      specifically, which nationality of infantry should be hit first?

      if it wasn’t mixed ownership, I’d just do AA gun -> inf -> art -> tank, because I’m pretty sure the AA gun operator will not live to celebrate his accuracy)

      When I play with my friends, we do what you propose; we count the IPC value of a country at the end of its turn.  We find this to be simple because we simply count the IPC difference for each territory, and add this (or subtract) from the default IPC for this nation.

      We find that when we adjust the tokens for all countries, that this is a very error prone method, and it forces us to do counting that is not necessary.  All that is necessary is to know how much your nation is worth at the end of your turn.  At all other times this information is useless.

      But, you should still use paper money, because you collect money at the end of your turn, and you may also have saved some money from your previous turn phase.  The amount of money that you have in pocket is generally not the same as your IPC value at any given moment in the game.

      In any case your description is right, but it’s the first time I’ve heard that the version has an Axis-tilt.  Certainly in my group we find that the Axis is more fun to play, but also more challenging.

      Against good allies, plan on being on the defensive.  Russia will come at you, and it won’t take long for the Allies to sink your navies and start coming over the Atlantic.

      I recommend that you do conquer Egypt on the first turn, but then leave it at that.  You will likely lose Egypt shortly afterwards, so I recommend taking your African Army across the Suez and into Persia to be a little bit aggressive against India and Caucasus.

      Fighters and Bombers are good, you’ll need them for sinking the British Navy (especially on turns 1 and 2).  Infantry is pretty good, but I recommend some tanks and artillery as supplements.

      From there, just try to keep Russia busy while Japan spreads through Asia.  Ask your Japanese Ally to make a decisive goal of taking a straight line to Moscow through one or two of the three paths to Moscow (either north of mongolia, or through China, or through India).

      Well, I would recommend taking some time to browse through some of the posts in this section of the forum, because it is no longer very active but most of the advice is still prudent.  There are also a few articles about A&A revised strategy for each nation.

      In general, though, I would recommend that you immediately try to pressure Germany with all three allied players, while not forgetting about important pieces that are already on the board (such as British Fighters and Navy scattered in the Indian Ocean / Pacific area, or the American transports in the Atlantic).  Try to minimize the amount of money that you spend on expensive naval units, focusing on ground units and transports as much as possible.

      Also, depending on exactly what rule set you are using (box rules, Larry Harris Tournament Rules, house rules, etc.), you should strongly consider some strategic bombing raids on Germany with your existing bombers.

      As Russia, I usually struggle to contain Germany on the Eastern Front, so be careful and try not to expose too much armor to German counter-attacks.  If you can keep Germany from pressuring Caucasus that is good.

      As Britain, I tend to purchase some big boats on the first turn, play a little bit defensively until I am certain that a German invasion is impossible (I often try to sink their Baltic Transport ASAP to accomplish this), and then I work on pressuring Germany.  Make sure that you purchase the right amount of transports and keep your navy alive, otherwise you can end up out of time and feel like you are wasting your turns.  A turn that you are not landing troops in Africa / Europe / Russia or trying to invade Western Europe, is in my opinion, a bad turn for the UK.

      As the US, I used to hold the orthodox position that the only correct move was to transport units into Africa or Europe every turn, although I have lost to US players who are aggressive in the Pacific.  Try to look for opportunities, and don’t be afraid to be a little bit “cost- ineffective” in your battles if it means forcing Germany to engage several players at once.  I maintain that Africa is best left to the US, and if the US idles with its Atlantic transports it can mean losing the game for the Allies or at least a hard game for the UK.  Even if you are doing a “Pressure Japan First” strategy, I highly recommend landing your Washington Forces in Algeria right away, and trying to add targets in the atlantic for the strong (but finite) german air force.  Reinforcing UK’s moves is generally a good idea, too, if you can.  Remember that the UK and US get to move (in that order) between Germany’s turns, so look to strengthen the UK position every turn with this pattern.

      I think you are correct.  If the US forces do not have a destroyer, then any hits done by your submarine are killed before they can strike back.  Of course, because you have a destroyer, his submarines do not get the same luxury.

    • RE: How to make a good use of the British fleet in the Indian Ocean

      Generally speaking that fleet is useful for harrassing the japanese forces, and not much else.  If you send the fleet into the mediterranean it risks becoming redundant (and this is only possible if Germany does not close the Suez Canal due to error or bad rolling).  I consider the Indian Ocean fleet to be basically the same as a lot of Allied units in Asia - something that you can throw under the bus to slow down the Japanese advancement.  Japan WILL advance; be sure of that.  Just do your best to buy one turn, then one more turn, then another.  Stall Japan and kill Germany.

      I like several of the strategies mentioned above, and I’m glad that I read this thread because it gave me some new ideas.  For example, I had never even considered strafing the submarine with the fighter and protecting pearl harbour.  Of course, Japan should still be able to sink the whole mess, but it does provide slightly better chance of a successful American counter-attack.
