    • RE: Global Board compared to Anniversary Board

Just print your own map for anniversary, glue the pages to thin particle board and bolt some plexiglass to the top. Avalon Hill was too dead set on making it collectable to print off a copy i could buy.

Anniversary is a great game. Worth the trouble. Global kicks butt in its own right but Anniversary is quicker.

    • RE: Any After Action Reports Yet?

Four rounds into a game. It is a big fun map!

Who knows what strategies we overlooked but i can say:

Sea Lion is a real possibility! European England needs to concentrate on ‘how many transports can germany buy with all their plundered french money’. That is way more important than using that fun new South African complex.

18 infantry is not an invincible stack. On J1 is is very possible to kill it for the loss of only 6 Japenese infantry.

Destroyer crews are my sacrificial lambs. I am always putting them in the way of different fleets to slow em down.

Even with that GREAT exchange rate killing the 18 inf might have been a bad idea somehow. Looosing that turn moving on china and india sucks.

    • RE: Taking over unfriendly neutrals on G1?

      Thanks guys.

There is tons going on in the game. If i recall in real life the Russians and Brits were tied up in the middle east. Cant remember Iraq or Iran though.

    • United Kingdom national objectives

Who gets the money in the global game? I have decided to give it to the Atlantic England for both.

I could see it as the money for the ANZAC territory bonus goes to India though

    • Taking over unfriendly neutrals on G1?

This came up first thing. The Germans want to take over Yugoslavia on their first turn. I did not find anything to prevent this in the rule book.  :-) :-)

Was i correct in letting Germany take over Yugoslavia without starting war with russia and the USA on turn one?

    • RE: Tank Purchases R.I.P.

The new cosring is going to create more combined arms forces. More exciting game play. It is more necessary to bring a cheap infantry screen now to cover your tanks.

Even early in the war germany did not go in only with tanks.

    • RE: Why isn't Mexico pro-allied neutral?

Mexico as a pro alllied nuetral would just make US have to walk into it first turn of the war.

Now if the US seems too strong too quick in the global game taking away a few bucks by ‘nuetralizing’ some wesrern hemisphere territories sounds like a good idea. Thank you

    • RE: Convoys

We use convoy rules. Seems to help keeping the navies moving. Sometimes we have a tendency to let a big group of boats sit and ‘project power’.

Having to send destroyers out with air support to kill blocading subs creates more battles.

    • RE: Where Can I Order Game From California?

St Louis Missouri has an excellent mail order place called miniature market.com. When i pre ordered mine they offered to ship it even though i live only twenty minutes away.

Minimarket does tons of ebay and website business with war at sea and other minis.

    • Naval Base from 1 land territory good for two sea zones?

I swear I read this was.  Just want to be certain before it comes up in a game.

Are naval bases in a territory like UK Egypt good for both ships departing the #98 sea zone in the Med and the 81 zone in the Red Sea?

This would also apply to Gibraltar being good for zones 92 & 91 and the UK square for 109 and 110.  Come to think of it Novogrod for 127 & 115 also.

      Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Tank Purchases R.I.P.

In Pacific40 I don’t buy as many tanks as I used to in Anniversary.  Sometimes it leads to slow predictable land battles.

Still I mix them in.  In the older versions usually slower games favor the allies if for no other reason than the US has more turns to get her transports in gear.  This favors tanks.

In situations where production is limited by Industrial Complex capacity Tanks are more important also.  If you only have 3 units you can build and NEED something to come out of South Africa to help hold the continent then here come the tanks.  They’ll be able to move up quicker and when the territory is more important than the dollars spent tanks are favored.

Heck, in the old game I remember building an infantry and two $12 fighters to defend India!

    • RE: G40 plans

"In 1938 Zhukov was directed to command the First Soviet Mongolian Army Group, and saw action against Japan’s Kwantung Army on the border between Mongolia and the Japanese controlled state of Manchukuo in an undeclared Soviet-Japanese war  that lasted from 1938 to 1939. What began as a routine border skirmish—the Japanese testing the resolve of the Soviets to defend their territory—rapidly escalated into a full-scale war, the Japanese pushing forward with 80,000 troops, 180 tanks and 450 aircraft.

This led to the decisive Battle of Khalkhin Gol. Zhukov requested major reinforcements and on August 15, 1939 he ordered what seemed at first to be a conventional frontal attack. However, he had held back two tank brigades, which in a daring and successful manoeuver he ordered to advance around both flanks of the battle. Supported by motorised artillery and infantry, the two mobile battle groups encircled the 6th Japanese Army and captured their vulnerable supply areas. Within a few days the Japanese troops were defeated."
      that is from Wikipedia

While I doubt I’d take a Japan first strategy with Russia remind Japan of the bear on their shoulder doesn’t hurt.  When I play Japan in P40 my Manchurian territories clear out early while my units are working their way through China and to India.  Only reason I ever put anyone there has been if the Americans look like they’re trying to land.

48 points of additional allied units on that side of the board might slow things up
