    • RE: Can UK deploy in sz3?

      Ok, thanks.

I know it may seem a stupid question, but it’s just very difficult to see on our game board. Perhaps there’s some kind of printing error on it, 'cause it’s like it’s only the edge of the corner that touches the most northern point of Scotland?

    • Can UK deploy in sz3?

      Simple question:

Is sz3 next to UK? Say I buy an aircraft carrier, can I put it there at the end of my turn? I know it’s a dumb question, but our game board is quite unclear about it, and even though I’m quite sure that it does, my damned (I’m losing a game right now) opponent wants proof…

      thnx

    • Spring 42 or december 5., 1941?

      Another stupid nerdy question:

It seems that “Spring 1942” is a bit off… Should be december 1941? The germans are standing on the doorstep of Moscow, but the russians are ready for counter, the japanese are just about to attack Pearl, and the germans are just about to make the final assault on Egypt. The US have not yet invaded French Morroco… Why should it be 1942 and not late 1941?

    • Who's the safe bet?

This has probably been subject of discussion before, but I want to give it another go; Who’s your power of choice? Not the most fun or exciting or challenging power to be, but the most succesful or “safe”? If you had to play for money, would you prefer to be axis or allies? If it was a matter of fun or excitement, (and luckily it usually is) I’d play axis anytime. But it seems allies have a lot better chance of winning usually? I’d say it’s about 70/30 allied favour? … What do you think? Maybe Hobbes and Bunnies will reply also - they seem to have played a few games, maybe they have some statistics they’d like to share?

      Thanks in advance…

    • RE: Med Battleship G1

I didn’t mean that you should completely give up Africa. Germany should almost always try to conquer Africa with the g1 attack on Egypt. My point was that Germany should be very careful about what they spend their money on - and I believe that a battleship in the Mediterranean is just overcommitting. You’ll have to suck up a good deal of IPCs in Africa to balance the expenses on a BB.

      And:

“The German fleet isn’t dedicated to Africa”

In my games that is what happens… I’m not a very experienced player, so perhaps you can help me, but usually my G-fleet becomes isolated in the Med leaving it useless for attacks and a sitting duck just waiting to be blown away by the UK/US.

    • RE: Med Battleship G1

“Plus, you have to take into account the amount of ICs the US and/or UK has to spend to counter this extra battleship.  The Battleship ends up paying for itself.”

I’m not sure I agree with you on that one. I find that the german navy often goes from being a threat (and therefore cost/effective) to being outnumbered and outcornered in just a few rounds. In that sense german battleship build round one is quite expensive and quickly becomes of no value.

In my games (unless UK and US went KJF-kamikaze) the german navy will typically flee into the mediterranean in round two. And if you spend too much ipc to avoid this, you’ll maybe conquer Africa - but on the expense of Eastern Europe, Norway and eventually Berlin…?

It’s the same for me. So perhaps there’s something wrong with both of us.

    • RE: Opening J1 and puchases

It seems to me that it’s quite essential for Japan to take China in J1 to eliminate US figther. In most cases, that will secure Jap transports placed in J1 in the seazone between Manchuria and Japan (dont have the map, so dont know the sz number), cause neither RUS, BRIT or US have anything sea or airborne in range (supposing Japan have dealt with cruiser or whatever in sz59).

It will save some IPCs if Japan doesn’t have to protect transport buys in J1…

Like to hear suggestions on what to do in J1 - in my oppinion Japan is the most difficult power to play because there’s just so many battles to consider.

    • Triple A with Spring 1942 rules?

      Hey

I’m sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else, but is it possible to download a triple a game with spring 1942 rules?

And another Q: Sometimes people in this forum suggests a “forum game” - how does this work? Can you play a&a online somewhere?

Sorry about my lack of technical skill and knowledge  - and thanks in advance!

    • RE: Limits on Western Allies cooperation w/ Russians?

Seems like a very good rule to me - the game would be more accurate that way, but (more important) it would also give the axis just a little bit of help. The way the game is now, it’s just to easy for the allies to support Russia - after round 2 or 3, they can offload a great amount of ground forces in Karelia, and that have been a decisive factor in almost all our games.

    • RE: Allied opening strategy

Should the Axis forces not be able to roll back the russians on the Eastern Front, if the russians by two subs for Black Sea (SZ16) in the first round? If I played Axis and saw that move in R1, I would definately turn my battleship west instead of east in G1 - the battleship is then in a favorable position for a G2 killing of american cruiser and the two transports landing in Algeria. And with Japan having a nice time unopposed in South Eastern Asia and India, they would be going for Moscow in turn 5, wouldn’t they?

I think the two russian sub purchase looks like an “absolute KGF”, that very well could be too unbalanced… My experience with both AA42 and AA Europe is that if you “overdo” a strategy or focus too much on one opponent, you’ll lose the game.

    • RE: Classic first round moves - how to kill allied advantage?

Thanks for the advice. You’re right, german fleet builds in the Baltic Sea sure looks like a bad move - it’s just too expensive.

But what about buying an extra transport for the Med in G1? It looks like a necessary purchase, if you want to defend Algeria and re-retake Egypt in G2 after a british counteroffensive in B1? And Stauffenberg, what vessel would you by to support that transport? A carrier?

Seems a&a '42 is all about the japanese getting to Moscow before the british and american get to Berlin? When you’re used to play A&A Europe, where the germans attack and expands in the first three turns, it’s hard to see them rolled back in this game, just waiting for the japanese aid.

    • Classic first round moves - how to kill allied advantage?

      Hey gamers.

I’d like a short summery of the “normal” or classic round one moves for each power. I guess it’s pretty hard question to answer as the games and strategies vary, but anyway…

I’ve only played '42 a couple of times, and I’m not really certain what to do, so I hope to get some advice from you guys.

Usually our battles form like this:

Axis tries to tire Russia and take Africa in turn 1 (and rarely succeeds), while Allies go for a Kill Germany First strategy (and often succeeds). Overall it seems a bit harder for the axis to win than allies?

      1. turns:

      Russian 1:

Normal buy: 3 armor, 3 inf. 2 inf placed in Russia, rest in Caucassus.

Russia attacks West Russia and Ukraine with all available armor, infantry and the two fighters, and usually only leave one or two inf in Karelia. The sub goes to seazone 2 to join british trans and battleship.

Russia stacks up 5 inf in Buryatia and a single inf in Far East plus two inf in reserve in Yakusk.

      German first round:

      Normal buy varies, but often:
1 transport in the Med along with 1 destroyer to protect it from rus fighters
1 carrier in north sea to guard surface navy here (+ 1 existing fighter form either Norway or Germany.
The rest of the IPCs are spent on infantry to the eastern front.

      German attacks:

      • SZ2 with bomber, fighter and sub. Usually loses sub and sometimes a fighter, but still good value for money…?
      • British destroyer in western Med attacked by three figthers (1 lost at most)
      • British cruiser attacked by battleship and transport and sometimes fighter from Ukraine, if the russians decided to play defensive and only take W. Russia in their turn.
      • Egypt attacked by 2 inf, 2 armor and 1 fighter from Balkan.
      • Karelia attacked by minor force to prevent russian attack on Norway in R2.

In movement phase, Germany tend to withdraw from Belorussia and either Ukraine or Balkan (depending on russian R1 attacks) to stack in Eastern Europe with armor and inf - leaving only 1 inf in these countries to prevent Russian blitz. All fighters are placed in France, Norway and Libya, and one or two of the northern figthers land on new carrier in baltic sea.
The two subs in baltic moves to North Sea or even to the channel.

      British first round:

Brits buy: Must decide if he wants to take back Egypt or build up stronghold in India. If the last option is chosen, he usually buy an industrial complex in India.
Otherwise he try to rebuild his navy in seazone 8 to link with american cruiser, or build up a great air force to attack german surface navy in baltics in B2.

Brit attacks: Sometimes an all in attack on Egypt with 3 inf, cruise bombardment and Indian Ocean figther. That usually works, but leaves India very open to the Japs.
Usually a risky attack on New Guinea, and a sub attack at Solomon Isl. The Australian Navy seems useless, if you don’t use it to attack in round 1 - agree?

Anyway, as I see it, if the Germans haven’t been to unlucky in their turn, the british have to choose between 1) Egypt and a strong airforce, 2) Egypt and a not that strong fleet buy, or 3) Indian IC and a single fighter buy. Difficult choice, but leaving Egypt could be risky? I’d probably choose option 1?

      Japanese first turn:

Japan must choose between a mainland factory or a transporter based army. If the brits decided to give up India and bet on Africa and the Atlantic, I’d go for a factory in South Eastern Asia. Maybe supported by a transport buy or a destroyer or cruiser to counter American marine. Otherwise save money for J2.

Japan attacks China, India and Pearl with whatever in stock. Usually a fighter or sub takes out the brit transport to prevent too many too lucky british attacks in the area.

      American turn 1:

If the brits decided to try and build up navy in SZ8, they could use cruiser support. That move makes an Algerian Attack impossible, unless you want to sacrifice the two transports. Either way, the americans usually builds up navy primarily on eastern coast, carriers, destroyers and transports along with air force.

American attacks: Retaliates at Pearl Harbour, witch usually means that both american and japanese pacific fleets are hit hard after first round. Sometimes go for Africa in round one, sometimes in round 2. Moves bomber to England, preparing to do some strat bombing in later rouds.

From then on, Japs counts on knocking in Russian back door rather than fight the americans in the pacific. The americans go for Africa and a German kill rather than the japs, so the pacific doesn’t really have that much action in the later rounds. Germany tries to hold out until the japanese pressure on russia (hopefully) makes the reds collapse, and the allies count on a solid american navy and airforce combined with a british invasion in Norway, which in time will support Russia properly with armor and inf.

What’s our oppinion on the above scenario? As I mentioned, it seems the allies have the advantage, if the germans aren’t extremely lucky in the first rounds?

    • RE: Playing as Japan

Me and my friends played aa42 for the first time last friday. We weren’t really that much into the tactics when we started, as none of us have played revised more than one or two times (even though its another game, I guess being a pro in revised will help you in the new aa42?).

In the game the british fleet destroyed the japanese off the coast of Borneo in british turn 1.
The brits were really lucky wich the dice and killed the japanese taking only a single hit, but anyway it seemed like a wise move, since it left the southern Pacific wide open. The brits placed a complex in India and some units in the Atlantic.

The japanese decided to stick to the plan and go for the american fleet off the hawaiian coast. That naturally succeded. They purchased a complex for Kwangtun, a transport and a destroyer.

The Americans then destroyed the japanese fleet at hawaii and put a new carrier and figthers along the American western coast.

That left the japanese with almost no fleet already after turn one and more than enough to do just protecting transports around Japan. After turn 1, there was no question about the result of the game, even though the axis managed to hold out for hours of playing.

I just wonder what the japanese fleet should do in turn 1? Is it a typical move in B1 to take the japanese southern fleet? It certainly was a good move for the british in this game…
