    • RE: Convoy disruption zones

      I am currently playing my first game with the alpha 3 rule set.  We are not far along enough to have disruptions be an issue yet.  But I still don’t see how it makes sense to have disruption zones on the western side of the island when Germany controls London.  Wouldn’t their supply lines travel from Europe to the UK?

      I was including Normandy and Norway too.  The only zones in question were the ones next to Scotland and England.

    • Convoy disruption zones

      We had a game recently where Germany took London and the German players strategy was to hold London for as long as possible to force the US to choose a theater and hopefully wait out a victory for Japan.  The US player attempted to liberate London and in the process used convoy disruption(alpha 2 rules) as an economic tactic.  The German player made a valid point after losing close to 12 ipcs a turn that the disruption zones on the western side of UK really don’t make sense if Germany occupies London.  They should switch to the other side of the island.  So we had a discussion on disruption zones and the possibility of having them be country specific or “float” depending on certain factors.  Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts were on this.  Thanks!

      What happens to the UK major IC if London is captured and the factory already has damage on it?  Does it downgrade to a mi nor IC with or without damage?  Same question for naval and air bases?  Thanks!

    • RE: -A Painting Tutorial and Resource for A&A Global-

      Great job Spitfire!  Really cool idea and i love the pics.  Just a couple things I have learned painting.  I also use the acrylics and I have found that after washing the pieces a light primer coat helps a lot.  My pieces get a lot of handling and peeling was always an issue.  I don’t use the infantry pieces from the game so when I buy unique infantry sets to paint sometimes I get variations in the plastic used so a primer coat is a must.  I also use a matte clear coat to protect. (sometimes 2 coats)  I have found Krylon is the best.  I love to use the pieces when we play but some people don’t like them when we play.  They say its to hard to distinguish the different powers.  So when planning a paint scheme maybe take this into consideration.  I don’t always go for the authentic look.  I like to have a scheme that is easily recognizable and cool to look at.  And most of all have fun doing it!!  I also run into problems with storage.  As of now I store all my painted pieces with the regular ones in the boxes from Global.  I have the boxes compartmentalized into unit type but I find that the outer extremities of the infantry (guns, arm, hands etc) tend to peel more easily.  Any suggestions for storage I am all ears.  Keep up the good work!

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      My gaming group has some questions about attacking subs and transports.  I think I have the rules understood. I just need some clarification to pass on to my group.
      1.) It is my understanding that during the combat move phase subs and transports do not block naval movement?

      2.) In addition you can choose to move some forces through a sea zone containing either a sub or a transport as well as allocating some of those forces to attack said transport or sub?

      3.) An enemy sub or transport in a sz does not prevent loading or offloading of your transports?  (Unless your transport is unloading and not accompanied by warships and there is an enemy sub present)

      4.) If you attack a transport or sub in a sz it does negate any offshore bombardments if there is an amphibious assault taking place?

      Please let me know what I have right and wrong and anything you can think of that I may have missed so I can clearly and finally settle a nagging part of the gameplay that slows us down alot.  Thanks everybody!

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      We need a rules clarification for a current game.
      Germany ended their turn with a navy in sz114 (with destroyer present)
      Russia ended their turn by moving the Baltic sub into sz114 in the non combat phase.

      The question is:
      1.  Was that a legal move?
      2. On Germany’s next turn can they load transports in sz114 for an amphibious assault on Novgorod and also attack the sub in sz114 with the destroyer and planes?

      Thanks!

    • RE: My Allied Strategy for UK & US

      @Clyde85:

      Grasshopper, I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of/tried the “fortress DIE” strat? In short it has the ANZAC grabbing one of the DEI islands, usually Java (I think), on their first turn and then building an airbase on it on their second turn. The idea, as near as I can tell, is to then have the UK Indian forces land more troops and the US fly airforces there to try and keep the Japanese tied up in the DEI longer and keep them from geting the NO associated with it. Do you think an idea like this would work well with your over all blue print put forward here?

      We actually tried this in one game.  I don’t remember all the details but we had mixture of ANZAC and UK airforce on Java with inf and the Air base.The navy was a mix of UK and ANZAC in the seazone with the US in striking distance.  I remember it being taken out fairly easy by the Japanese but what it did accomplish was a heavy distraction for Japan.  They were constantly out of position and were soon taken out.  Could of been the skill of the player and never seeing that before that led to the demise but it was an interesting way to go.

      Grasshopper, I totally agree with your American Navy strategy I love to use it as a hunter/killer force seems to work great.  My question for you is how does this strategy pan out for you if Germany has a successful sealion?  My problem with the Pacific navy build is every time i do it sealion is always successful and i have to run and save the UK.  I guess i just have bad luck.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      I have read about people taking Brazil with ANZAC.  My question is what turn is the earliest you can do this?  By movement alone it takes 2 turns but I guess I am unclear what ANZACs status is regarding taking pro-allied territories.  Thanks.

    • RE: AA guns under alpha 3 rules

      Say you have 2 AA guns and 2 Strat bombers, 1 tac bomber and 1 fighter attacking.  Would you roll the dice separately for each type of plane?  Or roll all 5 dice at once and defender chooses casualties.  We always gave the choice to the attacker how they would like to roll.  Just wondering if that is okay or the rules state it differently.  Thanks.

    • RE: How to take care of the 18 Russian infantry on the Pacific Map

      Young Grasshopper is right!  Attack them early and push them back.  I have found that 8-10 inf and 2-3 fighters is more than enough to stalemate a wise Russian player.  But don’t get greedy is right!  You can run out of steam real quick.  Also if the Russian player doesn’t consolidate those forces R1 attack them always. It is totally worth it, I have found that those 18 inf can disrupt a great game plan by Japan every time!  Good luck!

      CWO Marc,

      Thanks for the info.   Those are some cool pieces!

      @gsh34:

      Personally I like it.  The only problem I can see is that some of the territories that air bases are placed on are so small that it can be nice to have the flat cardboard marker instead so other units can just sit on top of them.

      I agree.  But we kept running into the problem of people not seeing where air bases were because of units stacked there.  I play with a bunch of guys who have the attention span of a dog!

    • Looking for feedback

      Hi all,
      I came up with an idea for a 3D version of an Air Base.  I hate those cardboard markers.  Over the past year I have been slowly customizing my edition of Global.  I have painted pieces, magnetic carriers, and other cool stuff that makes my game unique.  I was wondering what everyone thought of my Air base piece.  I took a city piece from Risk and cut away one of the towers and then to show a little love for the game that started this obsession I used a fighter from the original version and glued it on top.  I then painted it white.  Just looking for some feedback, likes , dislikes, improvements that sort of thing.  Also if anyone has an idea for a naval base please let me know.  Thanks everyone and keep on conquering the world one IPC at a time!

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      We had situation arise in a game where a destroyer and cruiser were together in the same SZ.  An enemy sub was in an adjacent SZ. And adjacent to the sub’s SZ was an enemy transport all alone.  Question was can the cruiser sail past the sub to kill the undefended transport as the destroyer stays and fights the sub with air support?  Our conclusion was that if you chose to fight the sub then you couldn’t also choose to ignore it.  Was this correct?

    • RE: Sealion in three turns, Major flaw with Alpha 2

      @Commando:

      I agree JimmyHat. And I’d like to add, if the US is played right and Germany does a successful SeaLion. The US can take the UK back on Turn 4 in almost all cases, unless the German players put ALL it’s efforts into defending the UK, in which case Russia steam rolls Germany.

      With a good German player expecting to to take London I see it very difficult for the US to take back London on turn 4.  At least that has been the case in all my games.

    • RE: Thoughts on Industrial Complexes

      I agree why would china need to build at an IC?  That takes away from their ability to pop up in any rice paddy they choose.  With China having an IC it just becomes a bigger target for Japan to attack.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      We had a battle the other day where a plane used all it moves to make it to the sz but a carrier from another sz was also participating in the battle so it was demonstrated that the plane had a place to land.  The question was can you lose the carrier in the battle before the plane?  My opponent called that a suicide attack, but to me I had demonstrated a place for the plane to land no matter how unlikely.  Does this demonstration of landing occur once or after every round of rolling dice?  Thanks!
