Yeah, there just needs to be enough to stop an easy invasion, if it costs Germany a lot of planes then it’s a Pyrrhic victory and Russia will be hard to attack. Japan needs to not attack the US either to delay the US trying to retake England. It’s expensive to keep defending too, whereas once Russia is conquered the allies don’t take it back. Sealion might be a bad idea of the Italians get mauled on turn 1 as they then can’t take advantage of the lack of UK purchasing.

Well it took the threat of 18 transports full of GIs with square jaws and amazing teeth to force the surrender. Also all those double Germany-Japan turns must have been tiring! It was nice to have a different type of game. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I think with a few different dice rolls then the Axis would have been able to take Persia or India and then roll up the other from there. Then the economic tables would have been turned on the Allies.

Do you want a rematch? Switch sides? You may of course take some R&R first.

Also thank you for your fair play, especially when I screwed it up in the beginning, not knowing the rule that Germany cannot move into ex-Russian territory when not at war with the communists! It was very kind to let me re-do the move, even with Italy!

I agree that it’s more or less game over now, so just the right time to throw in the towel. Axis had a serious economic advantage though, so believe it was unstoppable anyway.

You did a daring multiple-attacks in China that were actually quite successful and presented Japan with some difficulties. Only problem then was that you also ran out of units, so after the blow I could consolidate.

Losing Calcutta could’ve been postponed, but would mean letting go of Yunnan. Think keeping India active is more important. Same goes of course with Moscow, but it’s harder to counter Germany there.

@giallo thank you, Giallo! As I mentioned at the beginning, I am not a fan of Sea Lion. As expected and feared, Russia grew into a monster. It was tough to push the red army back and at the same time having an eye on the US Navy in the Pacific.

@flyingbadger thank you, Dave! It was a fun game! In my fourth attempt, I finally managed to win :-)

I think it was two blunders which decided the game: The first one was to offer the UK on a silver tablet. At the beginning of the match, I intended to go for Sea Lion, but you well defended - as you described below. When I brought back those transports from Novgorod to Germany, the plan was actually to get reinforcements for Russia using a short cut with the transports. I didn’t have a second attempt for Sea Lion in my mind - and apparently neither did you.

The second blunder was to leave the US fleet unprotected. Lucky me, the “blocking” sub could just be ignored by the Japanese.

Had you kept the UK and the US fleet, it would have been a much longer game, and I can’t tell who wold have won.

I am looking forward to our next game! As it is the end of the year, we might go for another BM-match outside of the league, if you like. Or we go for the tutor PtV game, in December :-)

@feltmarskal congratulations, Feltmarskal! You punished me for not supporting the UK with the US. I was too focused on Japan. When you started your action against the UK, there would still have been time for the US to send some fighters, but I underestimated the danger. The US is strong, now. But I am sure it could not stop Germany from taking China and Persia slowly but surely.

@martin Good advice, I’ll have to try that out sometime. This was one of my first few times doing Middle Earth and I noticed some mistakes.
