I am in the middle of a fifteen turn game with alpha+. We play in six hour sittings. My kid isnt big enough to get into the basement and mess things up yet lol.
Typically when I am the Allies games take forever. I play these things like chess and love backing up to counter attack.
My fast german armies sometimes can not take moscow in this game bit do send a couple pairs of mechs and tanks out wherever there is money to be made China and Siberia being some of the places. Thanks for the clarification I was playing right
Mmmm, industrial complex in New Zealand is tasty for the Japanese. Mmmmm.
Really Anzac could use it occasionally. Sometimes I want to build four inf and a fighter.
We usually figure Japan owns them unless otherwise stated so when the Brits recapture them for the Chinese we place a Chinese marker on them.
At the least it is one of China’s few chances to snap a marker down!
If Germany gets involved in some weird prolonged sealion perhaps……
Yes, the German navy will be in the Atlantic. There will be only twenty three German inf plus some stragglers in Greater Germany the round after Sealion. Russian navy pulls the Germans back from defending England, oerhaps cists them the chance to retake it from a divided America.
Interesting. The situation would have to be right though.
I recall a game or two of P40 where the DEI were up for grabs. Potentially we had not read the rules correctly or it was changed in the erratica. Either way Japan doesnt seem able to touch them now. Probably a representation of Dutch VIPs continuing the war from England after Germany’s victory
I’m cool with the split. US gets 40+IPC to spend in each theater once at war. FDR can choose to put it all in either coast on any one turn so that’s a little advantage to him over the UK/India type set up.
If the Axis go hell bound after either coast the US has to pay attention to destroyer screens. That’s fine.
My buddies come into Russia pretty hard. The Germans do build a couole transports but only to threaten Sealion if I am sleeping and land troops in Lenningrad.
So usually Russia goes pretty infantry heavy building a tank, mech, and artillery per turn. I love having mechs and tanks as Russia. The German stacks are usually full of these fast moving units and that causes me troubles. I just end up in these 80 vs 75 pip stand offs where I need my 10@2’s to keep up
To clarify, let me know if I have it right:
Japan can not take Dutch territories without starting war with the western allies.
UK India’s troops can claim Dutch territories on UK1 before Japan takes them. No war declaration is necessary because the UK and Dutch are allied in Europe against Germany already.
Australia can take the DEI as well.
The US can not claims the DEI with land units until it is at war with Japan.
Do the rules concerning the Soviets, Germans and Italians even matter?
???
I would keep it in the back of my mind. Perhaps an alternative if the Japanese are considering taking Egypt for the Italians and something changes it. My thoughts for an Axis complex there are India has a chance to be fairly strong in the location, so does Russia.
Still though, sometimes when you threaten Egypt the defender does something extreme and opens up other areas. When building a complex I still do this “3 turn check” like in the Revised game. Meaning what can the opponents attack me with any of the next three turns vs what can I defend with. With the minors turn1 you take the territory, turn2 you build your complex, turn3 you build at reasonable best 3 tanks to defend it or branch out.
Give it a try. The US can run extra souls to Honolulu every round and the Aussies can set a picket to protect Sidney. Some bombers in the Central US can be used in either theater.
My friends always soak up the extra 10ipc for doing nothing with Japan as many rounds as possible giving the Allies time to prepare.
I honestly think we are pretty close here. Perhaps as little as 5IPC here or there or a couple more Russian tanks from the get go. (btw, I’m a T-34 junkie) The latter would encourage the Italians to push something east. Usually a blessing but sometimes a curse for the Axis.
In my group I am the one with the game. The last OOTB game we played I won as the Axis. Then I was part of the loosing team in an Alpha+ and think I’m doing ok as the Allies in a two player Alpha ++ (11/23 or so).
My favorite games were playing OOTB as Axis and this new 11/23 Alpha game my opponent is really giving me the run around. Very positional game, Japan’s battles with China and Russia have been the bloodiest. Why do I have an American force preparing to land in South Africa?!?!?
You can still build a minor complex in captured territories just not majors.
its different but good. No ridiculous major factories but you can still build a minor or two.
You also cant change a captured minor into a major.
The particular situation is the Japanese have a minor IC in Kiangsu. If the Aussies take the territory back over for china does China destroy the IC just because they cant use it? Or can China just not use it?
It would be the only case of IC destruction in the game. Would be nice sometimes to have that option elsewhere :-O
The scrambling brit fighters are a poison pill. England can kill all its airforce before even getting a turn. This makes sealion the easiesr thing.
Also it is pretty predictable where the brit fighters can go so Germany can plan.
After 2 games I say this is a better set up for the Axis. Will get back to you on that. I LOVE the US having to pay attention to both oceans and the new complex rules. Killed alot of cheeze there.
Ignore the british major industrial complex and go fight elsewhere. The brits could land ten units a turn on your coast anywhere before. Now they are dumping their forty bucks someplace predictable.
Seriously you can fight a holding action with Germany, let italy take africa and let Japan neuter the minor allies and start rolling up russian squares.
Trick will be not letting the americans pull any gimmicks like taking over rome.
I loved playing the axis with the oob set up btw
I have played a couple interesting games of the older versions with Russia falling and Japan living.
The Allies can win in your scenario. Think of it as you have killed more than a third of the Axis strength while loosing Russia, probably a quarter of the allied war effort.
The strength of the Allied navy in the Atlantic is critical. No Us and UK navy and its an uphill battle. If Germany can concentrate on territories in Asia they can get to easily India could be in trouble before American troops from Korea and FIC minor complexes can come help.
If England has ten infantry in london and america has five transports in the english channel can the british infantry load and unload from the american transports during one british turn?
