    • Sub/Amphibious Assault Question

First off, I appreciate y’alls help as I master the finer points of this great game, and I apologize if this has been asked, couldn’t find a thread on it.

So ANZAC has an artillery in Malaya and a transport and sub in the surrounding sea zone. Japan does an amphibious assault with a battleship, cruiser and a transport (no destroyer) with an infantry and artillery. I can choose to fight or submerge the sub, from what I understand in the rule book.
      1. if i submerge the sub can Japan offload and take Malaya (obviously the transport is destroyed in this case)? We played that Japan can do this, they ended up taking Malaya. That sub doesn’t have to be cleared, right?
      2. no support shots from the battleship and cruiser right cause fighting the transport is combat (this is how we played)
      3. the sub is alive and remains in the same sea zone as the Japanese ships and can still conduct convoy disruptions at the collect income phase of the Japanese turn (we played that the sub could).

Did we err at all? Thanks

    • Combat/noncombat question

Naval units are like tanks in that they can’t move after participating in combat right? Say the German battleship and some planes, first move of the game, goes out and hits those three British ships above Scotland. That’s two movement points to get there, but because it participated in combat it can’t move back one (it could move three originally, coming from W. Germany’s naval base). It is effectively stuck off the coast of Scotland, right?

Thanks for clarifying, I’m pretty sure I know the answer but my opponent plays differently…

    • RE: Capital liberation question

Yes I was very hesitant to liberate it, but in this case Germany and Russia were at a standstill, both trading back the Polish territories and the Soviets making the occasional excursion into Romania/Balkans. In this particular game Germany was able to take France right back, but at the expense of a giving up troops against the Soviets. It lost more in units than the 17 IPCs it gained from taking it. The Soviets captured Berlin two turns later with Paris still under German control. As the US had Japan blockaded, convoyed and strategic bombed, the game was over.

    • Capital liberation question

      Hi,

If a capital is liberated by an ally, it doesn’t collect income until the end of its next turn right? so if in the same round of play britain liberates france from germany, france doesn’t immediately collect its income.  if directly after that italy retakes france, italy doesn’t take france’s ipcs (cause they don’t have any). is this interpretation correct? many thanks

    • RE: Kamikaze question

Germany was - he had just taken over Russia and was poised to run wild through the rest of the Russian territories, the Middle East and into China. I sent tanks from India in waves and was able to hold him at bay, luckily I had reduced Italy to its original territories as well. I still haven’t gotten Japan :) but he only has four infantry left…been strategic bombing the hell out of him with US bombers and an ambitious ANZAC. Germany’s strong but I’ve done a good job of hitting Normandy and Belgium and have a US minor in Norway. I believe the game’s about over…

Kamikazes can hit transports? I thought I read they only hit capital ships, at least in the second editions.

    • RE: Kamikaze question

Thanks. The funny part is when we had our gigantic Japanese-American naval clash my opponent forgot to use them and remembered halfway through the battle. Of course I wouldn’t let him use them then. Cheers.

    • Kamikaze question

As the US I have defeated the Japanese navy and have four battleships and two cruisers in the seazone surrounding Japan, with some transports on the way to invade. If I want to hit Japan with an amphibious assault, am I correct in understanding that he can play one kamikaze token (he has all six still) on a sea unit, and no matter what that cancels out all support shots? In other words, if he plays one at a time I will have to wait six rounds til I can bombard?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    • Combined arms question

If I take a tac bomber and fighter and attack an infantry and miss, and the infantry hits and I select the fighter as a casualty, does the tac bomber then fire at a 3 instead of a 4 throughout the rest of the battle? Many thanks

    • RE: 1ED and 2ED compatable game boards?

I was in the same exact dilemma, I finally got AAP40 right before the news that there would be reprints and just got AAE40 2nd the other day. They pry won’t like me advertising this but I called WofC and they are sending me the AAAs from Pac 2nd edition at no charge when I explained my situation.
