I would say build all inf as Britain and have the US land all their planes there. If Germany is saving money for a turn to do Sea Lion, then changes their mind and attacks Russia, the UK troops can still be used in D-Day.

Limits on Infantryposted in House Rules
So you know those games where Germany is building all inf, USA is shuck-shucking 10 inf per round, Japan is bringing in 10 inf per round, UK is attacking WEU with 8 inf per round and of course Russia is building all inf:
If 1 inf represents 500 000 soldiers (which would be a good estimate if Germany’s starting army was 8 million troops) then how could there be enough people for this war? There wouldn’t have been enough people in the world to support all countries building at least 8 inf per round for seven rounds.
So what I was thinking is, maybe we could sometime try playing A&A with a limit per country on how many troops you can build. i. e. Germany can only build 30 inf, Russia 50 inf, etc. Then each country would be forced to win the war with units other than inf.

RE: All-time favorite video game?posted in General Discussion
I have had different favorites as the systems have come and gone:
Asteroids (Atari)
Double Dragon (Arcade)
Super Mario 3 (8 bit Nintendo)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Starcraft, Half-life, Age of Mythology and Half-life 2 (PC)How many of you think that “E.T.” for Atari lead to Atari’s demise in the 80’s?

RE: Do you find the game balanced?posted in Axis & Allies Europe
That’s a pretty good strategy, just sending the Norway troops to Russia and building that 1 trn in the Med to take out the oil states, along with moving the antiaircraft gun to Poland. But doesn’t Russia have enough troops if everything is moved west to counter these initial German forces? Any more German forces can be countered by the 3 extra ftrs and 2 bombers and built inf that Russia will have by round 3.
Anyway, I like your strategy and I might try it next time I play.

RE: Do you find the game balanced?posted in Axis & Allies Europe
Hmmm. The way my friends and I play, it is usually the Allies who have an easy time. UK and US just send aircraft to Russia, and Russia builds all inf, counterattacking Germany with inf and aircraft. Germany can take out all of the North Atlantic UK fleet, but not usually both the US and UK North Atlantic fleets. US usually builds at least one destroyer to help take out subs, and by round 5 Germany still isn’t near taking out Russia and D-Day has happened.
Do you strife with Russia? I mean, just attack for one or two rounds just to take out what’s on the front lines?
What do you build with Germany to have such success?
BTW, we play with normal rules for oil money.

RE: What's the best country to be. Please tell whyposted in Axis & Allies Classic
I like playing Germany the most because it takes some strategic thinking to get yourself out of the hole you’re in. I find it a challenge to hold off all three allies, and when you can hang on long enough for Japan to take over Russia it is rewarding.

RE: Which Ally Gets Mideast Moneyposted in Axis & Allies Europe
The mideast is special in that no ally gets “extra” money for it, but if territories in it are taken by Germany, the allies have to pay Germany out of their cash on hand for the territories. For example, if Egypt is held by Germany, one of the allies must pay Germany 1 IPC at the end of Germany’s turn. If the allies hold all the mideast territories, then no one has to pay Germany any money.

RE: Germany invading Britain strategies?posted in Axis & Allies Europe
Even better, for the initial 12 IPC purchase put a destroyer off the coast of Denmark instead of a sub. That way you will have more defence against an air attack and possibly also have another bombardment against Britain.

RE: Germany invading Britain strategies?posted in Axis & Allies Europe
Here’s a way you could take Britain on G2:
G0: Use initial 12 IPC’s to put another sub in the Denmark Sea and an artillery in Poland
G1: Build a battleship and two transports.Combat: Use the sub in the Halifax Sea and the sub in the Denmark Strait to attack the trn and des off Canada (this will be a risky battle, but the main point is to take out the trn). Use the subs in the South Atlantic, Azores Sea and Mid-Atlantic to attack the US ships. Note that if you have 1 sub left from the US battle, the US will not be able to build any ships because they would need a destroyer (or UK ships) to take out the sub. Use 1 sub from the Danish Sea and the fighter from Northern Italy to take out the destroyer in the English Channel. Use 1 sub from the Barents Sea and 1 sub from the Danish Sea and your 2 fighters from Germany and 1 fighter from Poland and 1 fighter from Norway to attack the British fleet in the North Sea. Use the 2 subs in the Bay of Biscay and 1 fighter from France and the bomber from Germany to attack the British fleet in the Celtic Sea. Attack the UK destroyer in the Strait of Gibralter with your battleship and destroyer from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Attack the Russians in the Baltics, East Poland and Bessarabia with everything that’s left on that front (inf, art, tanks) to hold them off for a round. Note that you have 1 sub left in the Danish Sea.
Noncombat: Land 2 fighters in Norway, 2 in Germany, and the rest of your planes in France. Move 4 inf from Germany to Poland, move 7 inf from Netherlands and Eastern France to Germany, move all tanks in France, the Netherlands and Northern Italy to Germany. Use the transport in the Tyrrhenian Sea to move 1 inf, 1 art to Morocco. Move all available units in Eastern Europe towards Russia.
Placing: 1 battleship and 2 trn on the Danish Sea.
Now you are set up to take Britain on G2 with 4 trn (1 in Gibralter Strait) filled with units, 2 Battleship and 1 destroyer support shots, and all your Luftwaffe. The ships you placed in the Danish Sea are out of range of all Russian planes except the bomber (and you can absorb a hit with your battleship) and the UK can take out maybe the leftover sub and 1 trn with their aircraft. If the UK does attack your ships with their aircraft, they will have less to defend their capital with.

RE: Suggestions? On A&AE, fastest way to oil money for germposted in Axis & Allies Europe
In the games I’ve played, I haven’t needed to place any more units in the Med. I just use 1 inf, 1 art and the BB and destroyer to take out the Malta plane on G1. Then kill the UK ships with the BB and destroyer (BB taking a hit) and land 1 inf + 1 art (possibly 1 inf from Southern Italy) to Libya with the rest of Rommel’s forces all on G2. Then on G3 you can send the BB and destroyer out to the Atlantic or for a bombardment in the Middle East if possible, while landing 2 more inf from Greece and Crete in the Middle East with the trn. This way, you will have a sizable force to take the Middle East by G4, while not diverting any resources from Russia or the Atlantic. If you wanted to take the Middle East before then I suppose you would have to place units there on T0.

RE: Fortress Europeposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Jpn had an economic victory???
Just by themselves?
I remember the Axis at 84 EV win condition. It is counted at the end of the USA turn.
Please enlighten me as I am unsure how that can be achieved when Ger is missing SE, EE, Ukr, F/N and possibly WE. That extra $14-20 is very hard to make up for unless Jpn takes over Rus.
No no, not by themselves. What actually happened was that I stacked as many allied troops as I could against Germany, meanwhile, Japan had most of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico and some territory in Africa by the time I attacked the German stack in Berlin. After ALL allies had attacked Germany, there were no allied units in EEU, WEU and Italy, and Germany just took them all back with something like 8 inf left in the capital. It was enough for an Axis economic victory by the end of US’s turn.

Here’s an idea for UK that I wanted to throw around:
First round: Build 2 fighters, have the US build an AC and 2 trn, send existing fighters to Russia.
Second round: send fighters to Russia, build 2 trn and 1 fighterFor every subsequent round, just keep building 4 inf and fighters whenever you can, sending all the fighters to Russia, to make it more difficult for Japan to take territory there. The fighters could be sent to Karelia or Moscow or even Novo. The 4 inf build per round can be used to help the US take back Africa and take WEU and also reiforce Karelia via Norway.
By the time Japan has enough forces to seroiusly threaten Russia, there will be so many UK fighters there that Germany will fall from US shuck-shuck first.

RE: Nominations for A&A Europe Strategiesposted in Axis & Allies Europe
OK Here’s a strategy for Germany:
For initial 12 IPC placement, put another sub off the coast of Canada, and an artillery in Poland.
Round 1:
Build 13 inf, 1 IPC change
Attack all Russian forces in range with all German forces in range, to take out as many Russian forces as possible. Use 2 fighters for this.
Use remaining 4 fighters and bomber and ALL naval units in the Atlantic to not only take out British convoys, but also to kill the whole British fleet. The extra sub off Canada can be combined with 2 other subs nearby (one sub taking out a British convoy on the way) to take out the British units off Canada. Note that the UK now will lose at least 10 IPC’s from at least 2 convoys being taken, and have no way to recover them until US’s turn because they do not have any destroyers. Move that one sub near Norway to run through the Russian convoy and sit between it and the Russian naval units, so it will take at least 2 turns for Russia to get its convoy back.Use 1 inf and 1 art from Italy with the battleship and destroyer south of Italy to attack the British fighter on Malta. In all your attacking, you should still have a bunch of units all along your southern coastline to deter a British amphib. invasion. If such an invasion occurs, you can always counter with with your fleet next turn. NOTE: leave at least 3 units in Northern Italy as you don’t want to lose your factory there!
For non-combat, land 2 fighters in Norway and 2 in Germany and 2 in Western France. Land the bomber in Western France too, to be used in round 2 of Naval attacks. Move all units iin western europe to Germany proper and all German units in eastern europe towards Russia except say 1 inf in each of your southern waterfront properties. Leave 2 inf in each of Western France and Belgium. Place all inf on Germany.
Your infantry in Norway and Finland are really just decoration, but use them to attack Russia if you can.
Round 2: buy 14 inf, you should be able to just afford this.
By the second round, you should still have a few subs left, which can be used along with airforce to kill freshly built UK sea units. If UK saved their money, take out more convoys (British or Russian convoys, as the Americans can take theirs back right away without loss of money). If you can keep the Russian convoy as long as possible, do it, because you want Russia to have as few units as possible.Again, take out as many Russian units as you can using the two fighters in Germany and all available units in the east. Now also start moving towards the Middle East, by attacking the British Naval units with your battleship and destroyer, and moving 1 inf, 1 art from southern italy or Malta to Egypt along with all the other German units in Africa.
Move all units that you massed in Germany on round 1 towards Russia. Land 2 fighters in Poland, 4 in Germany (if you can).
Place all 14 inf on Germany.Round 3: build 7 arm, 2 inf. USA has probably invaded by now, but your counterattack will have to wait. Keep 4 fighters in Germany proper. Your first blob of units is near Russia. The key with this is it will probably be attacked and killed, but by then Russia will not have enough units to defend against the second German wave of the second round of infantry and the third round of 7 tanks.
Round 4 and on: Build all infantry, and counter attack the allies with your inf and 4 fighters. Use the other 2 fighters to attack Russia.
With this method, barring bad die rolls, Germany should take Moscow by round 6, and also survive itself.

RE: PBEM Game (Game discussion DM vs. MS)posted in Axis & Allies Classic
Yes, I would also agree that a rd 3 lurch is too early for Germany.
In this game, EEU was stacked so well that it was unfeasible for Russia to attack it ever. This was also a good strat becuase the tanks just sat there for defense until they were needed in Karelia or WEU, and more and more inf just kept piling up there.
The 4 German inf bid in Libya also made things difficult for the allies. UK could have used its bomber against German ships but it was too preoccupied with liberating Africa.

OK, I’ll take you on. Send me a personal message with your email address so I will have one for the rolls. You can be the Axis with a bid of 12. I will look for this in the games section.

Tis true, tis true. Feeding India to Japan won’t really matter that much if Germany can be quickly killed first.

For a PBEM game, do we just send each other the map by email and then open it with the AAAMapWin program? I already know about Dicey.
If Hamar doesn’t want to play then I will.

RE: German attack on Kareliaposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Thanks for your evaluation of this strategy. I guess it is good to post a strategy and get tips on it rather than play it and lose.
By the way, I had bid 2 inf in Libya, so I would have been attacking Egypt with 3 inf 1 arm. If UK countered in Egypt, then India would have been easy pickings for Japan.
