    • RE: Ouch first game played

This sounds WHOLE lot like my first couple of games. Japan would win by killing China, then storming India with her airforce and holding the DEI with her fleet. The U.S. would kind of hang around Hawaii in an attempt to “threaten” Japan with a couple of transports. Once we realized that the U.S. can crank out A WHOLE FLEET EVERY SINGLE TURN things became easier for the Allies. Scan the forums for the “conveyor belt” strategy. That’s what changed everything for me.

    • Bids

Will someone please explain a bid to me? Also, does I*N stand for Initial * Navy? Like, IJN = Initial Japanese Navy?

    • Transports

This situation popped up today. My friend had a transport with an infantry and an AA gun ready to attack the Philippines. The AA gun can’t perform combat, so does he just offload the infantry during the combat move then the AA gun during the noncombat? Just in general, does a transport have to offload all its units into one territory during either the combat or noncombat move? For instance, could a transport load two units, move one space for an amphibious assault, drop off one unit in the assault, then move one more space for noncombat and drop off the other unit in a friendly territory? Or, could it drop off each of its units in a separate territory if the seazone it was in was adjacent to both, for instance, sz 20, Kiangsi and Kwantung? Can a transport pick up a second unit after it dropped off its first one?

    • RE: Manchuria

I was under the impression that the combined game would have an alternate setup. Is that the case? If so, it still doesn’t see very practical for Japan.

    • Manchuria

This might be a completely bogus question, but what the hay is the strategic value of the AA in Manchuria? The only thing I can think of is that it might make the mighty Chinese think twice before doing a massive Inf/Art/Flying Tigers invasion :-P

    • RE: Bad Moves?

Has anyone tried moving the US’s initial fleet, augmented with some subs and DD’s to sz 6 right off the bat? I was thinking that that might be a good way to force Japan to divert a sizable chunk of its fleet, airforce, or both to take out the US fleet or risk losing up to 11 IPC’s in convoy raids. At the same time, the US would be cranking out another fleet with its geared up economy. This might be a good way to take some of the initial pressure off the Brits and ANZAC, but I haven’t actually had a chance to try it so…

Any thoughts on this “bad move?”

    • Bad Moves?

After reading up the forums, I have yet another round of questions about obtaining and Allied victory. Having only played three games, these are only my thoughts, but any input would be helpful. First, although the majority now feel that the game is balanced, I find it hard to imagine Japan’s downfall. The causes for this: Japan’s airforce, 10,000 planes strong, and the DEI. The DEI appear to me to be “swing territories.” They contain enough IPC’s either to give Japan almost a production advantage over the US, or to give the UK enough IPC’s to resist Japan. Either way, a quick victory for one side or the other is assured. However, with Japan’s airforce and massive fleet, they can take and hold the DEI fairly easily. Unless the Jap player is some kind of idiot, China and Britain will be smashed quickly, leaving Japan with only one victory city to go while outproducing the US and ANZAC. Some players have said that to defeat Japan, the Allies need to make what appear to be “bad moves” in order to spread Japan out. What does this kind of strategy look like? Also, what’s this talk of games being 20-25 turns long? My games usually last no more than 5… will that begin to change as my friends and I get more experienced?

    • RE: Getting extra pieces?

Most of what I’ve seen on here has been complaints about the tac bomber shortage and WotC’s replys to complaint emails, but I’ve seen little about anything else. What about the board and the rulebook? Those mistakes are HUGE  :-o! I feel like it’s kind of unreasonable to ask them to send me a whole new map, and they probably don’t even have correct ones printed, but this is completely ridiculous. Does anyone know how they plan to address such blatant carelessness besides saying sorry and telling us to improvise?

    • RE: Kamakaze

So this means that if an Allied power moves a fleet into a valid kamikaze sz during their combat move in an attempt to attack a Japanese fleet, the Japanese, without any planes, simply declare a kamikaze attack and say which Allied ships they want to attack. Then they roll seperately for each Allied ship they chose on a two or less. If they score any hits, the Allied ship is destroyed without any firing (unless it’s a capital ship) and then general combat occurs. Each die that was rolled by the Japanese player counts as one of their six kamikaze attacks, correct?

    • Lots of Questions

      Hey everybody

I just got AAP40 for Christmas, marking my second version of the game after Revised, and I have been spending a lot of time on these forums as a result. After scanning everything and finding out about misprints and rushed production of the game and all, I have a few questions. Where can I find a complete list of everything that was misprinted on the board and setup boxes? What email address do I need to use to contact WotC for a replacement of the battle strip? Where can I find a list of commonly used acronyms for stuff in the game? Randomly, what is the current consensus on the balance of the game? Earlier I read that Japan’s airforce was so overpowered that it was nearly impossible to beat them. Is that still considered the case?

Finally, I’d just like to say that this is such a cool group of gamers. I love the game and I love how much time people are investing in it to make it better for the rest of us who aren’t experts. This really feels like a community of people who respect each others ideas, which is why I feel so comfortable posting this as a newer player. Also, please let me know if I do anything that would be considered “socially unacceptable” on the forums.

      Kudos to all and thanks
      Sorry if I’m an idiot
