That was cool.  I love the narrators.  What editing program do you use?

Interesting U.S. 1st push with the Axis.

    • RE: Japan/USSR Non-Aggression Pact

A valid point.  One of my strong points has always been “exploding” Japan across Asia.  That does not happen as readily in this version.  Probably to your chagrin I am slowly figuring out how to move the Japanese West.

      To make you feel better:
      1. The Soviets did attack Japan when it became a sure victory.  If Japan ends up with fewer than six infantry up there or with fewer than that many to counter attack with then Japan does deserve to be attacked.
      2. Battles did occur.  A small one in 1938 and a larger one at Khalkhin Gol in 1939.  Probably with more than 100k men involved.  Zhukov won, possibly decisively pushing the Japanese into the “Nanshin-ron” South Strike doctrine we all know about instead of any plan to seize Siberia up to or past Lake Baikal.

By mutual benefit neither side attacked the other after 1940.  Not because they got along.  The Russian and Japanese Commanders here sometimes go straight at it, other times mostly do nothing.

Outlawing any Japanese/Russian battles is a reasonable house rule though.

Who do you think it favors more?

    • RE: UK Indian Ocean Fleet Strategy, the end of Japans dominance

Good post. Sometimes when i am India i feel like i can delay the japanese forever on land if they go after the 18 siberian inf.  Wonder how this will work with japan’s land forces concentrated up there….probably even better lol.

    • RE: How should Japan try to save Europe?

Take India! Then spread to africa crippling the UK and perhaps Australia or Pearl Harbor whoch ever is easier.  Really japan needs to be a little opportunistic. If them 18inf are there to be killed then take them out and take siberia. China, blah no factories or ipc to be won there. :-o

Germany needs to save the italians in two ways. One, look interested in Sealion to prevent the turn one Taranto. Second move some darn infantry south. America is coming, if you sacrifice Italy by not helping your decision.

    • RE: Japanes Pacific conquest - preliminary thoughts.

A couple russian infantry in the east do wonders. I am toying with more mech inf heavy builds for the more fluid fronts.

I will have to use a simple hex board to practice my mech moves. This isnt 1985 with a two territory eastern front

    • RE: Mech Inf Move and Attack

      Good observation guys!

I have considerably too many pieces left over from old games.  Think the fighter is a circa 1985 model painted blue to be a flying tiger in my home made Anniversary game.

The artillery, the boys like the blue color, think it is under utilized by the French so they pick it for the Chinese.

Thanks for the quick second on the rule btw.

    • Mech Inf Move and Attack

Having a debate over the technical aspects of mech infantry movement.

Can mech infantry move through a friendly square to attack another square two away?

To use the picture for an example.  On Russia’s turn can the two mech infanty move from Sikang through Tsinghai and into Kansu to attack the Japanese if they wanted to?

Also, if Tsinghai and Shensi were Japanese controlled could the Russian mech infantry not move from Sikang through Tsinghai or Shensi and into Kansu to attack since there is no tank to escort for blitzing.

      Thank you all

    • RE: Passive Germany?

You have a valid point. Germany must be prepared. If Hitler builds nine transports and moves the troops west for sealion do not attack Russia. However if the motherland just spent fifty of its sixty round two dollars on a dozen infantry and some mechs then Germany is in better shape. Still like you say, Germany has to watch out for them Russian kill zones.

IMO letting turns pass and letting America build fifty ipc of units a round is a negative trade for that five ipc national objective. The game like chess has an odd cadence or iniative factor. The axis only have so long before the allies are prepared.

To be overly extreme.“America on round one is a helpless baby. Give her five turns and she is ready to flex”.

In chess them five turns are free moves for your pawns towards the other side of the board. In the game them five turns are territories closer to Russian factories, Moscow, or India.

At the very least each territory further into Russia you get is a turn longer it will take them to push you back. Each of them turns they kill your sacrificial one inf while you build out of German factories

    • RE: Passive Germany?

When i am Germany i expect to get pounded by the big three allies.  Now i launch all my offenses turn one and do invade Russia as soon as reasonable, hopefully G2, usually no later than G3. Russia just falls back soooo quickly.

This game has so many coastal territories for the allies to land in. Old games you cpuld build ten inf and a few fighters and hold France. Now its a counter attack game which i think helps their amphibious forces.

As Germany the trick is to expand to a viable economy then make it very costly and or slow for the allies to kill you. Japan is far away from achievable iniative stealing objectives. Just gotta wait for Japan to get India or create an imbalance someplace

    • RE: Need help forming strategy: Operation Penta-"gone". When US builds KIF?

4: Do you stay in sea zone 101 until turn 4 if neutral or where do you deploy when facing 2 German carriers, 9 transports and a Sea Lion threat on G4?

Usually I’ll wander up by Canada if the Germany and Italy are no threat to me there.  From eastern Canada I can go save England, land in Morocco, or “take” Brazil.

1: How many Land units you have on E. US turn G4?

Few.  A transport or two worth and a fighter?  Whatever I built last turn, four maybe?

2: How many navy units you have in 101 turn G4?

101 is the Eastern USA spot?  One turn’s build.  Maybe a loaded carrier and a destroyer with the rest of my fleet planning on retaking England, Morocco, well you see the pattern.

What you cooking up?  Taking that Canadian naval base or factory with German Transports would be annoying……

    • RE: Recipe for a G4 conquest of Moscow

Its just a rare opportunity to have them left open. Also makes it more likely the Italian fleet will live and gives the UK an opportunity to flub up and underprepare for sealion.

I really like your thoughts on the eastern front.  In my current game Italy is making twenty something so they can push a couole troops into Russia and have been ‘backed up’ towards the Caucasus or India by the brits who are pushing north from south africa.

    • RE: Recipe for a G4 conquest of Moscow

Nice to see an anti russian strategy. I love that big thick front especially now Rusaia makes some money.

Playing chess against humans i try to get them to react in force someplace i dont care about while i isolate a pawn or two to get me an endgame advantage.

If Japan went balls into Siberia J1 it sometimes pulls a Russian fighter, mech inf and tank. Not my fav Japanese move but your strategy is ambitious. Hey, every little bit helps.

Russia should place something like 90ipc worth of units by round 4. Given the biggest turtle of an opponent thats 30 inf in moscow though.

At least you are close enough to keep them from helping india or china

    • RE: KJF KGF and KIF?

IF Germany goes butting its head against a prepared enemy and spends 100% of its first 3 turns of IPCs on Sea Lion then Germany has a real difficult time with a dedicated American effort to retake England or take Rome / Berlin.

    • RE: Germay can force Sea Lion turn three!

If Germany pretends it is alone on the map against England I believe they can forceably capture London on G4 after dropping a large number of units in scotland G3. The G3 Landing only has 60ish attack pips not a sure thing.

I guess the most immediate threat to Germany is a R4 attack in force into Poland. Then that soft minor comolex Berlin is threatened.

Your Japanese ally could pour into siberia trying to hunt the 18 inf down and busting the line to distract Russia. Japan going after India probably isnt going to happan presuming Japan waits to attack until J4 just so america cant help defend London. By then india owns the DEI and is making 27ipc a turn.

How many land ASSUMING Germany lands everything they can, 20 land units G3 and I think 16 G4 what is left to defend or retake Berlin? You can build 3 in Berlin G5. A bunch of tanks in W Germany with your 80ipc and also a few mech in france and a tac bomber in normandy?

    • RE: Most air units you've had as America?

Good points.  Current game war started Japan2. US has split their money and thanks to Japan’s fascination in SE Asia is sitting off the Australian held Carolines ready to fight an even up 45ish pip naval battle.  We have built a couple destroyers thank goodness and split our money about evenly.

    • RE: Most viable turn to declare war as the Axis

My Japanese feel like they are spinning their wheels in China for four turns if they wait that lkng to attack the Europeans.  The DEI income really fortifies India and the darned 40ipc Russians just might wander towards China to keep them clicking. Turn two is my current favorite for taking Hong Kong Malaya the territory bordering Malaya nd one of the DEI.  The Americans are just too weak to do much then.

Now if the stack of 18 in siberia get close enough I do have to kill them and it costs me a turn.

If Sea Lion goes down i think about waiting as Japan.

Far as attacking Russia goes I thing a non Sea Lion Germany is ready G3. Would like to earlier but i am too busy in the Balkins. Soviets back up too far and I’ll attack G2. Only so many turns until American money comes into play…
