      I try to take what the Russians give me looking for mistakes and chances to slaughter infantry more so than take over Russia.  Sorta like a chess game where you play to get up in piece value instead of really planning a mate.  I might threaten that blitz into Moscow but really I’m just looking to slaughter a medium stack.

      Given the opportunity I will take advantage of the greater German mobility.  Taking Lenningrad one turn with help from my Sealion navy then sliding south.

      If/when Russia turtles back into Moscow I love it!  From previous games I fell in love with sending a dozen German tanks (& now a few mech inf!) into India.  Russia turtles I slide into Stalingrad then further south.  German armor can swing into India and eliminate an allied economy or at least tip the African balance.

      My Germany looks scary offensive but is just preparing to absorb Allied landings and stalling so Japan can run across the board.

      Three is such a ridiculously low number I refuse to believe it!

      Of course I can’t believe there isn’t a $29.99 PC version also.

      Come to think of it I really like this game and can’t believe they got it this balanced with only 3 testings.

      The red dots are a GREAT idea!

      I also used the old school fighters and red but merely painted the wing tips red.  If I make anymore I am going to copy your idea.

      Did you paint silver “+” symbols or mini swastikas on the Germans? My modeling skills aren’t that good.  I might get a “+” to look ok.

      Yeah, I understand also.

      I have played since before the Axis BID days, picking up the mods and rules clarifications at Highschool chess tournaments when only my C64 had message boards.

      Have always thought the different nations were not balanced.  Some players aren’t expansionist enough to play Japan.  Some turtles are best suited as Russia.  Angry attackers sometimes get over anxious as Germany.

      So far I’ve had about 30 great hours playing the new Global game.  When the mods come out I’m sure I’ll try them.

      I am not above strategic bombing.  Just let me know what part of the math I have wrong.

      I believe:
      A bomber survives an AA attack of 1 five out of six times.  
      The average roll or a D6 is 3.5 (1,2,3,4,5,&6 are the possible outcomes.  Each is as likely as another.  Figuring out the odds of any number coming up in craps which uses two die is more interesting)

      Over six turns the bomber does an average of 5 x 3.5 damage.  That is 17.5 IPCs of damage for a 12 IPC loss.

      Throw in “X” number of fighters in defense and the math changes.  A fighter rolling at 2 gets a kill 1/3 of the time.  If you have 2 escort fighters for every 1 defending fighter that evens out.

      Germany IS in a position to do damage to the UK.  Strategic bombing with the damage it causes is really interesting because repairing the damage can be put off.  The damage also caps at 20 (my rule book is away from me so let me know if I’m wrong!) so using more than 3 bombers changes the math since some of the permutations that cause more than 20 damage get discounted.  That formula I need to look up.

      Gimme 3 bombers sitting idly and no fighter defense or 2 to 1 escort odds and either Russia or the UK is likely to get bombed by me though!

      I think italy is very important and think you are onto something.

      As italy i only take gibralter or morocco if america is in position to move through it and into the med. My theory is even if i put four inf and two tanks in gibralter america is landing with ten folks backed up by two carriers full of planes and a few bombers and off shore shots. One guys there is the same speed bump as six.

      I also love destroyer screens to delay landings. My buddy put one in the zone east of gibralter to slow me down then built two more east of italy planning to sacrifice them the next turn.

      America was able to do this leap frog thing sinking them with bombers landing in malta. Made me feel good to use malta lol

      Copy. I can park my navy off the canadian naval base while not at war but i can not use its land territories or the base facilities until america is at war. For that matter if england falls america can not liberate it until something brings the US into the war.

      As america i am perfectly content staging my navy and landing forces in nkrth africa. Gibralter has a naval base so you can threaten everything from norway to italy.

      Still i would rather not loose england.  Havent lost it yet.  Are you all as Germany able to hold it from repeated american landings of maybe five or six full transports?

      The turn order is wrong for germany to make 25 bucks a round for retaking london.

      I play global mostly though. Sorry if there are differences in turn order.

    • Is the US allowed to park its navy off Canada prior to going to war?

      This came up in a game where Germany seemed intent on sealion and America decided it would be prudent to retake london so i am just looking for verification the US can park there.

      In my game i had the american navy and loaded transports in the mid atlantic ready to land anywhere. Figured if the germans attacked me it would cost them in the long run.

      Interesting. I love going after the DEI as japan. Grabbing panama might be another trick to cost the allies a turn.

      Man. I would love to leave at least one carrier and some lower units near japan to take them pricey islands…… If america goes surface ship or even carrier heavy on the east coast this could be annoying.

      There is a time for russia to fall back and wait for help.

      EVENTUALLY the americans will land and tip the balance in the allies favor if all else is equal. So russia can delay. This doesnt mean jusy sit there.

      A good russian player will be able to help his own cause by selectively attacking the germans. Knocking them back a square costs them a turn. Russia can also help the chinese, india and deal with the japanese in siberia.

      Trick is russia has to see where the enemy can move and not get their units trapped away from moscow when the time to defend comes.

    • Italian units in Russia

      Is everyone bringing a couple italian mech infantry and a tank into russia so they can take advantage of opening up a blitz with german tanks and mech infantry?  Italy does not directly make any money off it so two of my oponents havent done so.
      perhaps they think it is gimmiky.

      Just the threat of that might be enough to turtle a russian player and if they dont notice it could win you a couple important squares.

      Did your buddy end up invading alaska? How much did he bring and did he make or have to make the sacrifices to make sure america could not amphibiously land there to take it over or blitz in?

      I am talking about destroyers blocking the inblound sea lanes and another landing in canada to slow any blitzing tanks

      Interesting. England IS spread thin. If the uk has three fighters also they are due one hit a round from the interceptors and one half hit from the complex’s AA on the bombers if you use three bombers. Thats 18 ipc of german damage. Bombers do 3.5 a round….fighters 5ipc…one bomber doesnt get through… 12ipc of damage to england a round, 18ipc lost. I dunno if germany can stand that. Make it six escorting fighters on three defenders and its 17 vs 18.

    • Damaged Carrier & Planes

      Let me see if I understand this right.

      Scenario 1: An American Carrier loaded with an American Fighter and an ANZAC Tactical Bomber is attacked by a Japanese Sub.  If the sub rolls a hit then both planes have 1 movement point to find someplace to land?

      Scenario 2: A British Carrier, a British Fighter from 4 squares away (no movement points left) and a Russian Fighter and a British Destroyer move in to attack two German subs off German Norway.  The British kill the subs with their Fighter and the Destroyer.  The Russian Fighter is along for the ride.  German subs roll snake eyes.  The British choose the Destroyer as a casualty and take a hit on the Carrier.  The Russian plane is then trapped on the Carrier.  The British Fighter can no longer land on a damaged Carrier and has no movement points to choose where to go?

      This move is legal even though the British player “knows” it kills his plane and has other options?

      Scenario 2a: If that British Fighter had 2 movement points left I assume it could use them both to find a landing spot?

    • The most dollars of units I have ever seen in ANZAC

      That is three American Bombers and Three Tactical Bombers in New Zealand.

      Whole thing turned into some strange standoff.

      After Japan landed Australia moved their carrier to NZ and left my Indian planes open to amphibious assault.  Interesting way to give Japan other targets besides their Sydney.

      Of all things Japan backed out and took Celebes while America went to Hawaii to meet up with new naval units and threaten Japan.

      Japan is a great country to play in this game.  You get to decide where to fight.  From the Caroline Islands you can go North South East or West!  Hawaii, DEI, Australia, or to the Homeland to reinforce Siberia with your transports and planes.

      See where his weaknesses are and pounce.  DEI is usually soft but isn’t glamorous like taking Australia, India, or even Hawaii

      I think england is a fun and challenging country to play
