    • RE: 1942 2nd. Ed. Update with Rules for GEN CON

      Ack, w/o knowing the German/Japan/UK Defense (well land for UK anyways), it would be hard to think of buys, but I think as Russia can you really afford a tank anymore? Maybe one off the initial buy, but I would say 5inf/2art,6inf/1tank, 4inf/3art are your only three options w/o more info.  I guess it comes down to what the frontline looks like…

      With the British fleet sure to be gone now for sure in G1, G2, G3, etc, and having to defend India, a CV/2DD is out, and w/o DDs to back up a CV (because the 16 would probably go to India in some way), do you planeport to Russia?  (2FTR, 3Inf {2inf/art}opening buy?) Or is Sealion likely here too?

      I guess the US will have to be the Atlantic fleet, so do you go 1CV for each side and add a plane for US1? That would give you at best CA/DD/CV/2Trans East and DD/BB/CV w/ random sub (I always submerge, so I always have that, unless the DD that was talked about for Japan comes for the ride).

      Japan’s only saving grace is that it’s setup card is huge so that may give it help, but against a complex in India with a Brit territory to provide a meat shield against any blitz?

      AND GREEN CHIPS!

      Great to see the DD protecting the transports for US vice the cruiser (blury on my screen, but is the cruiser by Brazil? Can’t tell)…this greatly reduces my Germany opening move now…

      Russia looks like it’s all into Moscow, I worry what is on that German Front (looks small on the west side)…

      Is that, could that, would it be a complex in India?  Oh, Moscow may be screwed but Japan is now under lots and lots of pressure to bail out Germany if it’s even feasible now.

    • RE: AirCraft Carrier in Hawaiin Waters, Why?

      the carriers operated around Hawaii though, so don’t assume the SZ goes out to the 12NM pt and stops there…considering Hawaii itself is over 1200 miles in length (island chain).  And since this is spring 42, coral sea hasn’t happened yet (yes, I do realize May is in Spring, but let’s say it’s March/April), and the carrier fleet would be on its way…but if you wan’t historical, don’t play the game because SPOILER ALERT  Allies win…if you want to be historical…

      @Cow:

      You don’t want the dice in my hands. I live in Hawaii so, I can’t do these face to face games. Someday I’ll fly over and it would be a most baller experience.

      Damn, I wish I would have been on here sooner, could have played against you when I spent the last 3-4 years there…

    • Halo 4

      Played mulitplayer demo @ ComicCon…couldn’t get a hold of my baby (the sword) during the game, but sure did rack up a lot of kills (when I wasn’t goofing off on the warthogs)…definitely well worth the 1 hour in line (especially since our team won!).  Can’t wait for the release…

      @Der:

      That’s when you really need an atomic bomb in this game.  :-)

      I remember many Comand and Conquer Red Alert games ending this way!

      These were the ones I saw the most, and saw people played different ways…if there are other situations, add them in.

      I play to the last man because it’s very straightforward and gets to the point…
      I like the straits being closed because it opens up Russia options for opening moves.
      Capitals producing unlimited favors Germany the most, because they don’t have to worry about Italy’s IC at all, but I play either way.
      Never played 42 with tech, but I can imagine how disasterous it could be to shift the balance of power so easily.

      I would say the only reason to have your planes out of France would be if they are in a KJF mode (with the exception of a FTR in Germany for IB protection.

      @Imperious:

      Definitely the USS Missouri. About 1,000 yards away is the Arizona.

      Lastly, they got a military museum in Waikiki. Gift shop highly recommended

      Re-enlisted on the Arizona….nice, but too 70ish for me…if you can get on base, the Parche memorial, the Subbase Chapel, with meeting the subvets is pretty neat, and Punchbowl is always nice to go to…

    • RE: US pacific strategy

      Completely agree with Hobbes on this…It’s a waste of resources and lost of objectivity if they go for Alaska…If I was US, I would always hope that Japan will take its eye off the ball (the fall of India and Russia).  The less troops in Asia, the better chances a counter to the German advance. I also agree it should be pretty much all in on either side naval wise.  There’s really no point to build anything Pacific if you have no intention of going after the Japanese fleet.  They can bottle up their fleet in one locale and pour troops into Asia/and have an IC to go with it.

      Curious to see what Hobbes will say, but I would say go all out Pacific if Japan goes all out on Pearl and leaves it in bad position to reattack Pearl J2 (which would often be the case if it goes all out).  I would submerge my sub (save it for the counter), and then use every plane, the sub, and BB to erradicate the remaining Japanese fleet at Pearl…or if you didn’t do any damage in your defense, withdrawl the sub and DD to LA and build a CV w/2FTR and an additional DD (for 42) (This gives you 2DD,BB,SS,CV w/2F, plus a reserve of FTRs and the BMB).  That should retreat the Japanese fleet pretty quick.  From there on out it should be a combo of DD/SS and transports with troops to take every island from those dirty Japanese.  You’re buys should prevent/minimize any troops in Asia and protect the Russian front.  And if you want to be even more all out, reverse the KGF strat, and bring the CA and Transport from the Atlantic to the Pacific…But England and Russia need to set the stage first. (Protect India/hit Borneo/New Guinea and the Japanese transport with the Carrier to properly divide the Japanese fleet.  UK should distract Germany enough to slow the advance.
