      @Amon:

      where can i find this version?

      :lol: :-) :roll:

      TripleA unstable version: http://sourceforge.net/projects/triplea/files/

      And it’s called WW2 Revised not WW2v2.

      You can play Revised in the latest unstable versions. It is called WW2v2. You have to download it manually, through the “download maps” button.

    • RE: American split income?

      As for the question of American split income, it is obvious that this is a very bad idea. A&A has not had scripted play mechanisms in any of the global games.

      Better to make the pacific islands worth so much that both Japan and US must fight in the pac, or lose a lot of money.

      Like Hawaii worth 5 ipc, and maybe even more, including NOs.

      If UK and Russia was captured before US sent many troops to Europe, I think the US would not go to war against Germany, only defend their home waters, and eventually secure south America, and capture Japan.

      For Germany’s sake, this had to happen before, or sometime during 1942, b/c then the war was lost for Germany.

      It is ofc very possible that nukes against Germany could be an option, but even today, you need troops on the ground, or at least be 99% certain that your enemy knows that you’re willing to put troops on the ground, like the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia.
      It wasn’t until Milosevic thought that NATO would send in ground troops that he conceded, even if he (Serbia) had lost before the war started.

    • RE: Loss of Capital in Global Game

      @Flashman:

      Again, I suggest that no country should ever produce units in factories other than those it started with.  Even liberated factories might have lower output due to asset stripping/vandalism by the enemy, so there should be a cost involved in getting your own complex back into full productivity.

      I don’t support a rule which prevents building or capturing factories, but a minor tweak could be a better solution.

      The most practical and easiest rule to deal with captured factories, is a scorched earth rule, which means that any country can chose to destroy/remove any factory they own. It this way, the conqueror would have to build new factories, and now ICs cost 12 or 30 ipc.

    • RE: TripleA and Pac40

      @KH:

      I understand how hard it is to get everything right, that will take a lot of effort and time. But…is it also hard/difficult to create a version in which you can move all units to where-ever you want? That would ofcourse not be a good playable version, but a very nice strategy-try out version. I could then move ships and planes according to the rules (airbases, navalbases, scrambling etc.) by myself.

      Like to hear the (im)possibilities.

      Thanks a lot.

      There is an edit version, which if you turn it on, you can remove and add units, and some other features.

      @KH:

      I downloaded version 1.2 of triple A, but I only see game options; Big world, Great war, Capture the flag and minimap New world order…could someone tell me what version of Triple A I should download to get the boardgame versions off Revised, Anniversary and pacific?

      Thanks!

      It is very time consuming to code new rules and features in the TripleA engine, so I guess the developers will focus on the newest versions of A&A, from AA50 to AAP40 and AAE40.

      Paratroopers is a strong tech, and within Cousin_Joes system it should be a major tech.

      @Flashman:

      I fully appreciate the need for the game to potentially diverge from a historical play out; my concern is that an optimum strategy for the Axis similar to that so familiar from previous versions will mean that the historical game NEVER happens, and the Pacific continues to be ignored.

      A historical game means axis always lose.
      For the real WW2, Germany should never attacked Russia before finishing off UK.
      Japan will always lose against US in the Pacific, b/c US had perhaps 4-5 times higher GDP than Japan.

      But the Pacific islands should be worth much more, then we could have a real pacific conflict in the global game.

      A&A can never be historically realistic, unless a $100 bid to balance the game is considered “realistic”?

      The map is being designed, as we speak… :-)

      But AAP40 demands a lot of coding within the TripleA engine, and we can’t expect a playable version anytime soon.

    • RE: How do the Axis win?

      It shouldn’t be hard to win with axis when playing with NOs. Go for the money.

      The fastest way of becoming decent, if you’re in a “learning curve”, is to play AA50, (WW2v3) in the unstable TripleA ladder, imo. It’s way more effective than reading an essay on the different strats and tactics :-)

    • RE: Question: Number of Players in AAE/AAP40 World Game

      @Flashman:

      Only a rock solid Russo-Japanese NAP will prevent this, and for 1940 the timing is wrong.

      You seem to forget that there was also a no-attack-treaty or alliance, between Germany and Russia. Guess what happened?

      In A&A we can do different things than the real WW2 commanders did. If you disagree with this, then you are advocating for a completely different game than A&A has been from Classic to AAP40.

    • RE: Loss of Capital in Global Game

      Russia is the only exception in A&A where the capital is not their whole country. UK, Japan, Italy and Germany are the whole country, not “just” a big city like London or Berlin. US is irrelevant here, b/c the game is decided long before Washington is lost.

      I’m using AA50 as an example, as we don’t know yet how many TTs each power will have in the global AA40.

      And in A&A we would need new rules, imo, if capture capital rules should be changed, by allowing factory movements, and also allowing to move our capitals, like Russia could move to Siberia if pressured by Germans, and if UK think it’s gonna fall to sealion, then UK could move it’s capital to Canada.
      But as we don’t have such rules in A&A I think the current capital rules are OK.

      Norway managed to move the gold reserves to UK when Germany occupied us, but it didn’t matter much, at least not until Norway was liberated.

      Another reason I like the capture capital rules, is that when I take the opponents money, it feels like a knockout in a boxing match.

    • RE: Tech via a Point System

      The points tech system is at least much better than the OOB tech system. But it is a problem in setting the right prices for each tech, b/c some powers will profit more on the same techs than other countries.

      Only 3 powers will profit on sea techs, and Russia will not profit much on air techs compared to Germany, if we chose AA50 as an example.

      Another problem with the techs (in AA50) is that several techs are almost worthless compared to the “middle-strength-techs”, and the game-breaking techs, it will still be a tech race in many games, even if the points tech system is less random than the OOB tech system.

      Another option are (i.e.) with or w/o the point system, low-strength-techs being available before rnd 5, middle-strength-techs available after rnd 5, and the game-winning-techs only being available after rnd 10.

    • RE: Loss of Capital in Global Game

      Why can’t you watch your capitals?

      And very few of all games I lost or won, was caused by the loss of a capital, it was b/c one side had a significant economic advantage.
      Probably 9 out of 10 games, of all games I played, the game was ended by concession before any capital had fallen, or would surely fall on the next rnd.

    • RE: Technology

      @axis_roll:

      So we have HBs as a killer weapon.  We already have a counter:  radar.

      (snip)

      first, these are good ideas to build on, hopefully L.H. will listen to us in future games.

      But you are wrong that radar is a good counter for HBs. HBs are a killer tech not only for SBR attacks, but also for attacks against land units, and attacks against enemy fleets.
      Actually, the best counter for HB tech, is… HB tech…! :-)

      The way to go in making tech non-broken, is (as you said) less randomness and more “fairness”, a system in which players must pay an amount which is somewhat close to the advantage of a specific tech. And instant tech is more powerful than delayed tech, so this must be taken into account when designing a new tech system.

      The power techs in AA50 is, imo, HBs, LRA, mech inf, and paratroopers.

      But not all powers will have an equal advantage getting these techs, especially Italy, which hardly can afford to buy a lot of stuff, unless they got all of Africa.

      Another option is also a rule which, i.e., if you pay 5 ipc, you will get LRA the fifth turn, or you can choose to pay 25 ipc and get it on the same turn, either instantly, or delayed.

      As it is now, at least in AA50, tech rolls are practically the same as Yahtzee.
