RE: HALOposted in Other Games
ive only played HALO once or twice, and it seemed like a pretty good game. but nowhere near the best FPS ever. Gotta go old school here with either Wolfenstein or the newer Goldeneye. although the levels on HALO are far superior to anything yet. but i have to say i live for Goldeneye and can lay the smackdown on anyone.

RE: Tetrisposted in Other Games
ive got it on my TI-86 calculator and i play it all the time. got up to 194 lines w/ just under 100,000 pts. but i think the level speed and scoring are different for the calc since its not a licensed version. 6 more lines and i’d have made level 20.

ive got my own HR like this one called A&A generals. its not as interesting since you don’t necessarily get to mangle some people, but you can check it out here.

RE: Axis freezeposted in Axis & Allies Classic
if you have windows XP, you can run it in WIN 95 mode. right click the icon and go to properties and click the compatibility tab. check the box for “run in compatibility mode” and select 95 or 98. 95 looks cool as the flags wave at hyperspeed and the scrolling is ridiculously fast. 98 runs at a bit more reasonable speed.

RE: GUys got a q what is the best unit?posted in Axis & Allies Classic
it all depends on the country in question. no one unit is best for all of them. but here’s my picks :) :
Russia: INF, sheer numbers can overwhelm the german war machine on a relentles march to berlin
Germany: Tanks/Armor, blitzkrieg, thats all there is to it
UK: trannies, i know it sounds stupid, but without them the UK can’t do much of anything
Japan: anything, japan needs all the help she can get on the mainland, it doesnt really matter what it is, just get units there quick
USA: Carrier w/ 2 Fighters, can we say smackdown?? they can obliterate japan’s navy while also serving to protect units in an amphib assault
now these are just my picks, they might not work for all your strats, so feel free to tweak them to work for you.

RE: What is your guys favoriteposted in Axis & Allies Classic
never played europe or pacific. but it seems to me that they are both merely shrunken versions of the original just with more detail. the global conquest aspect of the original is quite appealing, plus the classic game seems like it would be more challenging than the others, since it has more opponents to worry about, as well as much larger fronts to concentrate on.

I voted that your idea needs some work because you forgot that aside from being in Africa,Rommel also helped build the massive defense system in Normandy before the Allied invasin.
while this is true, he is most renowned as the “desert fox” for his work with the afrika corps in north africa.

3. The battle is resolved with all units remaining as they were Offense/Defense on the board… however Attackers may retreat (but they are not pursuied…)
the battle is considered to be real time. therefore, even if a defending unit is “hit” and killed, it still gets to fire on the following defensive volley after it was hit. hit uints for both sides are removed from the game after each defensive volley.

The sad fact is that the negative and controversial means ratings & sells newspapers here, so the worst of our country are always in the spotlight.
that is very true. its the main reason why everyone is so paranoid about somthing bad happening, and also why some foreigners think we’re all stupid and lazy.

it’s very sad.thought you’d like that. but just think how TG feels.

RE: Question For a Expert A&A Playerposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Russia (with RR): Strengthen both borders. Japan can hurt you more than most people think. hit Germany before they get to strong enough to fight.
Germany: Strike Russia Quick, take Karelia and hold it long enough to start pumping out units. control the North Sea to keep brit trannies away from France. this allows you to concentrate on Russia. take as much of Africa as quickly as possible
UK: Keep the North Sea in Allied hands, a german blockade can be devastating to your war effort. can buy trannies/INF to later invade europe.
Japan: get as many units to the mainland as fast as possible. Keep the US at bay at sea, you dont necessarily have to do Pearl Harbor, but make sure you dont let them get a huge fleet.
US: start massing trannies/INF in the Pacific. American Industry can make or break the allied war effort. keep a carrier or 2 with fighters in the pacific, you can use the possible Brit carrier in the North Sea for trannie defense in the atlantic, since the Germany navy is pretty much Kaput after the first turn or so. keep your capital ships in the pacific against japan. and be sure to help liberate africa from German control

RE: Infantryposted in Axis & Allies Classic
INF are usually good for defense and sheer numbers. russia can use them for attacking germany by then numbers and against japan. being islands, UK/Japan can use them for defense. however, germany should use mostly air and tanks, and the US needs trannies to make good use of INF.

RE: If you have good luck, try this Russian strategy!!!posted in Axis & Allies Classic
CC’s right, RR would eliminate this threat. although i have done something similar to this before. I send everything that can reach it into the Ukraine SSR. buy only INF for this turn. place them all in karelia and on R2 send everything into E/Eur, buy only tanks on R2. this gives you quite a strikeforce into Germany on R3. and while you may only hold it for 1 turn, Germany has no $$ and you have extra to keep buying tanks to retake it quickly.

RE: Any advice on my stiuation?posted in Axis & Allies Classic
hit russia. and do it quickly. if you can get past manchuria before they have a chance to retaliate, then you can get some serritory quick and easy. dont worry about regaing the lost territory yet. you can cut them off as you go after the capital. go around manchuria if you have to and head up from the south. you could also land troops into the Soviet Far East from japan. as for Germany, let america sit out if it wants to. keep enough of a force in the east to help against russia, but start massing troops/trannies for an assault on UK. if you have any bombers, do SBR’s until youre ready for the assault, this should keep UK production to a minimum.
