Can you scramble fighters against anphibous assaults that are just transports only? The way I see it, there is no sea battle going on so there is no navel battle to scramble fighters against. It’s just a land battle on shore.

Pausing a battle, concluding others, then coming back to it?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
In a round of combat, is it legal to pause one battle because one is not sure if one wants to retreat or not, move on to others, conclude those and come back to the paused battle and then decide to continue or retreat? I say no but my opponent say it’s fine and that’s allowed at other games. What do you folk think?

RE: Field Marshal COMBAT TURRETposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@CWO… When you say “made out of cardboard” is that a bad thing or a problem? Does it not work well?
Cardboard will not handle the test of time. Rolling dice can be very harsh on a surface and will wear out rather quickly. I looked at these a couple years ago and as soon as I saw they were made of cardboard I immediately dismissed them as poor quality.
I ended up making my own. They’re a bit large but work quite well. Â I ended up fastening them to my game table so I could mount my magnetic score board between them. I am going to extend the tray about 6" so I get more tumble out of the dice. On a humorous note, I swear using a dice tower makes one throw 5’s & 6’s quite consistently! :wink:http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n534/maddog771/01-14-12026.jpg

RE: How much time are both sides allowed to make moves in tournament play?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Is there a tournament for Global? All I’ve ever heard of is revised, 50th & 1941.

RE: Ship Placement at Naval Basesposted in House Rules
I think you mean Kwangsi. Kwangtung already starts with a naval base for the British. Personally, I prefer to put the naval base on Hainan, but it has the same effect either way.
Yup. Kwangsi is indeed the territory I meant. I’ll have to look at Hainan when I get home too.

RE: Ship Placement at Naval Basesposted in House Rules
First off, I am yet to play a game where a naval base is purchased. It is overpriced and can’t compete with the airbase’s scrambling ability.
I would venture you have not played many games with different folks then. I personally like purchasing a NB for Japan on J1 and placing it on Kwangtung. That puts Japan on India in 2 moves or Australia too if the need arises to switch directions as things develop. I’ve bought them before for other countries as well.

Time it takes to play a gameposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I REALLY love this game. Of all the A&A game variants (Of which I own all but 50th & Guadacanal) this is the most enjoyable to me. The only problem I see is the really-really-reeaaaalllly long time it take to play a game. Getting players to commit to what always turns out to be 2 days of play is a real trick. We’ve had one round of play take almost 2 hours ! That’s just to long.
What have you folks done to speed up the game? Time limits on turns? Barking at players to start their turn while the previous player finishes up theirs? Nixing certain rules or options? (Convoy routes) Other ideas? Let’s hear what all you other gamers have done to speed this up.
Thanks, Mad Dog

RE: So did uncrustable delete his whole thread?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Wow! :-o 3 pages over someone deleting a thread because they can. Reminds me of the serenity prayer.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.We cannot control other people and their thoughts.
We can respect other people and their thoughts, even if we do not agree.
Getting upset over others peoples thoughts and opinions on a game web site is wasted energy.
Smile and giggle at ourselves for getting caught up in a silly debate and move one.
Ammends were made already so accept that and game on! That’s what it’s all about here on this site anyway.Regards, SMS

RE: Need help with rules clarification on Germany assault of Englandposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
So you’re saying that once sea units conduct combat, they cannot move into an unoccupied SZ with their remaining movement?
Thanks.
Correct. There is no remaining movement. Does not matter if it took 1 or two moves to get to the battle. Once battle commences, all navel movement is done.

RE: Need help with rules clarification on Germany assault of Englandposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
No. Once you do a sea battle, all movement stops there. You cannot conduct battle, clear the Sz, then move on to another sz to land ot start another battle. All battles are conducted simotanously during the combat phase.

I’d like ANZAC, China France simply because I get more opportunity to play.

RE: Epic set upsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@CWO:
By the way, is that a 20mm cannon round sitting on the shelf next to the model of the Flying Tiger aircraft?
Why yes it is! My son acquired that from some Army friends of ours. It’s a showpiece and, obviously, not a live round. Good eye for the detail too.

@CWO:
Very nice! The sculpt storage trays inside the hinged shipping case look great – did you custom-build this item?
That’s actually a military storage bin that my son & I purchased at a local military surplus store. We were told it’s from the Vietnam era and was used to store and transport small aircraft parts. It was actually my sons idea and works out rather well. Whoever’s turn it is simply pull the bins for their country and replaces them after the turn. Keep the table really clutter free for elbowing around the table. I created the labels and organized the drawers. Each country has it’s own 5 bin in a vertical row. Axis in order of turn on the left, Allies, in order of turn on the right.

Very nice! I’m very impressed and I share your love of making a game room. I’ve tried to do the same w/ my basement. You’ve given me some great ideas to add to my room. Thanks for sharing.

RE: Sea Lion - How would you do it?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
 If both sides do everything right and dice aren’t ridiculous, then sealion will work about 2 out of 3 tries.
You got that right! Last weekend I think I had the worst dice I’ve ever rolled. I couldn’t roll a 1,2 or 3 to save my life. Most of the night it was 4’s, 5’s & 6’s. That can be very demoralizing and hard to get past.
