    • RE: What other editions do you play?

      I also started out on Revised and played it exclusively for a while. Now I have Pacific and Europe 1940 which, I think it’s safe to say, blow Revised out of the water. The scale of the games, especially when combined, is enormous, as Calvin pointed out. My experience with them, and I imagine the majority of players,has been a lot better than Revised (which isn’t to say anything negative about the latter, that’s just how good the 40’s are!) I suggest you head over to the other forums and search for a game that looks interesting to you. There are theater specific games, Guadalcanal, D-Day, and Battle of the Bulge, but I don’t have any experience with those.

      In short, I recommend Europe and Pacific 1940. They’re pretty expensive, but I’d say they’re definitely the right way to go if you want to expand into A and A.

    • RE: Are Yugolsavia, and Greece even worth invading?

      We had a game on Thursday where Yugo was ignored until the Russians blitzed into it and suddenly had a sizeable stack of troops in the heart of German territory. I think that both are worth invading right off the bat if Germany isn’t doing a very early attack on Russia.

      @maverick_76:

      Well I played my first game last night and the Brits took Greece on their first turn. I took it back but I had to kill 6 infantry (2 that landed off transport+ 4 from Greece). So I would say for Greece, yes, that should probably be occupied, plus Italy gets a bonus from it so it helps everyone out, axis at least….

      Or is it better to leave Greece and let the Brits have it? It’s easier for Germany to steamroll any British troops on the continent than it is for Italy to kill them in Egypt.

    • RE: Larry's NEW ALPHA+1 SETUP

      Hey everyone
      I haven’t been very active here since the summer (4 AP’s + soccer + swimming + band) so I haven’t been able to follow all this very closely. Do we think this is the final version, as Q suggested? Has anyone tried it extensively? Better than OOB and whatever other versions exist? Thanks in advance!

    • RE: Get a French Control marker on the board by F2!

      I realize that Eire is useless. The irony is the fact that the easiest, and perhaps the most realistic (as in won’t attack a true neutral) way for France to capture a territory is for it to capture something that doesn’t matter, underscoring the dismal state of France in general.

    • Get a French Control marker on the board by F2!

      My estimate is that this is the only possible way for France to actually control an originally non-French territory. Move UK infantry to Scotland F1 and take over Pro-Allied Eire F2!

      The new rules are for PACIFIC40, not Europe…

      This is in the Global forum, which is neither Pacific or Europe…

      Still the setup says that.

      The setup also says to put “artilley” in Western US and Japan… so what have you been doing about that? :-D

      @calvinhobbesliker:

      @McMan:

      Expansion of Rome between 1 and 3
      Foundation and expansion of Christianity between 2 and 3
      Fall of Constantinople  :cry: and Ottoman expansion somewhere between 3 and 5
      Colonial Empires between 5 and 6 I suppose
      Beginning of the Soviet Union simultaneously with 5
      The Cold War started basically after the end of WWII, so there won’t be much in between those two

      How did Soviet Union start same time as 30 yrs war?

      My mistake I meant WWI. Good catch.

    • RE: Cruisers and tac bombers new abilities

      @The:

      Really man? you call them having almost as much as the three largest world powers acceptable when they should barely have more than germany? What is this?

      Keep in mind that it’s Japan vs. the US, India, ANZAC, China, and 18 Russian infantry. Together, they outearn Japan by nearly 100 IPC’s in Global. Whereas Germany can easily increase its income by steamrolling France and then turning on an unprepared Russia, Japan has no easy means of getting more money other than going for China, unless it does J1, and it has no allies in range to help out in the Pacific. It needs all the planes it can get! Although Pac isn’t balanced, I imagine Global will be, even with all those planes. Why is a ratio of units such a big deal if the game is balanced and fun (which I’m assuming it will be)? There are so many nitpicky details that aren’t exactly like the war was, but that’s why it’s a GAME. If it was exaclty like the war, the Allies would win every time  :-)

    • German IC's

      For the lucky few who have already played Europe, has Germany ever bought any new IC’s? There are certainly quite a few 2 and 3 IPC territories close to Russia where a factory could be useful, but is it worth Germany’s money to shell out the cash on IC’s instead of units? In the long run, a factory in Romania/Ukraine (if the Germans capture it) would allow Germany to invest in infantry instead of mechs to accompany the tanks which would be built in the west. A Finland minor IC could also be useful to threaten Leningrad, perhaps along with the remnants of a Sealion transport fleet. This sounds pretty good to me on paper/pixels, but does anyone with experience have any insight into the usefulness of new German IC’s?
