OOB - out of box. The set-up and rules from the box game. Since its release, the rules/set up have gone through 3 major adjustments by larry harris. I think the final revesion was like 7 years ago. Since then certain strategies have been developed that make it next to impossible for the allies to win. We are playing OOB. The bid range is high 30’s to low 50’s for the allies in this iteration.
Since then, various people have come up with ways to balance the game. BM3, created on triplea is the most popular on this site, though i see a new version, with a new map, being play tested.
I would love another game - but I encourage you to try axis. It will help you “think like the enemy,” becoming a better allies player.
Thank you for the compliment, but i have to tell you - while my tatics might be pretty good, my strategy needs a lot of work. Iam getting bmy but hamded to me by another player right now in another game. I too have a LOT to learn. -

Do over. About the neutrals - no. Mo golia basically becomes russian if japan attacks a russian territory adjacent to a mongolia territory. All other tue neutrals remain true neutrals. You mentioned you brought the game with you - mongolia has a special section in the rule book all to its self.
As far as aus - dont read too much into it. 2 inf. A spoiling attack. Here is a great cheap lesson. Sometimes a small attack in an undefended area is perfect. This doesnt directly advance japan’s goals - but it forces anzac to deal with it, rather than make progress somewhere else. Sets them back a turn - or at least, sets some units back for a turn.
Even knowing its a spoiling attack doesnt change the fact you cant ignorw it. Its like taking kenya I1. Uk has to go out off position to deal with, but they have to do it -

You are going to take the carolines. Nothing i can do about that. Anzac is about to convoy the crap out of me. Or make SZ 33 an insurmountable fortress, followed by convoying. I bought too many facilities for a J2, instead of another carrier or 2 that is needed. Should have stuck with J3 instead of reacting. I’m posting to myself like trulpen in the learning game. My wife is commenting on my comments and muttering. Consolidation is needed in china.If i air drop vodka in Yakut, maybe those pesky russians will move and make my life easier.

Your analysis with Bryansk is correct. My stack was moved there to prevent/deter a counter attack. Similar to what happened in china. Attacking your stack next turn would not be wise for the germans.
The odds g vs r and r vs g right now greatly favour the defender, regardless who. -

This is how i see it. If you don’t mind sharing your general view of things.
I find my self in a dangerous position in europe - you have the initiative, and the positional advantage. I am reacting to you. Trying to figure out how to change that. My position seems salvageable. Question is do i have the experience (or an eureka moment) to do so.In the pacific - it seems more balanced. You’re gaining on the head start japan gets, rapidly. I have to stop that. But i still have the initiative.

Agree with the bid. I have the physical game, but havent played it with anyone but my 7y/o son due to the virus. That’s when i found this site. I lurked for 3 months before playing. Downloaded and read a lot of other people’s games. I think that gave me a running start. I saw most people play the balance mod, as the bid for OOB is in the 30’s and 40’s, while in the BM3 its between 10-20. But same as you - with really no game play, you cant conceptualize why the bids are what they are. Just starting to learn that one.
Your reaction to the german drive was what mine was vis a vis the japanese air force. My first game i was in such awe of what all those planes can do, and how much space they can cover - and its hard to keep track of it.
The battle calculator is key. So is playing the game in local mode to test things. I use both before i move. With out a lot of experience, doing so reveals a lot of what is obvious to a vetern player, because a newbie, you cant picture it in your head very well.
And i agree about flying. Used to have to do it a lot, and hated it, and have successfully avoided it for almost a decade.
