One thing I was really thinking about when I looked at the map: Russia’s two main territories are usually Caucasus and Moscow, forming a boundary for Germany, but with this game, Germany can blitz around those to capture undefended territories. (Off the top of my head, I think Anniversary had the same type of setup, but I’m used to playing revised and 1942 1st Ed.) Also, Russia starts out with an IC in Karellia. So, besides a greater GB presence in Africa, I think Germany is a lot better off than in previous versions, balancing out Japan’s handicaps.

Spring 1942 Set-up Cards
I have Revised (2004), and I will be getting 1942 2nd Ed. Because the Revised map is pretty much the same as 1942 1st Ed., I figured I could just play 1942 on the older board. I have the instruction book PDF. I also saw the set up info on the Resources page, but I was wondering if any of the members here actually made their own cards or if they have a really good scan of them or something like that (I would be printing them out and laminating), because let’s face it. I just have no skill doing that kind of stuff. Thanks =)

RE: .
Axis:
–Germany takes Egypt, knocks out much of the GB fleet
–Japan takes out Hawaiian and Indian fleets and pushes through India, China, or Russia (usually 2 or all three, depending on circumstances of the game)Allies:
–Russia tries to survive
–GB tries to hold on to Africa while being a pain in the butt to the Germans
–US- I’ve tried massing subs in the Pacific to immobilize Japan and bombing the crap out of the Germans. Those two strategies have tended to work well for me -
RE: Next axis and allies game should be?
AXIS & ALLIES EXPANSION SET
Personally, I think it’d be cool to have an expansion game with 4-5 (?) different boards, allowing for a group of smaller battles (each playable in less than two hours), but not creating tons of weird rules, as in Guadalcanal and D-Day. The battles could be between any powers, as WTC would not have to spend their precious, hard earned money on sculpts. It would, after all, be an expansion set, with the players using pieces from 1942 2nd Edition. All that would need to be provided is the maps, set-up charts, an IPC tracker board (?), and an instruction booklet. Battles could include Kursk, Stalingrad, or even sea battles!!!
Think about it. Shorter gameplay, more replay-ability, and with less in the box, a lower cost ($30-35?) and no worries about complaints that the pieces (such as IC’s) didn’t meet up to anyone’s high standards.

RE: Is China at least 3 territories?
And if there were four, it wouldn’t screw up the IPC count. You could just have each territory be worth 1 IPC.

Just donated $5. Not much, but I wanted to contribute something to all who have made TripleA possible.

RE: When was Europe 1940 discontinued?
I currently have a copy of Europe 1940, and I just recently saw how much they are going for on ebay. If I sold mine, that would make enough money to buy a reprint, but all I hear about a reprint is hearsay. I don’t want to sell mine unless I’m ABSOLUTELY sure there will be a reprint. Thoughts?

RE: Neutral Blocks Discussion - Delta+1
Here’s another idea:
If one of the strict neutrals in a block is attacked, the others not only become Pro-Axis, but those which are still neutral get an infantry bonus. For example, If US attacks Venezuela, then Argentina and Chile both get an extra 1-4 infantry, due to local resistance to American forces. If Italy attacked, the same thing would happen. -
RE: Delta+1 Poll#2
I voted. And so far I like what’s being done with Delta1. I just hope we can make a rule system that works well.

I’m 90 percent sure that it was $100

RE: Free Diplomacy Online?
I’m not sure how well it works because I haven’t tried it yet, but Triple A has a version of this game.

RE: Alpha 4?
I love how the topic always seems to go to sealion. :P
Seriously though, if you want to talk about the validity of sealion, there are many threads already dedicated to that. (and tons of off topic convos like this one)Anyways…. I think that the AA guns should not keep firing throughout combat. If anything, just make them fire four or five shots instead. (still a step down from the old rules, where they fired on all planes)

RE: Alpha 4?
@Cmdr:
Is there going to be another set of rules for Global 1940, or is Alpha3 the final one?
And, just curious, what are your guys’s opinions about this? Do you think they tried to do too much with the 1940 games? (In other words, that the idea of a 1940 setup was too good to be true)
C) If there is a 1940 Global Enhanced game I’d like to see the following:
……
…I like your suggestions Jennifer, especially your use of French units as defense, since they’re pretty much useless for attacks, as there really isn’t enough of them. I was thinking about using a house rule of standing armies, but French units works well also, as you do not need to make many significant rule changes. The only things I don’t like are the following:
Germany - “Submarines may now do 1 CRD die roll if in a sea zone adjacent to a convoy zone.” - should be normal rules
China - I’d say that if they capture an Axis IC, they should be able to produce artillery (regardless if they control the Burma Road) and fighters (can only have a max of 3-5).
Japan - “Siberia, Sakhe, Amur and the Soviet Far East are now a National Objective. (5 IPC)” - Didn’t the USSR and Japan have a nonagression treaty? Then why would this be a NO?
General Rules - I definitely would like the return of Technology Tokens, though maybe it would be good if they cost 6 or 7 IPCs instead.
- I’m not sure if I like the idea of giving Germany 2 combat phases. Maybe you could let tanks move one space, attack, then move and attack in a second battle? That way you keep consistent with movement rules, yet still give Germany an attack advantage.
Other than that, I think those are great. I think it is better for a long term game also. Great job.

RE: Frist game this Friday/I will be Japan
@special:
Do not abandon the Carolines, even though they may seem like a useless outpost, it is actually an important strategic place (abit the gibraltar of the Pacific), it’s bad when the enemy has control over it.
Also, don’t take India too fast, and if you do, don’t take Malaya. And if you do, make sure USA can’t take it it or you’ll have to face a US major IC that is impossible to take back.
Happened to me on my first game and although i was doing well (just took all the mainland), that was the turning point in the game. Game lost, lesson learned…
Edit: also: study the sea-zones 42, 54 and around, they are tricky.
If I remember correctly, you can’t build a Major IC in a foreign territory. I do agree, though, on the importance of the Caroline Islands.

RE: Practical use of AAs in AAP40 ?
Unless I’m mistaken, don’t AA-guns in 1940 only fire at a max of 3 enemy planes?

RE: Italian tanks?
Actually, the tank is the Carro Armato 41, yeah, Italian - but with these pieces it does look like the Japanese tank at a glance. Here’s the pieces as they come with the original set:
–—link-----
And on the following pages there is each nation’s set as it is OOB.
My Italian artillery - yeah, Jap - though a different artillery piece from the Jap artillery in the AA50th (I think the ones I use for the Italians in that edition are closer to looking like the Obice da 75 Modello Guns than the Japanese 92/70mm Howitzer - but not by much), and yeah - the transport is from classic (but it’s closer to the resemblance of an Italian Mantovan Class transport ship than the German Dithmarschen Class). I drew upon a lot of different sets to give my 50th unique sculpts… it was before the fancy ones being put out now. 'Sides, you were just talking about the tanks - which actually are Italian tanks OOB in the 50th. As Rorschach stated, if you want unique sculpts that are more historically accurate, I suggest you get a set of FMG’s, there’s some fine detail to those.
Thanks for the clarification. And yes, FMG’s Italian units are pretty cool.

RE: Italian tanks?
Just curious, could someone who owns A&A Anniversary post some pics of the Italian tanks? I tried looking online for them, but I couldn’t find any pictures.
I have some painted ones here:
if it helps :|
Those are the Italian tanks? Those look a lot like the Japanese tanks. Also, the Artillery look like they’re jap, and the trannies look like they’re from classic. Or did their units actually look like that?

RE: R1 Norway Attack! HOT or NOT?
it is true that UK and US make quick gains, but if you buy correctly for germany, almost all infantry every round, then Russia becomes so weak that he can’t stand on his own. This forces UK to give troops to russia to keep russia from falling to a good german strategy. Germany doesn’t take Russia but then Japan becomes more powerful faster because russia can’t afford to send a good deal of units vs Japan.
So you buy almost all infantry every round? I understand your logic. However, the allies have time on their side. If Germany buys mostly infantry every round, wouldn’t it take longer for them to reach the front lines, thus giving US and UK more time to build up a navy and start landing troops in Western Europe? I’ve never played using this strategy, but I am just confused about how it would work.
