In Jan '42 the aussies whooped up on the japs near Gemas, Malaya. Lost about 80 of their guys at the cost of 1000+ jap soldiers. Not a bad ratio, hell of an ambush. So for historical accuracy they put an anzac inf in malaya. Between that and the molding of a mosquito for UK/Anzac tac bomber, about the only things WOTC got right :)

REALLY wish the pac40 triplea map was finished.

RE: US income questionposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Just to clarify, on a J1 attack, the US gets +40 at the end of turn. You still only have 17 to spend on US1 no matter what happens.

RE: US 3rd turn attackposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Correct, you get the $ at the END of turn 3. You can’t attack until turn 4 unless Japan kicks it off early.

the destroyers are smaller? Except for Russian destroyers which are the size of Allied battleships. :)

we paid them $90, they owe us the correct items.

Tell me again why these games should favor one side or the other? If Allies are favored in them for “history’s sake” then why play them at all?

RE: Dutch Territory Questionposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Last time I checked (unless the rules have changed again) for the UK to take DEI it has to be done during NONCOMBAT. So as long as Japan and UK are not at war, you can non combat into the sea square and land royal marines all you like. So you can’t block the british fleet as you propose…though you could just sink their BB and LC’s on J1 with 2 bombers and a fighter :)

Here’s what I mean. If you are willing to lose planes (4th commandment of A&A has always been do not use planes as soakers, I know!) then you can run over the mainland of Asia.
We have a game going right now. I think we’re in turn 6, it might be 7 and Japan is earning 75 a turn. Japan has a fleet sitting at the Phils consisting of 6 CVs with 6 of each plane, 3 BBs, 2 CAs, and 14DDs. There is NOTHING that can be done against that by the US/ANZAC who are earning 65. I could care less that the US has a Fleet of 3 CVs, 3 BBs, 1CA and 18DDs sitting in Queensland. I’m making 10 more per turn. I can dump 7 zeros and an infantry down in the homeland if he thinks about heading north, and my fleet can cut his off. Again, Japan is making 75, US 55, ANZAC 10. This is not “atypical” for a game around these parts.

if you look at the top post in this forum you will see rulebook updates. plus the starting setup for the game is wrong. make sure you take note.

RE: J1 attack very tough on alliesposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I’ll say this again. If you play AGGRESSIVE, there is no reason NOT to attack on J1. Someone link me to a perfect version of the starting map in abattle or whatever it’s called and everything I need to use it, and I’d LOVE to talk strats (Vareel, I’m talking to you)

Also, look around and see if you can find a cheap copy of A&A Spring 1942 edition. Better starting point than Pacific 40 since this game is broken. Or at the least, the rulebook and setup you got in your copy is broken, if not the overall game balance.

yeah, we should get this. we won’t.

RE: J1 attack very tough on alliesposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
honestly, Japan doesn’t need to do more than trade ships. Soon they be out producing the allies. Right now we have a game going where Japan is making 75 a turn, not a big deal that US is making 55. That’s an extra battleship per turn.

how you are taking DEI on US3 with the LC in Hawaii dead on J1.

RE: Ok We Give Upposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I don’t have the board in front of me, so bear with me. I’m not getting how a T2 Airbase in the NT helps Anzac’s fighters get to India faster. They can already be in Western Australia during T1?

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
i agree with all your anti wizards opinions except the scrambled planes issue which is now the latest cause running through the forums. why can’t 600 SBDs take out a navy?

RE: New Zealandposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I had the same issue/thoughts 3 wks or so ago looking for a PDF of the rulebook on their site. And god forbid someone else put it up and risk copyright infringement!
Not sure what everyone else paid for this game, but mine was $90. For $90 I could have a 1TB WD HD from newegg, and if there was so much as a fingerprint on it they would have replaced it. WOTC’s cust serv is pretty miserable, and I would really like to know just how many people actually playtested the game, and what their suggested changes/balances actually were. Nothing against anyone who worked on the game, I just don’t think WOTC had enough people playing it early on. The map misprints etc, are all things that could be easily missed by a dedicated playtester, but more eyes on the board early on could have seen it and had sz connection issues in Korea remedied much earlier on.
