      @wizmark
      That yunan scenerio is exactly what I was aiming for.
      And yes - the fighters that were for the scramble were to come from kwangsi. I just forgot about that when I was trying to figure out how to reinforce Manchuria.

      Lastly - yep. They are already very unhappy. The italians have switched from wine to beer in hopes of blending in with the anglo saxon invaders!

    • RE: The Japan Playbook

      @colonel-ace said in The Japan Playbook:

      The goal is not to put pressure on Calcutta or ANZAC its to be able to take major British factories putting pressure on Germany and Italy and allowing the axis forces in to the Middle East

      How do you plan to get Japan into the middle east without taking, or at least pressuring , India?

      What other UK factories are you trying to capture? A minor in persia? or are there others.

      Re Caroline Islands:

      Do they increase you IPC’s? No. Worthless, FAR from it.

      Control of them is worth a lot. The airbase and the harbor in conjunction with the location makes it a very valuable territory. From there, Japan can strike Midway, Wake, Hawaii, New Zealand, Queensland, FIC, Philippines, and all the money islands sans Sumatra. And can easily be re-enforced from Japan.

      If held by the allies, they can strike all the above, plus the Chinese mainland, Japan, and Korea.

      It is does not make logical, pratical, or strategic sense - but I really, really, really want to destroy that fighter in Guam.

      This is the short general idea version, missing details.

      If you get around to downloading tripleA, PM me, and we can just play test through round 4, repeatedly, to help you with some counters.

      You are going to take the carolines. Nothing i can do about that. Anzac is about to convoy the crap out of me. Or make SZ 33 an insurmountable fortress, followed by convoying. I bought too many facilities for a J2, instead of another carrier or 2 that is needed. Should have stuck with J3 instead of reacting. I’m posting to myself like trulpen in the learning game. My wife is commenting on my comments and muttering. Consolidation is needed in china.

      If i air drop vodka in Yakut, maybe those pesky russians will move and make my life easier.

      barnee will chime in, and knows far more about the community than I, but I have used monopoy money. I scrounge as I am a frugal MFer. I use change for chips ( as my change jar always seems to have way more than I need).

      And while I think there are some print shops for the NO cards, you can always print your own, slap the sheet on some paper board, and get them laminated.

      Not flashy, but works.

    • RE: We need an allied playbook.

      @Argothair
      I understand the value of gib, Caroline’s, etc. but they are 1 and 2 turns from a factory. Which brings me to my question.

      The game that I had that brought it to the fore had a large allied fleet off gib, with tt’s and an army, but the US buy was a little odd, only a little, but it caught my eye and when I stepped back and looked, I was able to ascertain with confidence where they were planning on going from gib when said units got into position.

      And in that case, I let them, even to my slight detriment in other theatres, purposefully changing my plans to not spook them, not block them fully, while carefully setting up a left uppercut. Which is much easier to do as the axis as the purchases are centrally placed to begin with.

      I hear your point in generic purchases, but wouldn’t that lead to the same destination - an axis player knowing you are following a formula, and this have limited formulaic options/plans?

    • RE: Strategic bombing and escorts. How does a raid work?

      @Gerry
      Sending the escorts not only gives you the option of losing a lower value unit as a casualty, it also allows you to ensure the bombers don’t get shot down, thus preventing them from dropping bombs, and allows more chances to shoot down your opponent’s air. Every PIP is a PIP.

      4 Bombers vs 4 intercepting figs - 4 @1 vs 4 @1
      4 Bombers 2 escorts v 4 intercepts - 6@1 v 4@1

      And if he hits 3, you still have 3 bombers going on to their targets. Extrapolate this out:

      4 bombers 6 escorts vs 4 interceptors: 10@1 v 4@1
      No bomber will be lost against the interceptors, and a very good chance of shooting down 2 interceptors, furthering your advantage against your opponent.

    • RE: Strategic bombing and escorts. How does a raid work?

      @Gerry said in Strategic bombing and escorts. Hoe does a raid work?:

      @mainah Thx. But then these fighters cannot be deployed to another battle.

      That is true. So you need to weigh your options. Every turn in every game is different.

      The price difference seems small to me (10 vs 12 ipc).

      Same as a mech v tank. But 2ipc per unit over the course of a game can be a 100ipc difference, or an additional 30 inf and 10 art on the field.

      It seems more useful to use multiple bombers (as long as the possible interceptors are the same amount or less then the number of bombers).

      If they are available. And again - without interceptors, the bombers now have twice the odds of being shot down, with the result of no bombs dropped. A fig as a casualty means the bomber has a 5/6 chance to beat AA and drop bombs. A intercepted bomber that gets hit has a 0/6 chance of dropping bombs.

      At what point should you refrain from strategic bombing with regard to number of interceptors?

      I would be wary of bombing with a less than 3 bombers more than they had figs without escort.

      Interceptors are only fighters or also tactical bombers?

      Figs only.

      Prototypes always cost more. Production run get cheaper per unit, especially by the 4th.
      And its an investment. They can do the hard chores as you both age. And take care of you when you are old. Probably more profitable in long run to keep 3 at home.

      Unless you live in a city. Then maybe the ROI isn’t that good, and checking out current market rate might have its advantages.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

      @WindowWasher
      Really? Well - it is a turn early, so it came out piecemeal and discombobulated; and as it is such a desperate long short grab, you dont really look for it. I guess that’s how it snuck by you. That discombobulation is what led you to strike the wrong target. I’m going to chock it mostly up to luck if this pans out.

      I editted out my CA as I was planning on ignoreing your sub, but I forgot about how the scramble option fits into that. Not really going to matter… Japan will pull it off, or not. Next turn.
