Russia is technically in the Axis until G4 if no aggression takes place, I have a problem with UK units being able to land in Russian territories before then and vice versa.

RE: G1 Major Fact In Romania
S France only has 2 units defending at a 2. You can get 2 armor there.
Kicking it around as a jumping off point for an axis strat that isn’t being attempted yet. I like the ideas of infantry and transports that can pour out of that fact on G2, cutting off a turn of commute to stalingrad. Perhaps a G3.

G1 Major Fact In Romania
G1. Take all 3 French Territories in Europe. Place Major IC in Romania. Turn 2 should give you ~60 IPCs to build for a southern thrust….
Of course you have to work on the UK navy and take the pro axis neutrals…

RE: After Three Games of Global
looks at the thing on the wall with the dates on it.
I’ve had my copy of Europe since August 21st. It’s now October 25th. Hardly 4 weeks as you suggested.
P40 OOB, Broken. Almost a year later and they are still kicking around the “alpha” setup to fix it.
The same people who brought us that gem brought us the G40 setup.I love that you are playing around with this strat, that strat etc and not just admitting defeat like our group has now after roughly 8 weeks of play. We WANT you to succeed. PLEASE. PROVE. ME. WRONG!!!
Make this game be not a waste of $$$$
Unfortunately I’ve found on this planet, that your first instinct is usually the best. Hate my posts? I don’t give the replacement tac bombers that WOTC sent me for P40 which all came with missing (broken) wheels. I doubt you’d by my first choice to the dance either buddy. But like it or not, more and more people are seeing that the game favors the Allies, in either setup. :sad face:

RE: Best timing for German -> Russia attack & Japan -> Russia/Allies attack
I think the problem is we aren’t seeing enough games that end up as axis wins where the level of players on both sides is consistent, and there wasn’t a horrible blunder by the allied player. Hard to say I attacked G2 and won because…when the guy playing anzac turtled the whole game and the US didn’t put any pressure on Europe, etc.

RE: Alternate 1942 setup?
then work on it?
port the spring 42 setup over to the g40 board and have at it.

RE: After Three Games of Global
Since that’s what I’m famous (infamous ) for, I’ll say it.
G40 is broken. Just like P40 was OOB.
Until you show me a consistent Axis strat that can lead to victory with the starting setup and even more especially, the Alpha P40 setup which people think makes the G40 setup more even…
Then I will counter with the game is very set piece. Do this G1 etc. The game is broken to me in that there is little room for Axis flexibility if you want to win. Relying on hot dice to win as axis is not a balanced game.

RE: Triple A is AWESOME
again, I would check the version you have and post any bugs you can report. not knowing about them won’t get them fixed.

RE: America in the Middle East
germany fainted sealion (horrid sea rolls turn 1, kept most of my fleet)

RE: America in the Middle East
Used this last night with UK. Grabbed Persia UK2 and dropped a minor in there. Nothing like UK Europe money pumping in 1 turn away to stop Japan.

RE: Aleutian Islands
You know, it’s bad enough that they called the space United Kingdom when it should have been England….but can you explain to me how someone can walk from Ireland to Scotland?
Strategically insignifigant, but it still sours me on the way this game was put together.

RE: Global Strats- my view
@special:
Long term, the game is balanced towards the Allies, as it should be.
Axis have the advantage of speed and they have to do their stuff before the Allies (USA) becomes too big to crush them. That is why there is a number of victory cities to get in order to win.
In that way, the game is balanced
I don’t get the “as it should be” angle. If we want the outcome to be historically accurate, then let me save you the rolls. USA! USA! USA! Queue the nurse getting kissed for Life magazine….and…setup the cold war.
I’ve always felt that the dice rolls were representative of weather/terrain/any random factor that could influence a battle, and THAT was what made these games fun and balanced. You shouldn’t have to RELY on them to go overwhelmingly in your favor to have a chance at winning. That’s what it comes down to in G40 as axis. You need great dice, fast, or you’re done.
On a long enough timeline, the allies win…that’s super. +1 for realism. now can we have a GAME please?

RE: Global Strats- my view
holy christ I am grateful to read something from a Michigan fan??!
someone on here agrees with my most hated opinion that the game is unbalanced? I pity you comrade, for now the wrath of the zealots will decend upon you like the Iowa D-Line on Denard!
Go Bucks!

RE: 3 thoughts to slow the allies
Not sure you could hold it, plus it’s 2 turns from sz6 to L.A., more than enough time to scramble more defense from E.US. you bite off more than you can chew with that and the UK/ANZAC have a warm, empty bathtub to play in called the S. Pacific for a very long time.
We were doing a little after action the other day, trying to come up with ways to balance the game out. Again, this is OUR opinion, but we’ve played quite a few games of global in our group, switching players etc, and just like P40 was to us, the game is stacked to one side.
If you don’t agree, play the OOB or Alpha and enjoy it. In fact, IF you DON’T agree that the game is UNBALANCED, I would ask you to keep that to yourself in any replies. This is me asking for any suggestions anyone has come up with to make the field more level, and offering up the ones we came up with on the quick.

RE: 3 thoughts to slow the allies
Regardless of what Japan does on J1, US only gets +10. J1 attack, +10/20/30 for US1/2/3 collect. Yes this helps the US if there’s no J1, but from our games we feel a J1 is needed, at the least on some UK possessions.
We were also thinking that if this doesn’t even it out enough, we would toy with the US getting no NO money until turn 4 (the standard 30 of course) regardless of a J1/2 attack.
-
RE: 3 thoughts to slow the allies
sorry, I should have pointed out that the US ramp up would free japan to attack anywhere on J1 without giving the us a boost of 30. A J1 attack now cuts 30 IPCs from the US over those 3 turns.

RE: 3 thoughts to slow the allies
every game would assume no bad dice, I don’t want to live in your vanilla reality :)
not sure this is a bad thing, apparently sea lion doesn’t win the game for axis in the oob setup, maybe this would do it, or at least slow the US down enough to come dig the germans out.
again, these are just options we’ve come up with as house rule ideas, it doesn’t all have to be from the Tao of Larry and his alpha setup. We don’t think that IPC / TUV balancing alone will do it, we are toying with subtle rules mods.

3 thoughts to slow the allies
1) all factories for all nations start as minors
2) the US doesn’t get its NO until collect income US4
3) the US’s NO ramps up. 0 turn 1, 10 turn 2 until it reaches and holds at 30 turn 4.
These are options my group is kicking around for our next games.
