    • RE: USA in global only get 30 IPC in war NO

      if the US gets too much then we will quickly be complaining about how the US is overpowered.  We have to remember that there will likely be changes right up to the release date and then after as well and then fixes sent out to those who recognize it and correctly point it out.
        Maybe they will just send a little chip with a 30 on it to put over the W-US 40…

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      though I’ve undoubtedly just missed someone else posting this already, I haven’t seen it posted on FMG’s project thread or here, but they have all the pics and the units listed as an actual item on FMG’s site:
      http://www.fieldmarshalgames.com/field-marshal-combat-units.html

      99.99, but not final price…. that’s only up 50% from the original price thought a year ago, though there are more pieces now included too.

    • AA42 on Clearance at Target

      Hey All,

      Into the local Target this morning and found 10 copies of AA42 all on half-off clearance ($15 each) on an endcap in the back of the store.  Not sure if this is a chain-wide thing or if they just didn’t sell in the area here, but if you are looking for extra pieces, may of interest.

    • RE: AAP40 FAQ

      @Krieghund:

      @LuckyDay:

      So, if the UK/ANZAC attack Japan first, can Japan counter without bringing the US into the war?

      Yes.

      @LuckyDay:

      This would not be an ‘unprovoked attack’ by Japan, but would require the declaration of war by Japan on the subsequent turn to UK/ANZAC.  Japan could certainly defend itself in the UK/ANZAC attacks, but if they go offensive their next turn it changes the status of combatants.  It seems that this is indeed what it is meant, however the wording still seems ambiguously vague.

      Again, the phrase “unprovoked attack” no longer appears in the political rules, and attacks may not be done without a declaration of war.  It seems to me that declaring war upon someone that has already declared war upon you is not “unprovoked”.  Forgive me, but I’m not seeing any ambiguity.

      The ambiguity was indeed worse in the previous incarnation of the FAQ and the official rules, albeit this one is much better, though can still be evidenced in the first question’s answer above.  Partly this is because you have to explain game mechanics through the eyes of how real life works, what with Jap ships sneaking past ships and declaring war with bombs rather than words, alas…

      If UK attacks Japan, you are telling me that a state of war occurs between UK/ANZAC and Japan, as well as the Dutch, but not between them and the US.  So if UK attacks Japan on UK1, then Japan can freely attack UK/Anzac or the Dutch without bringing the US into the war until turn 3, unless they also attack the US before that because it was an unprovoked declaration of war by the UK on Japan.

      However, if Japan attacks the Dutch on J1, then they are at war with the Dutch, UK/anzac and the US immediately and really no declaration of war is needed because of an unprovoked declaration of war by Japan.

      A declaration of war can be made and acted upon some of the powers by others, and in some cases that will create a state of war between them and in some cases not.  I just wanted the clarification on what was intended to be meant so we know where ‘house rules’ would start.

      thanks- appreciate the help.

    • RE: Replacements for cardboard counters in the 1940's series

      @allworkandnoclay:

      Does anyone have any suggestions that fit the scale of common A&A pieces? I’m painting my set so the base color of the new pieces doesn’t matter. My first thought was a Monopoly house or hotel for the minor industrial complex, but I’m still stumped for the air and naval bases.

      Currently we are using the gray IC pieces from revised for the minor ICs and the white ones from Classic for the Majors.  This matches up with already using the gray chips for 1’s and the white chips for 2’s.

    • RE: AAP40 FAQ

      Still not clear on this ‘declaration of war’ & ‘unprovoked attack’, even after reading the redone format in the FAQ.  Played it different ways a few times, and just want to grasp the way it is intended so we know what becomes the house rules…

      The US cannot declare war on Japan unless they are attacked by Japan or an unprovoked attack by Japan on UK or ANZAC.

      So, if the UK/ANZAC attack Japan first, can Japan counter without bringing the US into the war?  This would not be an ‘unprovoked attack’ by Japan, but would require the declaration of war by Japan on the subsequent turn to UK/ANZAC.  Japan could certainly defend itself in the UK/ANZAC attacks, but if they go offensive their next turn it changes the status of combatants.  It seems that this is indeed what it is meant, however the wording still seems ambiguously vague.

      Declarations of war must occur at the beginning of a Combat Move phase before movement (ie, no moving past ANZAC or US ships through one SZ to conduct combat in another SZ surrounding an island on the other side of ships)

      So if the US blockcades the SZs around Hawaii then Japan would have to fight in those SZ’s a space away from Hawaii on one turn before next turn moving to the Hawaii SZ?

      The Tac-bombers size make sense to tell them apart surely enough, and each unit type has different scales and all, but are you saying you don’t know why they look small in the picture or why they were made smaller?

      Is the perspective throwing me off on the photos, or are the Tactical Bomber pieces all bigger than the Fighters and the Artillery pieces bigger than the Half-track Mech Infantry pieces?

      Oh yeah, I forgot about the Grey Nazi Dice, that’s the only set I won’t use, still use the black dice to match the pieces.  Stickler for the uniformity bit with them since I have them…  Sorry FMG, they are still awesome dice sets!

      Same colors as their dice which just happen to match AA50

      let’s hope they don’t go and change them now for the '40s games, though all the complaints about the closeness of the Italians and Soviets, who knows…  (fingers crossed) :roll:

    • RE: Operation Sealion a Possibility with AA1940 Europe?

      @Twigley:

      I don’t think they meant without US/UK aid - but I do think that by D-Day the Soviets had the game in the bag. Aided by SBRs from the western allies yes - but the land invasion of France did nothing but distract an already mortally wounded Germany. If the western allies had continued their aerial attacks - but not invaded Russia would still have won.

      In fact - if in 1944 the US and UK had made peace with Germany - I think Russia would still have won. Germany had lost too much by then to be replaced. Not in terms of equipment - which German factories produced in large amounts but in terms of the loss of people; both Army groups south and centre - over 2/3 of their fighting forces - and the remaining third - battered and broken and trying to plug holes which were spread over 100’s of miles of  front.

      I mean, don’t get me wrong - I’m a brit. But to say that the Russians NEEDED us to invade France in 1944 is wishful thinking. They were begging us to in 1942 - and we didn’t. Then arguably it may have made a difference.

      Please note: I am NOT saying the Russians won WWII in europe without the western allies. Just that by 1944 they could have.

      The UK/US liberated France - because by 1944 they were already preparing for the Cold War. To pretend it was out of ‘honour’ or ‘commitment’ is fanciful.

      I know what you are saying Twigley, but to give the Soviets not DDay, but still the SBR campaign by the US/UK is huge.  Those two powers rained down destruction day and night, quite literally on Germany, forcing the Nazis to fight two sides.  If it was just the Soviet Bombers that would be different.

      Had the Battle of Britain gone better for Hitler, he would have had more to throw at the Soviets to keep him on his timetable for attacking the US in 1945 and those US/UK bombings would not have thrown off his cross-Atlantic ship and aircraft production.

      The landings in the North Atlantic and Italy were the Western Allies response to the Soviet’s asking for an invasion in '42 and while they were not landings into European mainland, they were direct attacks against the Axis that had to be countered by the Nazis in particular, pulling away troops and materials from the Eastern Front all the while while the SBR campaign continued to rage.

      It really becomes a lot of conjecture…

    • RE: Operation Sealion a Possibility with AA1940 Europe?

      I think at some point, sooner or later, that Hitler would have moved Nazi troops ashore of UK with a treaty.  Though he felt some connection with the two countries backgrounds he still would have wanted his influence felt there and had UK signed a peace treaty he would have pushed it to be to his favor.

      Then with the coming attack on the US that he planned for after taking Europe and Russia he would have needed the room for long range air bases in UK, then Iceland, Azores, Greenland and so on.

      @idk_iam_swiss:

      (try UK without its major Capitol tell me how fun THAT goes for you)

      In my experience, if my capital gets knocked out, I find the game a lot more enjoyable to still have something and help, than to have absolutely nothing that I get with the OOB rules regarding capital capture.

    • RE: Lets Talk Paratroopers!

      Taboo to post in a long dead thread?  maybe… but played Dday last week and wondered if the already standard Paratrooper rules were overlooked in this discussion.  I had forgotten about them myself until I played–had been awhile for DDay.  Couldn’t find them here when looking at least.  If they were, oh well, if not, here they are.

      DDay has paratroopers standard, only AA game to do so, and contains rules for them.  Now, they are set in a specific place in that game, but they could be taken out of that spot for use in other games.

      Cost–??  DDay doesn’t use IPCs to purchase.
      Move/Attack/Defend–all the same as standard Infantry  1/1/2
      Airborne drop advantage–fires preemptively (or defender doesn’t return fire 1st round, whichever way you prefer to look at it.)  @ a 1.

      LH talked about not putting them into games, but he already did, and for the fact that they would be guys with chutes carrying only light arms into battle, in using a 6d to play, attacking at a 1 preemptively when an normal infantry division does the same could be reasonable…
