what are you all buying for the first two IT turns (obviously 10 for the first one, but let me know what you expect to have earned after IT1, and what you expect that you lost)….this is to help me on the Europe side of the house since I’m still learning Global.

Well if he didn’t join the Nazis, what were you going to do, kill him?

    • What if the Red Baron never died?!?!

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manfred_von_Richthofen

      Specifically,

      Quote
On 6 July 1917, during combat with a formation of F.E.2d two seat fighters of No. 20 Squadron RFC, near Wervicq, Richthofen sustained a serious head wound, causing instant disorientation and temporary partial blindness.[26] He regained consciousness in time to ease the aircraft out of a free-falling spin and executed a rough landing in a field within friendly territory.[30] The injury required multiple surgeries to remove bone splinters from the impact area.[30] The air victory was credited to Captain Donald Cunnell of No. 20, who was killed a few days later. The Red Baron returned to active service (against doctor’s orders) on 25 July,[31] but went on convalescent leave from 5 September to 23 October.[32] His wound is thought to have caused lasting damage, as he later often suffered from post-flight nausea and headaches, as well as a change in temperament. There is even a theory linking this injury with his eventual death.

If this event had never occurred, some theorize, the Red Baron never would have been shot down and killed on 21 April 1918.

And with that said, had the Red Baron -in good health- survived the war, what impact would that have had on WWII?

      Keeping in mind…

On 3 July 1918, Oberleutnant Hermann Göring became JG 1’s third and last commander of the war on 14 July.

      Thoughts?

    • RE: .

I ignore actors on their views…99% lack thinking skills…They feel for “lower man”, yet they escape to exclusive resorts/hideaways…I also blame the “lower man” for following them like hound dogs too…

Jack as the Joker was great! How could you hate? Ok, maybe you are not a big fan of Tim Burton movies, but understand that Nolan has SO MUCH more at his disposal tech wise than Burton ever did.  While I’m a big Bale fan (LOVE American Psycho and the Fighter), Keeton should get a lot of props for how he did as Batman…ok, so he wasn’t a tank like Bale, but who could be (sorry Kilmer, you blew monkey balls), and the first two Batman movies should be recognized for being good.

As for not bringing the Joker back, I think in order to do it properly, they need to find a great Quinn.  And that may be actually a harder thing to do than replacing Ledger…Ledger did a fantastic job, but I think there are other actors out there that could probably put up a similar performance.  But what girl could you consider for Quinn?  You would need to blend the sacrasm of a Sarah Silverman, with the skills of Keira Knightly with an edge like Mara and the body type of Olivia Wilde (tall!).  Can you find that?  Then you can find a sequel with the Joker…happy hunting!

    • RE: Spring 42 Balance Poll

It hurts a lot I think…you deplete the German Air Force, it’s 10x easier for the Allies to invade, that’s why I don’t attack the BB…some people do, I don’t…

But I agree, any loss of a Japanese capital ship or losing German Air Force is critical…that’s why I get selective…since I hit Egypt with a lot as is, if I lose it on a counter by the Brits, it will hurt, but I think the help that it gives Japan, just easily counters the lost (especiallyl next German turn I can get my fighters back to France, where they are needed most.)

Right now though, I am happy beyond belief to not only being able to learn Global, but play it as well…I just wish I would have had Margaritas afterwards!

    • RE: Was the invasion of Okinawa even necessary?

The only reason they didn’t have all of Korea is because we had the other end….the point is, if the bombs failed to operate or failed to convince the Japanese to surrender, the Russians would have made significant gains and had time to send some support that way to aide in the invasion. If an invasion had begun, because of the time frame, it may have not been until late fall or early Spring (It’s very, very cold and blustery there…no fun standing watch outside there, I know from experience).  And the attacks began a full week before the surrender, so if they didn’t fight, it wasn’t due to that…and a lot of the Japanese probably didn’t surrender, they were outflanked, outmanned, outgunned, outsmarted by the Russians in Manchuria…in addition, they probably didn’t have cliffs to throw themselves off of (seen the suicide cliffs in Guam, Saipan, and Okinawa).

    • RE: Was the invasion of Okinawa even necessary?

Couldn’t? You mean not at that point…while they were not as well managed in the Pacific yet, the Soviets made numerous large assaults against Japanese held lands and islands…so to say they couldn’t, is far fetched…it would have been another coridinated assault, with the major powers together invading and capturing Tokyo, and thus dividing it like Berlin/Germany…

    • RE: Was the invasion of Okinawa even necessary?

Declaration of war by the Soviets happened and begun invasion of Manchuria and other positions on Aug 8th (two days prior to Hiroshima, day prior to Nagasaki).  Fighting continued, even after the surrender, but the Soviets would have joined, because for them, it more territory, more global influence, and hinder western democracies.

Unless your opponent has given you a gift, I would 99% of the time say Russia because taking UK or US against good opponents has a less chance of success…besides, when the Axis are making 95 plus IPCs a turn, the Allies will have a hard time rallying.

    • RE: What is your favorite NFL team and why?

While I play the crap out of Fantasy Football, I’m not a football guy.  It’s baseball/hockey #1, then soccer #2.  Football is #3.  I follow players, but if I had to side with a team, it would be the Panthers just out of the pure fact I intend to retire to NC when I get out of the military here in five years.

The more Japanese land that was under US control, the better….agreed that it was necessary in case the bombs failed, or if Japan was going to fight to the last man.  The faster and the more able to take over the main island before Russia could muster its own invasion force would help prevent a divided Japan like that of Germany/Berlin…imagine how the last 60 years would have played out with a divided Japan?

Probably doesn’t help that Isreal ignores treaties and the population builds wherever it wants, forcing the Palestinian further and further out, but I don’t want to get too much into that or we’ll be closed for business.

Saw Hunger Games…it was ok, but it pales in comparison to the great and almighty flick “BATTLE ROYALE”!  Too much commercial decadence in Games, and not enough childeren killing each other…and no boobs either…WTF???

      Avengers was good…Mmmmm…Scar Jo…nuff said.

That’s all I’ve seen…I’m too cheap to go to the theaters…plus I have to save my allowance for Dark Knight Rises (will be disappointed that Anne won’t be naked for this movie…she looked so good in “Love and Other Drugs”, “Havoc”, and the movie we do not speak of…

    • RE: Best Classical Composer?

While I guess they fall in the Classical genre (because Williams actually gets entered into the top 100 with the March of the Empire), I don’t know if this was the initial intent….

But if you had to add people to the list of current composers (besides the correctly mentioned three of Williams, Horner, and Goldsmith), I think Bear McCreary, Hans Zimmer, and Clint Mansell are worthy canidates to be looked at…I guess the first 3 would be one generation and then the second three would be the next generation of worthy composers.

Besides, if you want to dork it out, would you be referring to just the classical era, cause (while there was an overlap), Beethoven and Tchichovsky are in the Romantic era, and would then be ineligible.
