RE: New Players Have Much More to Learn Than When I Startedposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I have been playing since the only option was A&A classic. I agree that the best games to get people started with are Europe or Pacific or Anniversary. The 1940 games are just too much for a first timer, you don’t want them to drown in procedure so they won’t have any fun with the game.

Well that is a good price, I have seen up to $500 for the game. Once it went past $200 I decided that I would rather not purchase it, too much for the amount of enjoyment I would get out of it.

I’m not sweating it until I get the game in my hands and can see the angles in person. The first game that I play will be straight up and then we can see how well the game was playtested. From sources that were at GenCon they said it was a blast and the game played very well.

Maybe I got mine too, I need to check into it. Wow school stuff is so weird, here in Texas we usually get off in late May/Early June and go back late August/early September.

RE: Picture of US & Sea Zones together, West meets Eastposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Actually they really found the norse colonies ruins in america :)
It’s proven, but still, the official date of america discovery is 1492, because before that it was kept “secret”.That is news to me, I wonder if people are still looking for Chinese ruins because there have been theories that they made it to N. America before anyone else. I honestly don’t know why we still think 1492 was the discovering of the Americas, considering that people have been on this continent for thousands of years.

If I remember for Pacific 1940, it arrived like two days after the release date for me. So I’m guessing that Thursday or Friday is when we will probably get it.

RE: Sealion inevitable?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Again, if the opportunity presents itself I think that you have to try. Knocking out one major power will lead to a lot less headache and force the US to have to concentrate on liberating UK first, leaving Germany extra time to deal with Russia, and allowing Japan to use the India crush strategy. But from from what it looks like Germany will have to get very lucky in order for it to succeed.

Well from what I know we still are not sure what exactly happened to the colonies here in America, and we still aren’t 100% sure that they actually made it this far, they might have just gone to Greenland and that was that.

RE: Tanks too expensiveposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Absolutely. Even when tanks were 5 (AA50) I was sensing that fighters were too cheap. It’s interesting that in the original A&A, infantry were 3, tanks were 5 (defended at 2) fighters were 12, carriers were 18, bombers were 15, and battleships 24. And there was unlimitied production. So infantry was king.
Now with carriers down to 16 (from 18) and absorbing 2 hits (although defending on a 2 instead of a 3) and fighters down to 10, and mobility more important than ever, it’s interesting.
Fighters being able to attack all targets, only costing 2 more than a destroyer, granting bonuses to Tac bombers, providing by far the cheapest fleet defense, being able to attack and return to a safe landing place, getting 5 movement from airbases, being able to scramble, escorting and intercepting SBR’s, and what else am I forgetting? Oh, launching from aircraft carriers and being able to land where-ever those carriers can get to, often with THREE movement points…… Not to mention the jet fighters tech, the long range air tech…
Yes, I think we should be talking about how fighters are too cheap, not how tanks are too expensive!
But that is how it is in real life, whoever has the best airforce is the strongest military in the world. It was during this period that America became the kings of the skies and since then we have been the most dominant force on Earth. I feel the way the game is now that we are pretty close to a balanced purchasing system. I won’t even play the original A&A anymore because of how skewed it is towards infantry and subs.
