    • RE: Does anyone still play?

      The short answer is yes, just in different venues if you will.  Face to face can be tough to find opponents, Play by email (PBEM) is available on this site.  Another is using personal computer (PC) program originally made on CD now downloadable via the internet.

      The starterpack and a warzone can be found at “ewarzone.com/aa” (sorry I’m not old enough to post links yet). :-P  The program is Classic AA (aka 2nd & 3rd editions) you can play solo, against computer (limited AI) or online in the game lobby (warzone) vs others.

      There’s also a method using e-maps, I’m not to well versed on.  Now days, as you can see on the forums here, the are a plethora a AA versions, each with its own variations.

      According to Classic rules the fighter MUST land in the sea zone it’s currently in (a friendly AC with room) or a friendly island group in same sz or crash into the sea.

      @Gargantua:

      LOL Marked?  You mean MARKED FOR DEATH.

      Maybe so.

      But that doesn’t change the fact as a Colts STH, the only team that I see presenting a bonafide threat to challenge for the conference at this point is the Texans.  IMHO  :roll:

      Besides doesn’t OAK have their hands full with SD & KC.  :-D

      Don’t get me wrong though, I cheered the Silver & Black many a time in my day.  Lamonica to Bilitnikoff,  Hubbard & Banaszak pounding the ball, Blanda, Otto (x2), Upshaw, Tatum, Branch, Villapiano and yes I remember watching a richocheted pass being snatched off the turf after the intended receiver got hammered by the Raider DB, but I don’t want to think about it anymore . . .

      At least they’re back home in OAK again.

    • RE: How do you go about keeping the German Med Fleet alive?

      The MED fleet’s primary function is to get forces to Africa.  This allows Germany to cash in higher and build forces; also to potentially cause UK/US to divert forces from Fin/WE, in order to buy Japan time in their Asian conquest & push to Moscow.

      The fleet will not likely survive long in any event.  Venturing west from the MED will be suicidal most often.  After Africa, it has limited use.  It can support an all out assault on Cau, et al, with naval bombardment and to add Inf from SE/EE?! that otherwise would not reach.

      A mad dash to Brazil or headlong excursion to UK/North/Central American waters to disrupt shuck-shuck momentarily, by striking at a weakness, are other last ditch options.  Otherwise it can sit in WMED trying to lure naval forces out of position or just guard the Ger southern flank.

      It could escape east via the Suez Canal, but I’m not sure what the benefit would be unless UK/US are some how challenging Japan for control of the Pacific.

    • RE: How do you go about keeping the German Med Fleet alive?

      1.  Keep BB & trans in CMED.  That will group your three ships together (buy one trans).  No attack on Egy 'til G2 (shuttle two Inf during NCM to Lib G1).  Let the UK Bmb come solo if he dares.

      2.  Attack UK BB w/ Sub & Fig; attack UK Sub w/ Bmb.  This scenario is one hit BB’s.  The Bmb has better “to hit” than Fig vs Sub.  Your looking for one round battles here, if you up air power in either attack it is at the expense of your attack on UK fleet in NOR.

      3.  Ignore ships in LAB & ECO, you can’t spread your air that thin.

      4.  Carry out NOR attack vs UK(+) fleet, use BAL fleet (if any) & all remaining air.  Obviously whether your using RR or not will impact this.  I don’t think you can ignore UK fleet G1, the question is how much air do you divert to MED attacks and still clear NOR too.

      Bounce over to youtube and search “axis and allies”.

    • RE: Need help getting started again!

      Bill, if your still out there, here’s some basic info.  (Sorry no one bothered to respond earlier, I just recently registered here myself.)

      If your talking about the 1998 A&A CD which uses 2nd & 3rd editions rules, you are in luck.  A couple other web sites are better geared toward that format.  I believe this site is used by predominantly gamers utilizing the board game via face-to-face (F2F), play by forum (PBF) and play by email (PBEM).

      AAWC.org & ewarzone.com both have a patch you can download.  _Plonitus & aqrit have done a ton of work over there to keep the '98 CD alive.  War Zone also is a game host site to play it online.

      There are oodles more A&A options out there, just not so much for the '98 CD players.  As you may have noticed, there is a plethora of mutations of A&A games on the market now with lots of different scenarios, rules variations, etc. giving folks lots of flavors to choose from.

      This is just the tip of the iceberg, I didn’t even touch on the A&A Iron Blitz or A&A RTS CDs.

      @SS:

      I will only say Rush does have the best drummer ever.

      Are you talking Neil Peart or John Rutsey?  (Neither which I have EVER heard of!)

      If you wanna talk drummers, try Joe Vitale. 8-)

      ISTJ

      Lead trait is Thinking, I don’t think that means I get the right answers though!  It just takes me longer to get it wrong.

      I’m like Clint Eastwood, Herbert Hoover, Queen Elizabeth II & Eeyore; what does that mean?

      One of the links described ENTJ’s as Fieldmarshals, go figure.
