      Lead the Way:
      Once per turn, this unit can reroll a single attack die or movement roll.

      1.  No cover for a head shot.  (And even if they did, all a cover oll does is reduce damaged/destroyed to a disrupt…and a disrupt is the effect that a headshot has anyways.

      2.  All commanders abilities can effect themselves (in rules parlense, a unit is considered adjacent to itself).

      3.  Yes, see pt 2.  This makes him a kick-ass fighter as long as he’s ot disrupted!

      Just to be clear there is only one unit that I know which allows a friendly unit to spot.  The M1 81mm mortor.  To be more specific it’s got to be a U.S. unit also.

      All other long range motors need spotters.

      @General_D.Fox:

      @newpaintbrush:

      @mateooo:

      Im sure this has been discussed and resolved a million times over, and as far as I know it is true, but I would like a clarification for a game I am in.
      In order to use the suez canal, you must have control of both sides (EGY and TRJ) at the beginning of your turn.
      Is this true?
      Thanks
      Mateo

      Right, right.  Since the BEGINNING of your turn, so if you take control of one of those territories from an enemy power during combat, you cannot move through it durning noncombat.

      If you are playing the Axis and Allies Drinking Game, you must also hum a tune that another player on your team must identify, while drinking either a beer or a shot (depending on the version of the game you’re playing).  This happens while you are physically moving the units from one side of the Suez Canal to the other.

      So how does humming a tune help while crossing the canal, bird man? Do you plan to walk across using your 8th and 16th notes as a land bridge?

      Most of the territory you are marching through (barring the canal) is desert.  Therefore, it will be parched.  Therefore, singing and whistling will waste moisture.  Since soldiers need something to do while they’re marching, and they might as well do something as long as they have those nice percussion instruments (boots on the ground), they should hum.  That is how humming helps you cross a canal.  It passes the time.

      Writing, editing, and adding to the rules for the drinking game is what the fat bastards with all the stars do while they’re riding in the jeeps watching you poor schmoes do your “exercise”.  You don’t think we became generals just because we got Purple Hearts, do ya?

      Besides, we’re technically working when we’re doing it.  I think the unofficial designation is something like “Practicing for justifying budget expenditure”; it’s how the military justifies those billion dollar military budgets.  The OFFICIAL designation, of course, is something like “Filling out paperwork for determinance of optimal cost-effectiveness free-form tactical maneuvers”, which looks damn good on those stupid papers we have to send in, and has the added bonus of making anyone that reads it fall asleep by the time they finish the sentence, so they never CAN track down all those expenditures anyways, which is precisely the point.

      –

      I’m not really a general, you know.  Unless it’s “general-ly looking at girls”

      When you download the file, change the ending to .map or .aam.  If it is a 2nd edition game, change it to .map.  If it is an AAR game change it to .aam.  Then you will be able to open the file from your “file” menu in AABattlemap.

      @mateooo:

      Just curious about everyones favorite teeth grinding, god cursing, board kicking, tank throwing, dice rueing bad luck moments.
      I just had a pretty wretched start/end of one game.
      I was axis.
      Russia took Ukraine with 1 INF 1 RTL 3 ARM remaining (already some mildly poor luck)
      I then attacked back with 6 INF 1 RTL 1 FTR 1 ARM. (calculated to win something like 95% of the time with ground troops, I might not have all the troops exactly right.
      Well, after two rounds of combat, the GER FTR retreats, all other forces destroyed, having inflicted 0 casualties, and the future looks bleak for the Fatherland.

      Bad not so much for the magnititude of the loss, but for the complete hope sucking and soul crushing nature. (later looked at the odds for that result… <1%.Â

      PLease, share your tales of woe.
      Mateo

      Same as you. Bid 2 INF to Ukraine. USSR takes, with NO losses. German counter fails.

      I still won that game, but man, what a bad start…

      There was another thread where it was discussed whether attacking subs could retreat, or only submerge.  Just wanted to make it clear they can retreat with the other attacking units.  No harm meant……

      Octopus, it’s in my siggy.  Ha.  :-D

      Ezto, all the best players from flames-of-europe can play low luck.  When they’re ready to play with the big kids, they can come on down and play a REAL man.  Woman.  Small fuzzy creature from Alpha Centauri.  :-P.  I can understand the appeal of lowering the luck factor, but to me, luck is a vital part of the game.  You have to have, um, cojones, for lack of a better word.  Even when the odds are in your favor, there’s always an element of risk.

      Response to original post -

      I prefer Revised to Classic, but I can see that classic has its points.  First, old dogs don’t like change.  Second, some people just prefer classic’s play style.  (Three dice for heavy bombers, that was the stuff . . .)

      @ncscswitch:

      Even if you are CERTAIN to lose at least 1 FIG in battle does not matter.

      When are you CERTAIN?
      in a game with real dice, there is a REALLY, REALLY big chance you’ll lose it, but you are never CERTAIN :-P  :evil:

      A

      before I ever heard the exact rules of A&AR, I thought that a part of the combat sequence was like this:

      the attacker attacks with his attacking dice the defender defends with his defending dice the defender attacks with his defending dice the attacker defends with his attacking dice casualties are taken from the board
      (…step 1 till 5 again…)

      maybe a little feedback is needed?
      say 4 fighters attack 3 infantry and 2 fighters?

      the attacker rolls 4 dice. he rolls (as an example: 1,2,3,4) so 3 hits the defender rolls his defense: infantry 2,5,6 and fighter 4,5 so he has defended 2 of his units good, but will lose one unit (the third hit he could not prevent by defending rolls) the defender makes a counterattack with his defending dice (he is in his own territory, so he has an advantage…): he rolls 2,3,4 for inf and 4,6 for figs. so, 1 hit for the inf and 1 hit for the figs. the attacker rolls for this counterattack and rolls a 3,4,5,6 so only one die (the ‘3’) is good for the attacker to prevent the damage sustained. another unit has to die…

      you can see this is a whole other way of playing, and would make the game look more like “warhammer”
      I just thought the game would be played this way, but since I know the rules, I know it’s not  :lol:
      I’m not suggesting you should play this way…
      you can always say every casualty has a “save” of a “1 on 6” or a “2 on 6” to prevent being lost and still stay in battle…
      I know this rule would prolong battle, but sometimes people want this…
      :-P

      You are correct Nix.  An AA can;t load in combat, since it may only move in non-combat.

      About half way down, the first 2 or 3 paragraphs on non-combat movement are explicit.
