    • RE: Any experiences with a global J3 attack?

I like to go a little earlier, turn two if possible.  You deny India and Australia a large percentage of their income by taking the DEI sooner.  Toss out a couple transports 1st turn.  Round 2 I’m looking to get a major complex to directly compete with India and fast.  Might have to wait till Round 3 to build it in Kwangtung or Malaya.

Let the US get the 30 bucks.  Either way they’re building 50 points of something planning to use it in Gibralter.  Wait too long and they build peaceably.  Catch them soon and maybe you can pounce on some of that stuff from the Philippians.

    • RE: China how long does it stay around in your games?

China is easy to neuter, difficult to eliminate.

Turn 5 in our current game has china going down to 2 territories

I think india is a more worthy target leaving china stuck for endgame.

If russia gets strong then ugh.

    • RE: Is A&A 1940 global really worth it????????

I love the game.  Then again I own about 6 of their bored games lol.

really I like the “joined” game more than either Europe or Pacific alone.  It takes a long time to play though.

IF I only could own one Axis & Allies game it would be Anniversary.  Never thought I would say it, but the game is plenty complicated and plays quicker.

    • RE: US Factory Norway???

It is a definate threat to the germans.

Norway builds are slow. Pretty easy after landing units in england for defense. Germany usually has a sea lion fleet in the baltic……any time america gets to trade units with germany it is a plus.

    • RE: German Strategy: Mediterranean Offensive

I like the flexibility in this edition.

Most games i probably will not do this. BUT if i see america is thinking about plopping down five bombers to reach out and kill some japanese this could force them to build in the atlantic.

      Thanks for the idea.

    • RE: Kill Australia First?

      Oh!

A two transport strike onto Australia’s north coast can sometimes be enough if Australia had their troops up north planning to move to the DEI.

Turn 1 to the north coast.  Turn two put them back on the transports and head to Sydney.

In multi-player games it is difficult to coordinate the Allied defense.

I wonder if the open source fellas will get an on line version up before the pay to play guys.  U guys get me thinking so much I’m about ready for PBEM like in the 80’s!

Kwangtung has to be better in most games.  Just something about how far forward the Americans were made me want to get away from them so I could keep killing Chinese also.  Malaya is nice and close to Africa and Australia as well

    • RE: USA Too many IPCs? Too much Power?

“but without US led invasions in both Italy and Normandy diverting German resources and troops, that front would probably have ended in stalemate.”

The Germans had lost at Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk by the time of the landing in Italy.  There was no coming back from that.

Now Stalin was begging for a second front for good reason.

Who knows how long his populace would have had a taste for war to the finish on the scale they were fighting it.

Who knows when the Germans would have figured out the atomic bomb.

I find it interesting in the game.  When the Germans win Sea Lion it puts them soo far behind the Russians.  In real life they feinted at it when the opportunity to land did not present itself.

    • The Axis win by keeping it exciting

My buddy is playing the oddest Germany.  He had a close opportunity and took England G2 by giving up all his airforce and has held it since thanks to some naval movements.

Japan built more transports J1 and attacking the UK and America J2 going a step too far in taking the Philippines, but getting one of the DEI, killing the Indian transports and taking Malaya. Next turn built a major complex there.  Further away from the Americans who are using wake and the other one of theirs as effective air bases.

Things are THIN for Japan.  Russia could be opening China back up but then would be sacrificing its push towards Poland. The 18 infantry are facing off with 7 or 8 Japanese units one square back from fighter range.

The Americans were splitting their money Pacific heavy (to kill me lol) but now seem worried about the Germans.  They have tons of transports and fellas but really need more airplanes after an AA gun in England culled their herd.

England has actually been a pain.  On G1 they rolled pretty well and it filled them with too much confidence.  Killed the Italian Navy, built a new plane, cared about Africa, that type of thing.

Italy has been a non factor.

The two biggest tactical decisions by the Axis were:

Seeing Australia and England go heavy for the DEI which opened up Malaya and the others there instead of the usual island money grab.

Germany moving into Russia G2 to back Russia up while taking territory they had no intention of holding since they saw the American transports out of position and thanks to builds in the east fairly unsupported to re-take England IF that darned sea lion attack went well.

I just noticed how THIN the board looks compared to when the Allies win.  My factory in Malaya appears immune to the American landings and coupled with a landing in Alaska the American Navy is out of position now.

If the situation presents itself take it.  I like having a few transports down south ready to pounce on any allied mistakes in India or Australia

    • RE: USA Too many IPCs? Too much Power?

Russia deserves its forty bucks. It did survive without the US for a long time.

How many american troops were in europe when the germans were falling back from moscow?

No american units in the fall of forty two either when the germans were falling back from stalingrad. Perhaps we were landing on some frenchmen in morocco and we were making the germans expend all that energy shooting down our bombers.

By kursk at least we were preparing the italian campaign.

Off the bat folks are complaining about an imbalance in favor of the allies.

The game reminds me of the old pacific game in some ways. The axis have to accomplish a bit im the limited number of turns before america’s industrial might makes even a United States newby the most powerful nation.

    • RE: Average time to complete one round of AAG40?

I think we got down to 45 minutes later in a game.  Even with Anniversary we would set Battlestar episodes playing in the back ground and make decent time.  I will NEVER be able to play the BBC’s World At War in the background during Global.  Turns would take all night.

Germany has a pretty easy time pre planning its buys

Russia goes right after Germany but has a relatively easy purchase phase.

Japan is next and usually isn’t too influenced by what Russia does.  Sometimes the 18 infantry move makes Japan change its plans.

The UK / India purchase phase is like two powers and needs planned ahead.  India is soo reactionary to Japan though.  Easier after Japan gets them down to 12 IPC lol.

Australia has to talk see what happens with India frequently.  Not like they usually have tons of money to spend though at least.

Italy sometimes isn’t done figuring out how to counter the UK by the end of Australia’s quicker turns.  Italy has to be careful too.

The US isn’t real dependent on Italy to decide what it buys.  Has tons of money though.

China should be ready.  Germany gets to react to what America does during this time.

France, a speedbump of unit moves to give Germany time to react to anything unusual America does.

    • Transports transports transport questions

I should not hijack the threads of others so here i go.

1 a transport can start in the carolines pick up one infantry there, move towards japan pick up another, enter the japanese sea zone and drop both in korea?

2 could a transport carrying two infantry drop one in both korea and japan?

3 a transport moving unescorted over an enemy sub does get fired upon?

4 if a japanese transport is sitting alone off java and the british move their battleship and a loaded transport in to do an amphibious landing the british player’s battleship can choose to either ignore the japanese transport and conduct bombardment or destroy the transport but not both?

I will come up with more transport questions for sure.  Thanks for answering any twice

    • RE: Transport questions

To clarify: if i attack a territory and suffer greater losses than i expected i can move additional land units in during my movement phase to help defend it?

Also, a transport can not move then pick up a unit, the transport must start off in the same sea zone as the units it intends to load?

I see the logic behind that as well. Good statement about the disposition of german troops.

Sometimes in text it is difficult to get across that i meke contrary points for the sake of conversation. Dont think i’m being obstinant

    • RE: Dusting off Operation:Hollywood..Will kill America first be an option like inAAR

If germany gets three transports of fellas to gibralter that should be enough to tip the scales in africa without giving up your capital. Now seven or ten would really kill that minor complex but things would be hairy up north!

      Good thinking about moving south!

    • RE: Leaving air and navy bases

a sea base is good for all ocean squares the territory is on.  The one in Egypt somehow gives the extra move to ships in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

You have to start at the sea or air base though.

And don’t forget about scrambling and islands with air bases.

    • RE: West Germany falls?

Just build 3 units?  If I own any of the French complexes I might buy more.  I also would probably dump money into upgrading the minor complex in east germany since the west german complex is damaged by the takeover (in global anyways.)
