    • RE: The United Kingdom Split

I ASSUMED the split had to do with a couple things. Either historical problems with getting ipc like value from india and islands in the pacific to england, or a certain amount of local demand for resources to be spent for the protection of at least their hemisphere.

If the british player can decide where to spend 55 dollars each turn it makes him and the allies stronger. Sea lion is easier to defeat if you can plop 8 tanks in england on UK1. On UK2 they can plop 55 bucks back in india to make up for it.

    • RE: G1 Barbarossa

I might go G1 next game. In a way this is like the first pacific game. The axis are counting turns until america gets too strong to resist.

By taking most or all of that front line germany is one turn closer to threatening moscow, sneaking through the caucasus on the way to india or at least doing something important

    • RE: G1 soften up France so Italy can take it

These sound like really neat house rules. If the allies seem to win too many games over here we will probably use them. Potentially turning all of north africa over to the germans.

Tons of fun stuff with the french. Imagine the germans being able to move french soldiers around africa but the french turn back allied first time normany is landed in!

I play a bit of War At Sea as well. Reading the back of the french cards is entertaining. Ships escaping port and german capture with unfinished guns. Ships firing at americans landing in africa.

Heck, am i remembering right that the british landed in madagascar to liberate it from the french? Wasnt the HMS Barham or the Ramilles or some other old battleship there?

    • RE: Seriously?

It is more difficult for new players to play japan, heck the axis, in either game.

Just takes a bit to be able to either see how things will unfold or experience to know how the game plays.

In P40 when our less experienced players get japan its a slow inevitable allied push. Put up a message board junkie and i am trying crazy things to knock J1 off its ladder

    • Does a British transport in the med coast Italy the national objective?

Thats pretty much the question. We decided it does not since it is not a war ship.

      Were we right?

    • RE: G1 options

Trick might be to attack russia with the sole goal to weaken them for the japanese attack through china.

If america puts the money into slowing up japan then they arent taking italy on round five

    • RE: G1 soften up France so Italy can take it

If the french kill the few italian infantry who take paris it is a double mistake. Germany just plunders their IPCs on G2

Japan usually go asia strong and not bother the americans?

The real japan attacked the Alleutians if i remembered. My japan likes to fake an attempt to build an IC in alaska. Seems to cost the americans a turn or two.

    • RE: Axis or Allies Wins in Those Who Have Played Global…List them here.

One and one. Couple semi starts to try things out.

The axis seem to need the more experienced players to win while interesting enough if england is played by a newb the allies might suffer a fatal blow on round two.

Anyone try a glancing blow at stalingrad with the german army then turn south through th :-oe caucasus to india?

    • RE: G1 Barbarossa

I have not tried that one yet but noticed the same pattern you have.

One drawback is russia can wander south and activate the pro allied neutral iran sooner……

If I can line them up so russia cant counter attack any of that expensivr armor I’ll go for it

    • G1 soften up France so Italy can take it

This didn’t seem intentional but in last night’s game my buddy who was bent on destroying the Royal Navy went into France a little soft on G1, rolled badly and dix not take it!  No attackers or defenders were left.

Things didnt go so badly for him. Italy took France on I1 and put all the money to good use.  Not the way i would do it but not worth quitting over.

    • RE: G1 options

I have gone soft on the royal navy on G1 only killing that destroyer and some stuff my subs could get to in favor of taking france with overwhelming odds and pushing into……what is that…yugoslavia i think.

    • RE: My Impression of the Game So Far

Dont forget if that brit carrier ends up in the med next to italy the german airforce can sink it on G2. The italians can pretty mucb ignore it and land one transport of folks on africa

    • RE: Color of the Soviets -vs- the Italians

Agreed. I have a bag full of silver painted old style units for my home made 50th Anniversary game i was considering using for italians. The silver goes better with the european axis theme.

Easy to make. I stood a whole country of units up in a shoe box lid and spray primered them twice in a day. Then spray painted them twice the next day.

    • RE: Any After Action Reports Yet?

This game might seem hopeless for either side sometimes but i dont think it is.

The brits must be careful not to fall on G1, 2 or 3 to sea lion. It is a real concern.

Then the germans must decide how to protect their soft underbelly, er italy lol.

The russians can loose 18 inf in a round of combat for a 1 point territory in siberia.

The americans can cost themselves 3 turns if they mess up and loose either eastern or western navy for naught.

The japanese can get side tracked in siberia but that takes pressure off the germans.

This is an interesting game. I think it plays in fewer rounds than most think even though the map is huge

The French landed at Normandy!? Later when i am using a real pc i will have to read up. Playing Onslaught i dont remember them giving me a square French infantry man first turn lol.

Thanks for the tip. Playing war games has gotten me to read more about history. Which was it the war at sea guys sent to to u tube to watch….the Barham getting hit by U331? Think i have the names right.

    • RE: New Players Have Much More to Learn Than When I Started

Lol. I almost forgot about fortress america and shogun. Both are games i like. Zhogun must be played with an agressive group though or else its alot of trying not to eliminate anyone too early.

I usually put the new person on the stronger team in Anniversary or Revised. Agreed Italy is a good option.

    • RE: Any After Action Reports Yet?

its handy to have extra units on the board that move after the opposing team. The french navy can be put in the way of an amphibious landing easy enough. I also leave their inf behind in africa to prevent blitzing when retreating.

Similar to real life the French arent storming the beaches at anzio or normandy but especially when i am playing england we’re not turning down free hel

    • New Players Have Much More to Learn Than When I Started

Besides having more options and greater flexibility this is a considerably more complicated game than the one i learned back in '86!

It is probably balanced out by forums lime this one. Back then my C64 might have had QLink internets but there just were not that many slecialized 600baud message boards lol. We have come a long way.

Never be afraid to ask a question. Sometimes I still get tunnel vision myself reading that rulebook and need clarifications.

I introduced four folks to Axis & Allies with the Anniversary edition, for how many ppl was Europe or Pacific their first Axis & Allies game?

    • RE: Any After Action Reports Yet?

I turned into a J2 or J3 attacker kn Pacific40. Just seemed there was more to do in asia killing chinese and getting to the doorsteps of india.

Most folks just go all out with japan and with plenty of success. Its very difficult to cordinate the multi national forces in the pacific. Makes the US player happier i am sure just to have dice to roll.

In europe i dunno how i will ever get around to attacking the brits or americans. Russia keeps tempting me i to slaughtering their 16 to 18 inf on the first round. I cant resist even though it greatly slows me down in india and china.

    • RE: Taking over unfriendly neutrals on G1?

Agreed. In some ways i am thrilled they just did not copy history. Its fun having a close game.

I am going to print up your files on neutrals for reading while we play.

At theest whoever gets stuck with china will end up being the smartest of us!
