    • RE: Global 1940 is the best Axis & Allies game

      @Cow:

The Europe half sucks for me, the skirmishes only occur between Italy and UK, the rest is a big stack moving toward Russia, maybe a few infantry blockers here n there to fight, but it is a one way movement for the most part which is stupid.

Nobody ever came with a stacking rule and/or some kind of enlistment track limiting infantry and tanks that can be built (taking into account relative labor force of each country)? Those two simple house rules could improve the strategic feeling and flow of the game.

    • RE: Air units can participate in sea battle or coastal attack: I don't get it

      Yes, sort of.

I understand I wasn’t missing something somewhere. As the Air units movement rule is already clear enough, there was no need to add the part about the player having to declare if an air unit participates in the territory battle or the sea battle.

      Thanks for your reply!

    • Air units can participate in sea battle or coastal attack: I don't get it

      Hi all,

According to the air units general movement rules, air units move from space to space, whether the space is a territory, an island or a sea space, paying one 1 MP for each crossed boundary. So, an air unit is either over land or over sea. (Well, right?) But the rule for air units in the amphibious assaults section states that “each attacking air unit can participate in the sea battle or the attack on the coastal territory; it can’t do both. The attacking player must declare witch air units are involved in each part of the attack […]”. How is this possible? It suggests that air units can be over a boundary, between a coastal territory and a sea. I don’t get it.

      Thanks,

      Hi,

Yes, I see how uDOW gives UK and Anzac some mean to avoid being in a difficult situation too early in the game!

    • RE: Blocking strategy when not at war

      Hi!

Yes, I see. But I understand this strategy has its limits. For example, a Japan player could move an invasion fleet in SZ45 or 46 and hit Northern territory or Queensland on turn 3, even if there is an ally fleet in one of the zone. I’m not sure this would be a winning strategy but still, one can’t really “block” a fleet when not at war. (I thought I was missing something in the rules. I don’t. Good!  :-) )

      Cheers,

    • Blocking strategy when not at war

      Hi all,

(Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, but I didn’t find it.)

I read in various messages that players could block the advance of an enemy navy. For instance:

“The US can move blockers to sea zones 8 and 9, keeping Japan from taking Western Canada before turn 3.”

“I would probably try to use ANZAC to block Hawaii.”

“UK will have to decide between guarding Canada or covering London. It would be extremely difficult for the US & UK to have blockers out to prevent every approach to Canada.”

I understand this can be done when powers are at war against each other. But how is blocking possible when they’re not, as the rule states “A power’s ships do not block naval movements of other powers with which it is not at war, nor are they blocked by them. They can occupy the same sea zone”?

      Thanks,
