Yes me too. I see a lot of sense in buying battleships and cruisers. And how can you not have tanks? Yes they are not very effective in the Pacific, but you can’t deny their abilities when using them on mainland Asia or Europe where lots of ground needs to be covered.

Seems to be a wash to me so far. I voted that Japan has a slight advantage, but that could change with more games under my belt.

RE: Kamakazi attacks, do they happen on the japanese combat phase only?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
The carriers and the planes are not defending, they are attacking and the kamikaze is defending.

RE: Has anybody won as the Allies??posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
The problem I think that people are running into is that you HAVE to react to what the Japanese do with their turns, since they move BEFORE you do. It seems paramount for the allies to not follow a “formula,” like many of the previous games where once the code was cracked it all came down to a strict set of opening moves that were always used to get maximum efficiency for a win. Now the game has many different angles for you to take, you have to look and think about what your opponent is doing to be able to stop the Japs, and then push them back.

They have to be cargo, kamikazes only come when Japan is being attacked. That being the case, only one ally can attack at a time so the allied planes would have to be cargo.

RE: Why plane not on island can't scramble?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
carrier rule is a bit of a joke. my fleet @ pearl goes to attack japan, it can make it thanks to the navy base there, but for some reason my planes have to fly the whole way from hawaii, not sit on the carrier’s deck until one SZ out…so you can’t use them for an attack on the mainland…lame.
Remember that combat movement all happens simultaneously, so that is the reasoning behind why planes have to take off from a carrier before it can move. And landing happens on the non-combat phase, at least that is the only thing I can think of as to why you have to do it that way.

RE: Disapointedposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I understand what you are talking about but man you must really get lucky dice rolls or something. Either that or the Allies just have no luck at all because in the game I’m playing, the Japs have the edge right now but I have lost quite a bit to get China and India. And the US is coming on strong.

Ok, that was a question that I had as well, so only islands can get the most benefit out of airbases, such as the scramble ability. Good to know.

Yeah i’m too stupid. I’ve only played AA for 17 years. WTF. I’m a rookie. This game is trash.
I don’t think anyone is saying that. What we are saying is you can’t say a game is broken until you exhaust every option. I see that it is really easy to take China, India and the Phillippines, but I don’t see how you could do that and also get to Australia without the US having an overwhelming force. Please tell us how exactly you can win with Japan, every time automatically? I really want to see how you can do this.

RE: First game over - review and a few questionsposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I’m getting sick of people saying that this game is unwinnable as the allies, what bollocks! Yes japan can take India and China without much trouble but getting to Australia and other places will be quite hard if the US player moves his starting pieces effectively. Also the US player cannot waste money on troops and transports early, they must build Carriers and planes like crazy, with a sprinkling of destroyers to combat subs. If you take the seas you can choke Japan’s economy by bloking convoy routes. You must do this if you want to win the game, don’t piss around with land forces until you ahnilate their navy and own the ocean.

It’s all about the carriers and planes baby! Just as it was in real life.

RE: Disapointedposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I think it’s shaping up to be one of the best A&A’s that has been produced thus far in terms of complexity, detail, balance and over all fun. It is a truly amazing game
This game is FAR from balanced, it is should not even be considered unbalanced, it is BROKEN. Don’t agree? Setup the game. Now, replace every tac bomber that isn’t on a carrier with a tank. Then look at the board. Would you consider this game balanced at the start? The INSANE amount of air power the Japanese get to start the game is ridiculous. Attack J1, by J2 you are taking the DEI. Game over. Every time. This game was designed for 12 yr olds who like to buy copious amounts of units and take it slow for some huge battle involving 32 CV’s. Wait, they didn’t give you enough for that, use chips OR MY FAVORITE FROM THE RULEBOOK, PIECES OF PAPER! Really. You are telling me to write on pieces of paper. I could have done that on my own and gone to KINKOS to print off a scan of the map, DL’d the rulebook, and saved $70. THANKS WOTC! You boned me yet again.
Sounds like someone has no idea how to use the United States……you do realize that you have to capture SIX victory cities right? Not just Calcutta or Sydney, but also TWO more. And if Japan attacks J1 that should be suicide if you are playing someone who knows how to mobilize the US.

RE: Neutral Territoryposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
What you said makes no sense, they are neutral because they were not controlled by anyone or had an alliegance during the war! They only cared about what was happening inside their own borders, and why exactly would anyone want to attack switzerland, it is nothing but mountains! If there would be any IPC value it would be only 1, WHOOPEEE!

RE: Question about Political Situationposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I think he means that because the US declares war on the end of turn 3 (collect income phase) so really they can’t make any combat moves until turn 4. But they do collect wartime income at the end of turn 3, so I guess it depends how you look at it when the US is at war, increase in income or actual aggressions.

RE: New National Production Chart!posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I’m just using the old Pacific chart. Kamikaze slider… goes up very high… its working pretty well. The VP track of course isn’t used.
Good idea, I have the original AAP but I’ll probably just soldier on with the chart they gave us for this game. What really pisses me off is the battle board, some units aren’t on there and then some are there that shouldn’t be!

RE: Why wait as Japan?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
How is the US only gaining 24? The bonus is added onto the income, not taken away from it. US IPC should be 50, and only minus the IPC value of any territory captured by the Japs, not including the bonus they lose. So if US shifts to a wartime economy with no losses in territories, its income should be higher than 50.

RE: Neutral Territoryposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I think the reason behind this is very simple, just who exactly is supposed to control the neutrals’ movement? Think about it, if Japan attacks Mongolia for instance, the allied player, caring nothing about the state of Mongolia would just love this so he can activate all the units and use them as free cannon fodder. Yeah the reason for neutrals not being activated or moved is simple, we as players would take advantage of that. Plus we would have to make a turn for neutrals, track their moves, have a control marker or a different colored unit and all this other stuff that would make the came hopelessly complicated with the materials we have at our disposal. I like the rule because at least now you can invade if you want, but instead of a monetary penalty you now have to fight and it is simple and uncomplicated. That is what we all want, right guys?
