Well I still feel that you have to play out an entire game to see whether or not that breaks the gameplay, if it does not then why worry about it?

Awesome man, congrats on completing a game! I still haven’t even had the time to set up a game let alone play, its just too epic to do on a whim’s notice.

I’m probably going to have to set mine up in my garage on the ping pong table, as of right now that is the only thing large enough to hold the board except the floor.  :-o

I’m still really giddy about playing this game, I’ll just probably have to wait until the holidays to get some serious time to play though.

You know the other thing we could do is maybe make infantry that are not supported by a mechanical unit and are defending by themselves essentially, maybe make them defend at 1. That way a defender has to complement every infantry he purchases with a tank/fighter/artillery/etc. in order to get the defense bonus. I just think that would make it in all honesty a little more realistic when you are making your purchases for powers like Russia, they can’t just have super-stacks of infantry anymore unless they just want to defend at 1.

Not sure what historians you saw.  :? We definitely had modern equipment; our heaviest tank, the Char b1, had better armor and firepower than the Panzer II or III, the mainstream German tanks at that time. It was, however, a gas guzzler, and was pretty slow.

And like I said, the D.520 fighter was modern for its time, as was the LeO fighter, but they saw little action as it was too late to mass produce them. Same with the other modern equipment we had, including the Char b1 tank.

Not sure where you got the French charging the Germans with cavalry. Not a single reported incident of that happened. Same with Poland, where there’s a myth of them using horses against panzers.  :roll:

But ancient tactics? Well, 1918 tactics. Only a few like Charles de Gaulle advocated modern warfare. Actually, Heinz Guderian, one of the big developers of blitzkrieg, read de Gaulle’s book, compared it to his own, and found many similarities. So yes, the French High Command was still thinking 1918; the Germans were thinking 1940.

However, in comparison to the Army, the Navy was very well trained and had modern ships. Small wonder the British were desperate enough to bomb the fleet at Mers El Kébir!

I never said that the film I saw was an actual charge, I’m pretty sure it was just a propaganda piece. This link is what I was talking about, not sure where it is at though.

I’m still unsure about people saying that this is the optimal strategy. Although I think something we could do to make the game a little more realistic would be to institute unit counts for each country based on the populations of the powers. Like Russia could have up to 75 units on the board at once, Germany 60, Italy 30, etc. IDK how that would work but I think it could help the people that still cry the inf. push mechanic is king.

I think that the problem with a J3 India crush is the only way that the allies can come back before Japan takes Sydney is by lucky dice. At least that is what I have heard from people that play the game extensively. Heck even Larry has said that the game is set up to where the Japan player is a fool not to attack on the first turn, though he did not mean for it to be that way. But I think the combined game with those 18 Russian infantry will give that crucial turn or two difference that the US needs to get a huge force over to Australia to thwart Japan’s plans of invasion. At least that is what it seems like.

From what it seems like, this should only be necessary for AAP40, not global. Global seems like it was playtested very extensively.

Honestly the main problem was that they were using pre-WWI equipment, they actually reverted back to calvary and stopped producing tanks. It was a horrid chain of events that led up to them getting run over like they did. They didn’t have an air force, ther generals were all old and still in the mindset of WWI tactics (anyone just has to look at the maginot line to see that they still believed in trench warfare).

In all honesty the French were bled white by the first world war, they took huge losses and the war was mainly fought on their territory. They just lost the will to fight after what happened in WWI.
