships - 2 hits to kill
Carriers - 2 hits to kill

    • RE: A&A State of the Union?

The general plan for the A&A franchise, as held by Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast/Avalon Hill, is to produce more Axis & Allies games after A&A&Zombies. Exactly what that will entail has not been shared with us, but more A&A is supposed to be on the way. In the last couple years, we’ve seen about one release a year (A&A Anniversary reprint in 2017, A&A&Z in 2018). If that keeps up, we’ll have another new A&A game in about 11 months. Whether that will actually happen remains to be seen.

For more on this topic, here are a couple articles on A&A&Z and possible future plans, from the front face of the website:

Axis & Allies and Zombies Questions Answered
      https://www.axisandallies.org/p/axis-allies-zombies-questions-answered/

      https://www.axisandallies.org/p/qa-axis-allies-zombies-game-designer-scott-van-essen-part-1/

We are still waiting on part 2.

And if that’s not enough, Historical Board Gaming (http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/), the Gold-level sponsor for this website, is starting to produce their own take on A&A through the years. They started with the mid-1930s and are looking to produce a series that spans from the 1860s to the 2050s.

So, yes, there’s still some fight left in A&A yet…

    • RE: America First?

It’s not the same game at all, but I think that when playing A&A 1941, that taking Washington is easier than taking London as the second capital for the Axis win. Like taking Moscow, taking Washington is something both Germany and Japan can work together on. Attacking London is hard work, and it can be very difficult to get sufficient Japanese forces in place to help.

But yes, in GW 36, that doesn’t sound like a winning strategy to me.

      @Panzerboy0191

The Smorey Swamp, online home for GenCon A&A tournament master Greg Smorey, has official GenCon A&A tournament rules for the following Axis & Allies games: Milton Bradley (or Classic); Anniversary; 1942, Second Ed; Global 1940, Second Ed; 1914; and Zombies.

You can find your way to his site, but I’ll point you to his rules and tournament rules page as well.

I hope you find what you’re looking for there.

There are play by email games, but forum play has mostly driven PBEM to the fringes of active play. There’s not a lot of difference between them, but what differences there are make those knowledgeable in both style tend to prefer forum play.

I think that numbers 5 and 6, from the numbered list, work best as a title for the Milton Bradley edition.

That said, I would keep the Nova Games edition out of the description of the Milton Bradley edition. The Nova Games edition had many differences from the Milton Bradley edition (different map, combat rules, and turn structure, just off the top of my head) and conflating them helps no one.
