      but panzerfausts are WAY better than flamers, with a medium range vehicle attack, close ASSAULT ELEVEN against vehicles, and they cost 5 too.

      flamers can do few things well, and that is kill soldiers and halftracks at very close range, and maybe damage a light tank. Flamers cost 5 and how many soldiers are worth more than 5? you basically have to sacrifice that flamer to get close enough to actually kill anything, and most times you are just killing a soldier.

      Ild rather lose a soldier or 2 to a flamer, then a medium or heavy tank to a panzerfaust.

    • Cheese move

      Im forced to accept the cheesy halftrack unloading a troop into a territory with a soldier already, thoes earning a free cheesy extra move out of the hex.

      How bout the hero deployment? does that work too? It says deploy a hero in any territory with a soldier. Can’t I just deploy him in a territory with 2 soldiers, and get a free cheesy extra move out of the hex?

      Also, if a flamer is disrupted (-1 to attack roll), what happens if that unit rolls 3 6s? Does this count as instant death? Or does being disrupted COMPLETELY nullify the flamethrower ability?
      If this is indeed the case, than would any unit that adds +1 to your roll mean that any 5 rolled by a flamer unit really count as a 6 in regards to 3 6s instant death? If one, then the other makes sense, but what is the official ruling? Maybe the intention is that every and only natural 6s count, regardless of modifiers.

      and most importantly, the italians are better spaghetti makers than allies.  If you have a choice, pick anyone else.

    • RE: Basic Germany Advice

      Crucial advice for Basic German Strategy:

      Bring lots of warm clothes to Russia. You might think that your trip to russia will be done by fall, but winter comes quick, and frostbite sucks.

      Dont sink the Lusitania, no matter how many guns you might think are on it.
      Seriously. Just dont do it.

      Alsace and Loraiine… just not worth it. Let those whiny french keep it.

      Never trust men with small mustaches, no matter how persuasive they may seem.

    • Rules, interpretations and errata

      how about a stick at the top of this forum that allows us to start cataloging summaries of all the rule disputes and resolutions we get, for ease of perusal.

      for example

      1. dismounting or loading in the same hex does not trigger defensive fire
      2. Gamer cheats, don’t turn your back on him
      3. Commanders in vehicles still get their abilities but can’t be targetted. (blech)

      @Motdc:

      It does indeed slag on DF too.  DF Attacks are still attacks.  Its the same reason that Close Assault can be performed as DF, etc.

      Mot

      good point

    • RE: Flamethrower

      well, i could see people arguing both ways. It makes sense, logically, that it would also kill them (that flamethrower is using the same flame to defensively fire) but often the rules can be ambiguous.)

      anyone have a link to official FAQs?

      does it destroy anything with 3 6s on defensive fire? Im guessing not but curious.

    • RE: Hero

      um, what does that all mean? there are two opinions here
      one is that it does not get a disrupted counter
      one is that it gets one, but is not affected by it.

    • Hero

      what does the hero ability mean in regards to defensive fire.
      Specifically, what does “ignore face up disrupted mean”? Do they ignore the detrimental effects of being disrupted, or do all face up disrupted counters placed on them disappear? Are they still, or at all affected by defensive fire?

    • RE: Command Dependent

      @Der:

      Exactly,  Russia’s is effed.  With the monster Armies of the allies, and all their choice builds, their only match is the Germans who are equally rounded.  Soviets, and especially Japan are severely limited.  Even the Deg who is a dead equal to the Bar is totally handicapped because of command dependant.  They should have made another unit like a “Degtyarev DP-31” or something for 1 more point that could move on it’s own without it’s mommy holding it’s hand.

      PPSH-41 are bad mothers, but they tend to get mowed down before they get close enough to do their damage.  Although they work pretty nicely when transported and are cheap units.

      i think we can both point out a few ridiculously good Russian units…
      KV-1…
      Soviet Hero?

      lots of nice tank transports!

    • Command Dependent

      Or, why I hate italian and Russian infantry.

      What does command dependent mean in regards to loading and unloading on transports.

      Assuming no adjacent friendly commander, can a command dependent soldier load onto a transport or unload from a transport in their movement phase?

      the specific rule stats that they “can’t move” in their movement phase unless there is an adjacent friendly commander.

      Is loading, unloading, and being transporting considered moving?

    • RE: A&A Miniatures Re-write

      @Half-Track:

      I kind of like some of the expanded rules but they make things complicated.  Overwatch is a good one.  For you guys that don’t have the expanded rules, basically instead of moving during your movement phase or attacking during the attack phase you can declare up to two tanks or antitank guns on overwatch.  You may not move or fire these units and they must be faced in one direction.  If an enemy units moves in front of (that would mean just down the line of site, one row of hexes directly down the facing) you may attack that unit.

      Ive played a lot of games with overwatch (Mordheim, Necromunda) and while it is a cool and realistic feature, it really slows down the game, and would REALLY slow down a PBEM game, with more opportunities to interrupt the flow of the game in order to ask “do you want to shoot THIS target with overwatch?”

      Kinda like drawing out defensive fire shots in order to clear the way for another unit, except now it happens even MORE often.

    • RE: Any way Axis can win this game????

      @Cmdr:

      @a44bigdog:

      1 Taking out the US is all but impossible except for rare circumstances so I would recommend forgetting about this other than learning what the rare circumstances are so they can be capitalized on.

      You may want to rephrase that since I’ve become quite adept at taking out America first.

      England is almost impossible to take.  Generally speaking, the Allies will see the threat to England and be completely oblivious to the threat to America until too late.  KAF (kill America First) is a tactic of deception where you play conservatively with the axis and then spring the trap when you are set up.

      Kill Russia is by far the easiest tactic to take.

      Didnt you lose England in last years singles tourney? Twice?
      :-o

      Here’s a question. Do you have to move the CV? Or can you abandon your fighters to a watery death? It happens all the time in the movies.

    • RE: War story

      “good luck” in real life wars is usually secondary to good leadership, higher tech or better strategies, not " good luck". Russia sure had a big army in WWI, but they sure didnt fare too well. And American infantry sure can kill a whole lot of enemy infantry with minimal casualties, but thats because of fancy weapons and vehicles. Course that dont necessarily mean we win…

    • RE: Questions

      for purposes of LOS, is a unit with no turret able to target something directly to its side? (not in front, or behind).

      My thought is not, as when you attack a unit from the side, you are targetting its rear, implying that something to the side is considered “behind” that unit, but who knows with AAM.

      anyone know?
