    • RE: Worst A&A game?

      We picked up this game last Saturday. We were going to buy A&ABB but the store did not have it in stock. So we picked up A&ADD instead. After 3 games we both (my son & I) decided it was a very fun game and yet, quite frustrating as the battles seem to have mostly indesicive conclusions. Once we dumped our A&A paradigms, we were able to comprehend and enjoy the game. Next game we’ll start using the other cards and see how it plays out.

      Regards…

      @Krieghund:

      From the FAQ:

      This should fix you up.  Of course, even if you don’t have one of the “affected” games, they’ll still help you out.

      That was a BIG help. Thanks Krieghund! I sent my e-mail in and will hopfully recieve a positive reply w/ the missing pieces sent to me.

    • Not enough Germ Inf

      I just picked up A&AE this last weekend. My son & I set it up. I did not have enough G Inf. pieces to set up!  The game came with only 11. Has anybody else had this problem? I mean, c’mon now…I pay $48 for this game and it doesn’t have enough peices for the initail setup?! That’s dissapointing.  Of course I just dove into the other A&A games for more pieces so we could still battle. I hope this is just a quirk in this particular box.

      BTW…A&AE is quite fun! It’s quite the mind tease like A&AP is. It takes some very fine stratigies & tatics to play this version. I forsee some fun Saturdays in the near future!

    • RE: I have a question

      @Krieghund:

      From page 22 of the Operations Manual:

      New sea units can enter play even in a hostile sea zone.  (No combat occurs because the conduct combat phase is over.)

      This was also an optional rule in Second Edition Classic (page 31).

      Well whadaya know? I learn something new every day. Thanks for the information.
      Since this fall under the “optional” rules, does every player have to agree or do I just pull rank and say “So be it”. :-D

    • RE: I have a question

      Am I missing something here? If Germany has navel units in UK’s SZ at the end of UK’s turn, the UK cannot place those navel units and loses them. If I remember correctly, that’s how it’s spelled out in the rule book and the revised eddition makes no mention that being changed. Sounds like a house rule to me.

    • RE: Kamakazi Attacks

      @dinosaur:

      Even with the really bad luck, I bet you still won the game.

      Good observation. I did win the game. At the point of the KK attacks, Japan was down to about 11 or 12 IPC pts.
      Still, watching my son’s reaction to his good dice rolls was a roit! He was laughing as the 'ol man grumbled and put the ACC’s back in the storage bin.  We really do have a great fun battling each other over the game. I treasure these moments as he is 12 years-old and time spent w/ Dad is becoming a premium. Get it while I can! Know what I mean?

    • Kamakazi Attacks

      My son threw some of these at me during our last game. I was the US. I split my navy in two and invaded 2 islands close to Japan. He threw 2 KK on each fleet and all 4 hit. He targeted my ACC’s and took them all!! I was able to keep the planes as they could land nearby but HOLY COW did that hurt! Now my x-ports & DD’s were basically unprotected and he cleaned them up on J’s next turn. That really sent me scrambling to buy new units and get them moving.

      I’ve alway thought the KK attacks had a rather minimal effect and, until now, never worried too much about them. I certainly will not make that mistake again. Has anyone else had a simular experience regarding KK attacks?

    • RE: WHAT ARE THE MOST JAPANESE IPC'S YOU'VE SEEN AFTER TURN 1?

      40 IPC’s. I do it every time I play Japan. I take the PI and all the DEI, Malaya, Borneo & Hong Kong. These = 21 IPC which puts Japan @ 40 IPC’s. If all goes well I do not lose too much units due to Japans 1st round attack advantage. (All Allied units, except the Chinese, defend at 1 on the dice) Tonight I won by VP’s, holding over 40 (I topped out @ 45) for 6 rounds. USA had sunk Japans navy on T5 after I slammed into AUS capital after building up INF & ART for a couple rounds and lost that battle. I pretty much had expanded all my forward units and had started reinforcing the India campaign. By the time the USA started to xport land units it was too late. It was great game w/ a few navel battles that cost both sides alot of hardware! Great fun! My boys are grumbling by being beat by the “ol Man” again.  :-D

    • RE: First A&A game

      Started playing w/ my brothers when I was 13 (1976) We actually took a 4’x8’ piece of plywood and painted a blown-up version of the board on it. We spent a few weeks in Dads workshop making little wooden playing pieces and painting them. It was quite fun. We set it up on the ping-pong table and spent weeks battling. We came up w/ a few variations on the rules, map and unit movements. The one I remember quite well is stealth subs! We would start of w/ our subs in the proper starting sz’s, but we would “submerge” the subs when moving them so our opponets did not know where they were until they “surfaced”. We’d plot the moves on paper so we could prove where they moved to and from. It was quite fun to have an opponet move his fleet into a SZ that was occupied by 4 or so submerged subs. The subs would “surface”, in some cases stopping the opponents full movement, take a few hits and watch the subs submerge. Great fun and a nice twist to the game.

    • RE: HELP.. though situation what to do with USA fleet?

      On the rare occation that my opponent leaves me the Pearl Harbor fleet, I use it to harras Japan. I still stick w/ my game plan of Germany 1st and buy the xports and units to tag-team Germany from the east. Japan will be distracted w/ some Island hopping going on and will have to use precious resorces to quell it, thus stalling it’s Russia crush somewhat. If I’m lucky, Japan will lose a good amount of navel units fom my attacks and defensive rolls.

    • RE: Which is country is your first choice.

      Hey Madpup! Germany ALWAYS takes out the British fleet! I taught you that right away. You did rather well last week. You actually beat the 'ol man!  :-o You’re the 1st to do that in years! So this Friday you’re in deep pooh-pooh 'cause Mad Dog’s gonna take you down by the 4th round! :-D Get your gameface on and warm the dice up. Remember -It’s MY island!

    • RE: I nailed today!

      @dinosaur:

      It sounds like you didn’t get the Phillipines on J1.  From my experience, taking Aus and Ind on J3 is an a-symetrical result.  You shouldn’t be able to repeat that often.  Did you get some great dice in that game?  I am curious.  Still, it is great when the plan works.  My experience with Japan isn’t anything like you describe.  Congrats.

      Yes, taking the Phillipenes was one of the 1st objectives I had. I did that also. I was having a great run of rolling 1’s w/ the dice for infranty. On J1 I streched Japan to the max. As far as I could w/ everthing available. I think nothing but 1 x-port w/ 2 inf. from Japan was left for the non-com phase move. I took out as much British Navy as I could reach. There were a couple SZ clearing actions then landing the troops for a land assault. Taking the India Capitol on J3 was kind of a fluke as my son only left 3 tanks there. I wasn’t planning it but opportunity knocked. I was able to come in the “back door” w/ 2 inf. , 2 figters & 1 bomber along w/ 2 bttleshp & 2 destyr landing shots. It worked.

    • I nailed today!

      Hi,

      1st off, I’m new to this site (days) so here’s a hardy “Hello” to everyone! I’ve been playing A&A since I was 13. (1976) Mainly w/ my 4 brothers and in recent years, a good buddy when we’re both able to escape from “Daddy duty” for an evening. Now my 2 sons are getting into it w/ me so we’re having some good games. I bought A&AP about 10 years ago and played it 2-3 times. I remember it being rather overwhelming at the time regarding the amount different units, logistics, possible strats and tiny spaces. (India & the chinese) Today, my son & I dusted the game off and set it up. We read & re-read the manual and things really clicked for me. The 2nd game I played Japan. On the J1, I was able to expand into Dutch New Guinea, Celebs, Borno, Java, Sumantra, Malaya. I sunk the US fleet in Hawaii and sent a sub over to sz15 to occupy the BC5 as a small diversion. I aslo pushed into China in 3 territories. It took about 1/2 hour to figure out the logistics of it but it worked out b/c of Japans 1st round advantage. I hardly lost any units. On J2, I invaded Australia and sunk most of their fleet. J3 I took BOTH Capitals of India & Australia and took sz52 & 49 to further reduce their income. The US fleet was just getting going but were not going stop me from holding Australia for 1 round. It was quite intense and REALLY fun. But what’s really interesting is that I actually understood the concept of what Japan must do and how to get there before US gets a solid foothold. I love it when a plan comes together! Anyway, I’m looking forward to more games and hanging out here learning some tricks & strats.

      Regards,  SMS
