    • RE: Other Axis and Allies Games

OK, this probably wouldn’t work, but what if they made a game combining WW1 and WW2? It would be a monster, and about 500 times more complicated, but think how cool would it be. You would have an end of WW1 (perhaps based on Flashman’s morale track), a few turns to rebuild and improve tech, and start WW2. Like I said. this most likely wouldn’t work, but it would be so much fun to play.
      Some major issues:
-How to represent going from WW1 tech to WW2 tech
-How to handle the end of WW1 and the start of WW2
-How to handles Germany’s rise to power before WW2 (because no allied player would actually let Germany take Austria, etc.)
-What if the CPs win WW1?
-It would be REALLY boring to play Japan during the first half of the game
-Collapse (or possible non collapse) of AH and Ottoman empires
      -Great Depression
-The game would take weeks to play (Like that’s ever been an issue?)

So it’s pretty clear it would never work. Maybe if we locked Larry in a small room with nothing else to work on for 10 years?

      American civil war
      War of 1812
Something based off of the 100 years war
War of the triple alliance (1864-70)
I would love to see a game that pits Rome vs. Carthage
Naturally, if these were made they would still be called Axis & Allies  :-D

    • RE: Ottomans first strategy

I think limiting UK production in India is a good idea, but I have a suggestion. Allow naval production in India to represent Australian and Japanese ships. Perhaps not dreadnaughts, but it would help UK to build a transport fleet giving them the choice not to attack Persia and still fight the Ottomans. I think this would only work with a production limit though. Otherwise there’s nothing to stop the Brits from building a huge navy every turn. This would help out the Ottoman first strategy.

    • RE: Rate AA1914

They will almost certainly come out with a 2nd edition. The 100th anniversary is next year so they rushed this one so they could come out with a new one. The 2nd edition will hopefully have:
      -better playtesting
      -more sculpts
      -decent RR rules
      -better quality
And all for the same amount of money.

Let’s just all agree that you couldn’t trust anyone in Europe before or during WW1.

I think he’s saying the 1914 Italians look like 1940 Japanese. I don’t see how confusing 1940 Italians and Japanese would be an issue as they’re on other sides of the board.

Nobody trusted Venice in the Middle Ages either. They were always trading and allying with every bodies enamies.

    • RE: Game Board Frustration

I think the Western European territories are small to represent how slow things moved on the Western front. The fighting in Russia speed across vast areas so the territories are larger. This makes sense for land troops, but the problem is when a fighter can travel twice as far in Russia as in France. The neutral territories are large for simplicity.

I was hoping for discussing the actual topic but there’s no hope of that. Nevermind

Can we please get back on topic? Discuss US entry somewhere else.

    • RE: Why is Italy an allied power?

I could accept that Italy might have switched sides after a German victory against France. But, this should not be included in this game. If Paris is captured things are already looking bleak for the allies. If Italy joins the Central Powers immediately after, there is no chance for an allied victory. It might be historical but no one would want to play the game.

    • RE: Why is Italy an allied power?

Historically, Italy didn’t fight with the central powers because they were the aggressors. So, any game that allows Italy to join the CPs is unhistorical because Austria Hungary has to attack Serbia. The best thing is just have Italy be neutral until turn 2 unless attacked before then. The rule about the mandatory Serbian attack could be changed, but then neither side would attack and it would turn into a continued arms race. It would be interesting to play Italy with the Central Powers, but the same way as a British alliance with Germany. Fun to play, but little historical accuracy.

    • RE: Austrian Strategies

Why? Italy can’t attack you and you are busy wiping out other enemies. Bu waiting, Austria can hit Italy with overwhelming force.

    • RE: Austrian Strategies

How long can you keep up that strategy before the Russians roll all over your defenses? Austria Hungary can’t afford to open up multiple fronts for multiple turns. I say to use overwhelming force to hit the allies one at a time. Of course this would be better with rails, but it’s still better than being forced to keep 3 or 4 fronts open.

    • RE: Spain

I don’t think the US can afford to fight the 8 troops Spain can produce. Those US troops would be much more useful on the Western front or pretty much anywhere other than Spain.
