      Very nice work! I greatly appreciate your help in learning and setting up Alpha+2.
      Some questions though.

      1. Really? Russia has 2 subs and no xport?
      2. Really? No Minor IC in New Zeeland?

    • RE: What Would Stalin do?

      @poloplayer15:

      that’s wrong!! yeah you need to defend but don’t give up all that money and territory. the key to defending Russia is simple: layers of defense. have a defense line at the boarder and each territory line after that. i.e. Novgorod, Belarus, pripet marshes, western Ukraine, Ukraine.  just build inf. and a few tanks. make the Germans pay for each bit of ground they take. but its most important that you don’t let them destroy your whole army. what i mean is don’t bunch up your forces at one defense line. do some small counter attacks.

      also don’t give up Leningrad or Stalingrad with out a major fight. if you do the Germans get a minor factory. the same goes with the Ukraine.

      This tends to work quite well for me, as long as i don’t leave stacks within reach of germanys tank stacks. I’ve found it’s a rare day that germany can keep the supply lines constant on it’s march to Russia. I can usually chop them up at some point or another.

    • RE: Whew! 19 rounds & 22 hours later, Axis wins.

      @Gargantua:

      How many Russians did you kill?

      As many as I could reach! Both Russia and Germany were, at different points in the game,  knocking on each others capital door. The “dice Gods” would change their favors and battles that should have been easily won were lost. That’s what makes this game so much fun and interesting! The best laid plans……

    • Whew! 19 rounds & 22 hours later, Axis wins.

      Interestingly enough, my experienced opponent conceded w/ the Axis 8 rounds/12 hours into it. I thought it was premature but he did not see how he could pull it off. China was out of the game, India & ANZAC had not fallen, but there was no US navy in the pacific. US had captured Italy, but Germany was strong and had Russia on the ropes. When he conceded, it was 3:00am so we left the game set up & walked away. Next morning my son was looking at the board and concluded, like I did, that the game was not lost for the Axis just yet. He looked at me and said “Well old fat man, lets play this out!” So I took over the Axis and my son took the Allies and away we went. We’ve put a couple rounds in a night and 9 days later, I managed to pull it off w/ the Axis! It’s teetered back and forth w/ many cold dice battles. Both US & Japan have heavy bombers & radar. Japan also has Long Range Aircraft & War bonds. It’s been quite the slug fest w/ both sides knocking each other down to 1 or 2 units deciding the outcome of battles. It’s the longest game I’ve ever played but MAN, is this the best A&A game or what? It ended w/ Japan invading Western US  & Mexico while Germany finished off Russia. Very exciting, very long and very satisfying. I love this game!

    • RE: Should Axis and Allies be reduced to 2 turns?

      You folks are putting way too much thought into this. Keep it simple. Keep it the way it is as, in my mind, it keeps the game balanced.

    • RE: Does anyone play OOB?

      Well, I have only played OOB since I bought the game. 6 games later and I don’t think the game is broke. I’ve won playing both sides. I’ve been playing A&A for year against one freind of mine. We’re quite good at. Once all the dust settle and the Alpha rules quite changing, we’ll give it a try. One twist we like to put in all versions of A&A is no new IC’s.

      @SgtBlitz:

      Liking the beerstein collection.  The bins for all the plastic pieces is a bit too much for me, lol.

      My goal in life is to have a WWII themed paintball field set up in the backyard.  Gonna be a while before that happens.

      Thats 31 years of Budwiesr Holiday Stiens I’ve been collecting since 1980.

      The miltary storage case we found at a military surplus store. I’m told it’s from the Vietnam war era and was used for small aircraft repair parts at air bases. It was my sons idea to use it as you see in the pics. I was sceptical at 1st, but it actually works out well. Keeps the table clutter free and no knocking boxes or pieces off the table while I “elbow” around. We spent a day or two cutting & gluing the game symbols (I copied the color chart in the back of the instruction book) on the idex inserts in each drawer.

      When you get that paintball field up & running, let me know! My brothers, sons & nephews (13 of us) will come running! Been playing that for years! Lots of adrenilin filled fun!

    • The Bunker

      Well now that my 1st 3 kids have flown the coop, the basement is all MINE!  :-D My son & I have turned it into our gaming room we call “The Bunker”. After a little fixing up & shopping at Hayworth Office Furnitures Outlet Store, Perimeter Military Surplus and Home Depot, we have a big enough table set up in the Bunker. Battles rage on most nights as we usually play 1 round a night learning what AAG40 is all about. Far and above the most fun A&A game. Most time consuming, but must fun!

      Here’s some pics of the bunker.

    • Upgrading a Minor IC?

      The additional rule of capturing a Major IC and imeadiatly turning into a Minor IC is pretty clear. What i cannot find in the rule book is how to upgrade it. My son managed to capture GB on G2. The Major IC was converted to a Minor IC as instructed. The US has liberated it on US3. What must I do to upgrade it w/ GB?

      @MarkVIIIMarc:

      If you have the AA guns around do you have the white complexes from one of the old games?

      I use the complexes & AA Guns from old games. I much prefer that over the silly little squares that are so hard to pick up.

      1. Thou shall not have food or drink on the game table PERIOD!
      2. Thou shall kill the daughters cat that jumped up on the game board (after 4 days of play and still not finished) while no one was home and play w/ all the pieces!

    • Russian Sub "On Station" while not at war?

      This senario came up the other night. On R1, is the russian sub moving into SZ 125 to disrupt Germanys convoy route an illeagal move since it is not at war yet? If so, I assume that’s true anywhere on the board for any team? If not at war, one cannot move into and stay in a SZ w/ a convoy symbol as that would be an act of agression?

    • RE: Quick and easy solution to tac bombers

      Happy Holidays Everyone! I hope all have a very enjoyable X-mass tonight. For me, we’re having the in-laws over for this evening, so my boys & I setting the new game up on the dining room table probably won’t be an option.  :wink: Unless we want a lump of coal in our stocking tomorrow morning. So we’ll’ have to impatiently wait for tomorrow night.

      I’ve dug out some AA Guns and IC’s from some old games and I’m gonna paint a set of IC’s to represent the minor IC’s.
      We’ve also used the paper money in this game. Much more user freindly gaming w/ these minor adjustments. Kind of completes the whole A&A “atmoshpere” and feel if you know what I mean. Other than that, this game is an apsolute roit! I see more games this week as I’m on holiday from work till the 4th!

    • RE: Get rid of the cardboard

      Well I just picked my game up last weekend. Played 2 games so far. I do not care for the cardboard. I think that for the money I paid, they should have kept paper money and the plastic IC and AA guns. They still have the production molds from previous games so no money spent there. I know, as a Tool Designer myself, what production costs are all about. This was strictey saving pennies. After pushing all that cardboard around, let alone trying to pick it up, I dug out the plastic pieces from old games. Much better. As far as saving space on the board? C’mon -really?! A board this size and space is an issue?! Not. In the end, I think Larry Harris did his A&A fans a disservice and let us down a little w/ this sub-quality type of game pieces. JMHO.

      Regards, SMS

    • RE: "…and now we're hating on cardboard!?"

      I hate the cardboard.  :x Much prefer the plastic AA gun and IC pieces. As much as I paid for this game, it should be plastic pieces as w/ all the other games.

    • British Convoy Income at Start of Game?

      Do the British team get the $12 at the start of the game to distribute between India & Austraila along w/ it starting income? I cannot find any instructions to that regard on setting up and starting the game in the manual. It only refers to collecting that income at the end of it’s 1st and subsequent turns.

      I have found that the US has enough starting units in Western US and Line Island to to give a good go at Hawaii on it’s 1st round.

    • Fighter strafing?

      Anyone else think that the dice of 1 for a hit w/ the fighter is rather unrealistic? I played the allies and only had a hit twice the whole 10 rounds! Yet the blockhouse that fires out to sea hits on a 3? It was rather devestating to the initail allied landing forces. We played 3 games this last weekend (1st time playing the game) and at this point, I think the game does seem slanted towards an axis victory w/ the axis tanks defending at 3, blockhouses hitting on 3, allied bombardment hitting on 2 and fighter strafing hitting on a 1. It most certainly makes a victory w/ the Allies more pleasing and hard fought. (that hasn’t happend yet. :|
      What are your thought on this particular aspect of the game?
