      Thanks guys. I thought this was the case, but could not easily find what you quoted in the rule book so I wanted to make sure. Sometimes I do get it wrong. (But not often.  :wink:)

      I think, that I would have scrambled with 3 fighters to SZ110 because of the lack of sub fodder and 1 fighter to SZ109.
      In my turn I would have attacked the remaining sub(s) in SZ109 with SZ106 destroyer and air to prevent convoying.

      Panther’s got it.

      However, you can FIGHT the battles in any order, so while you can’t call off the battles completely, there is a reason to fight certain battles before others, since the outcome can counsel whether you would then press the other attacks, or just fight 1 round and retreat.

      nevertheless, strat bombings and then amphibs are first, by rule.

      No Marc - it is to keep them amused while their parents settle down to another day long A&A session. Complementary marketing!

      Ah.  Yes, that makes sense.  It’s a good thing they’re not selling Global 1940 because it would take more than a few monkeys to keep the kids amused for a full-length session of that gigantic game.

      @Shadowseer:

      Would you be ok with new players as well? (Just got the game myself, love it so far)

      Absolutely! All are welcome. We all started new at some point, right? Besides, I like it when a new player joins a game because they bring fresh, new ideas & possibilities to the table.
      Gaming this Saturday if you’re interested.

      @Larrie:

      @Maddog77:

      When the US declares war on it’s 3rd non-com phase, the minor complexes are immediately converted to major and then the US can place 8 units in eastern US on it place units phase, right? Or do the complexes get converted on US’s next turn?

        Curious as to where you came up with the number 8. As minors produce 3 units and majors 10 units.

      The particular game we were playing at that moment, the US had 8 units it wanted to place, assuming the complexes were able to be converted……but we had it all wrong anyway as we learned from this thread.

      @Maddog77:

      Here’s the question -can ANZAC, as the attacker, retreat from the battle? This would leave the Japan planes w/o a place to land thus having to “ditch” the planes.

      Yes. Providing that Queensland is either in Allied hands or has/will only be taken this round. Point is that if Queensland is a valid landing space for Japanese planes, they don’t ditch.

      @pfc_pander:

      Love the M-1 Carbine, nice touch!

      It’s fully functional too. My Dad carried one in Korea (He was an artillery man during the war) I have all the attachments for it (30 round mags, bayonette, heat shield, oil tube, etc.) It’s a very fun small caliber weapon to shoot. I like how it adds to the whole war room atmosphere so it just has to be displayed on the wall. I keep a trigger lock on it because I have young children running about and the rest of my hunting rifles are locked up in the safe. If anyone comes across a nice WWII propaganda poster or gadget for sale (from any country) please let me know. I’m really ramping up my collection.

      My grandfather was in the 40th Infantry Division in Korea and he told me a story about how carbines were a prized weapon of choice in the infantry. Guys from other units had them and it got around that you could get your hands on one if you went to the showers and waited for a guy who had one to step into the shower. Then they would just take his gun.

      He ended up doing just that.

      Thanks Witt.

      It came up during a strategy meeting our group had. I said yes of course you can, but then looked deeper into the situation and thought, there must be a consequences on a fall back using a surprise attack.

      But good to know an answer.

      Sometimes I find the units on the transports more valueable to eliminate than the transport itself.

      In a RARE occassion, someone might opt to NOT scramble against such an attack, and let the infantry be destroyed instead!  :evil:

      Of course, you as the attacker have the choice of which battles you want to roll first and what order you want to resolve all the battles. So while it may not help you in a mid-battle situation, you can decide if you have one battle that maybe kind of hinges on the outcome of another battle to do the other battle first and see the results.
      What I usually like to do is resolve all sea battles first, from the smallest to the largest, then all small land battles and then the larger land battles.
      For example: If I am Germany, a typical first round combat move would be to go after the Royal Navy in sea zones 91, 109, 110 and 111. On land I go after Normandy, France, Southern France and Yugoslavia. Sometimes I will also send a couple of planes after the French ships in SZ 93. That last one depends on how confident I am whether or not our UK player will scramble into SZ 110 and how confident I feel about the forces attacking Paris.
      In order, I resolve the sea combats first: 2 subs vs. cruiser in SZ 91 – 2 subs vs. DD and Transport in SZ 106 – 1 sub, 1 BB, 1 ftr, 1 tac and 1 bomb vs. 1 BB, 1 CA, 1 DD and maybe 1 ftr (from Scotland) in SZ 111 – then I will resolve SZ 110 which will usually be the biggest sea battle.
      If I don’t think UK will scramble, then I send 2 ftr, 2 tacs and 1 bomber against 1 BB and 2 CA. That is when I might send 1 ftr and 1 tac against the French CA and DD in SZ 93.
      If I do think UK will scramble, then I leave the French ships alone in SZ 93 and send 3 ftr, 3 tacs and 1 bomber against 1 BB, 2 CA and 3 ftr. Of course, if UK decides to save his fighters for later, then it is kind of a waste of planes for me totally overpowering the ships and not getting to attack somewhere else. Then again, if I don’t send those extra 2 planes and UK does scramble, I could end up getting slaughtered.
      After that, I move on to the land battles. First Normandy, then S France, then the big France battle and finally Yugoslavia. I do Yugoslavia last even though it is smaller than the France battle because it has no effect at all on any of the French battles and it is a neutral.
      Also, I use the FMG Combat Dice so I like to resolve battles with one nation before switching to different dice for another nation.
      Well, it looks like I just talked your ear off to make a simple point: small sea battles to large sea battles, small land battles to large land battles.

      Young GrasshopperY

      When we play A&A G40 at my bunker it’s always with 6 players, and we play a fast game due to our unique turn system that has worked quite well for us.

      Here’s how it works…

      In a 6 player game…

      1. Simultaneously the German player begins their purchase new units phase, the Russian player moves their eastern forces (18 infantry and 2 AA guns), and the Japanese player begins their purchase new units phase.

      2. Simultaneously the German player ends their collect income phase, the Russian player begins their purchase new units phase, and the Japanese player begins their resolve combat phase and/or non combat movement phase.

      3. Simultaneously the Russian player ends their collect income phase, the Japanese player ends their collect income phase, and the American player begins their purchase new units phase.

      4. Simultaneously the American player ends their collect income phase, the Chinese player begins their purchase new units phase, and the British player (Europe) begins their purchase new units phase.

      5. Simultaneously the Chinese player ends their collect income phase, the British player (Pacific) begins their purchase new units phase, and the ANZAC player moves their forces in Africa (2 infantry).

      6. Simultaneously the British player (Europe & Pacific) end their collect income phase, the Italian player begins their purchase new units phase, and the ANZAC player begins their purchase new units phase.

      7. Simultaneously the Italian player ends their collect income phase, the ANZAC player ends their collect income phase, and the French player conducts their entire turn.

      8. Repeat…

      PS: We have found that Japan is the real clock pig of all the nations. The player playing Japan should always be starting their purchase new units phase when Germany does, and they should always be ending their collect income phase when Russia does (or shortly after). This one little trick will save you at least 3 hours every game.

      I like seeing young folk playing the game.  It gives me hope that not all is lost on video games and electronic devices.  My son is 12 and is just starting to get into A&A although we play a lot of other games like D&D, MTG and most recently Talisman.

      Nice setup too.  I really need to get myself a setup like that.
