Except Japan not controlling those island is a huge annoyance but it isn’t a gunshot to the head for Japan.
I totally disagree in Japan being able to do well without the money islands.
If Anzac get and hold just 2 of them it makes a huge difference to their economy. At the same time Japan makes less money and will have a harder time keeping up with the US.
20 IPC for Japan is 1/3 of what they usually make midgame.
Its exactly the same as with mainland china. if you don’t bring down china’s income early, you have to spend much more resources breaking them, possibly not even able to do it.The money island are the back bone of the Japanese economy - especially midgame

If I do a J1 I don’t bring my carriers to Hawaii, I only bring just enough to wipe out the fleet. I place them at midway along with the rest of the fleet from sz6 and take midway with a transport. This way if US decides to attack I can land with my planes on midway. If US attack I will probably lose my carriers but replacing them is a lot cheaper when the planes are still there. Another upside is that ANZAC cannot reach them.
I never try to take Hawaii J2 since I think its a lost cause and Japan is never able to hold it without diverting all its resource to it

I have followed this thread with great enthusiasm, and think its great when somebody tries to re-think the way this game is played.
I would really like to give this strat a go my self.
Is the game plan in your initial post updated according to all the input other players have responded with? -

I actually played the strategy last Tuesday from what I could read in this thread and what I could remember for the video - and it failed miserably. Mostly I think because I failed with UK round 1 and tried to not do Taranto. Italy grew into a monster and by the time I did my landing in spain Italy helped defend Germany so effective that I coulden’t rescue Russia in time.
I will definitely try it again soon - and hopefully with success :-D

I realize that it has been a while since this topic has last been replied to, but I have a game coming up and thought it would be fun to use the Spanish beach head strategy.
I remember watching your video when you posted it at think it is a great way to execute the Spanish beach head. Sadly it seems your video can no longer be accessed on youtube. Could you please re-upload it?
