      @a44, I think you should try some TripleA live games in the unstable lobby. I have seen games w/o bids, but there are very few no bid games compared to the “agreement” that allies need 6-9 ipc to balance the game.

      And for the record, in the TripleA lobby, there are both n00bs and expert players.

      If a US pac strat is successful, and Moscow doesn’t fall, the allies win b/c of much more $.

      But if Germany takes Moscow, and Japan sees that it start losing the pac war from rnd 4-5, Japan will be stacked so it can’t be captured until 6-8 rnds after (if) japan loses most or all of its islands, maybe more. In that time, Germany will have all of (mainland) Asia and all of Africa, with a little help from Italy.

      @a44bigdog:

      However if things go bad for Japan there seems to be very little the Axis can do, even taking out Russia with Germany may not be enough.

      This is definitely wrong. If Moscow falls to axis, it is game over 100% certain, if axis does not lose any capitals, but I’d rather have Moscow than Italy.

      The reason why axis will win more games than allies, generally, is that the axis side will not get bad dice more than 50% of all games. So it is very possible to win a few games with allies, but it is not possible in the long run, assuming 1vs1 and experienced players. More than 50% of all games, axis will have Africa for several rnds, and while axis can win w/o Africa, allies will suffer dearly if Africa is lost.

    • RE: 1941 with NOs, what is your bid? (experienced players only)

      I voted $9 but I could possible go for $8, but I prefer to play axis.

      Even if axis must do many more attacks compared to revised, imo, this doesn’t change the size of the bid needed to balance the game, as in LL vs regular dice.

      I’m gonna repeat myself to those who haven’t got into the AA50 41 +NO in depth, there are only two ways to win (as allies) w/o a bid, and that is either playing against a total n00b, or axis have extremely bad luck rnd 1.

    • RE: NO and their importance for strategy

      @DarthMaximus:

      I’d like to test something, so I was was wondering if anyone wanted to play a test game?

      1 - I’d take the Allies with 3 ipc (1 extra UK inf on Egy) - I’d like to keep it as close to the original set-up as possible and what I want to test would probably be moot if Ger took Egy really heavy.

      2 - I’d need someone who is confident in their Axis play.

      3 - You’d have to do a “normal” G1.  By that I mean you can’t buy any ships on G1.  Use a standard opening.

      4 - Regular dice, No Tech, Yes NOs.  No other optionals.

      5 - It shouldn’t take very long to see what I want to test, so after 1-3 rds we can probably decide if the game is viable to play out longer.

      I have two league games that will take priority but should still be able to do a turn a day and would like a similar pace.

      It should be a fun test.

      It wouldn’t be difficult to find someone in the TripleA lobby to play axis against (you) allies with just a $3 allied bid, not even with regular dice.

    • RE: Game imbalance - Look at the Unit IPC totals

      I guess most or all the playtesting for AA50 was done in multiplayer games, in 1vs1 the tactics and strategy is much more effective. It’s not impossible to win as allies in AA50 w/o a bid, but there are only two ways, either axis have very bad luck rnd 1, or the axis player is not even semi decent.

      The building of Bismark and other huge battleships is evidence that the Germans didn’t understand modern naval warfare. Bismarck and other huge vessels would be sunk by the British or the Americans eventually.

      I’m Norwegian so the US geography was not the most important thing to learn at school, most of us learn (some of)  it later in life anyway, b/c US is the most important country in the western world, and the most interesting one to follow news and such, so for many outside the US (especially in Europe), it is generally the country we know most of, except for our own country. And all the films and TV series from the US contributes a lot.

      But I think the reason why I was wrong on the actual number of states, is that, at least here in Norway, and probably in other European countries too, we tend to say that this or that country is the 51 state, b/c we (or other countries and politicians) follow and/or support the US foreign policy automatically instead of deciding our own foreign policy. And this issue is not necessarily related to the fact that we have many different opinions of the US foreign policy.

      I haven’t played as many 42 games as 41, but I guess the bid level to balance the game is about the same.

      And in the TripleA lobby it is common to use LL, although, many players also use regular dice. This doesn’t seem to influence the bid level.

      Personally, when playing 42 as allies, it is a nightmare to decide the R1 attacks in regular dice setting. I would rather play axis with a higher allied bid just for the difficult decisions regarding the opening rnd for Russia.

      For both 41 and 42 scenarios with experienced players, unless axis got very unlucky dice rolls rnd1, a bid is needed or axis will win almost all games.

    • RE: Haiti-Total disaster!!

      @tkroll:

      Heard a news story today- apparently a group of Haitians spoke to some of the US military helping out down there asking us to take over the country, stating if that happened they wouldn’t starve and would be working. I can’t say I blame them for feeling that way. Just a bit I heard on the radio.

      The Haitians would be better of if Haiti become the 52 state in the US.
      But not to forget, there have been several US interests and influentials in the current Haitian government, and that has worked out very bad for the majority of Haitian citizens.

      @Veqryn:

      When playing WITH NOs, it has become typical and accepted that the allies get a 6-9 ipc bid
      i do not know anyone on tripleA who plays without a 6 ipc bid for the allies (when National Objectives are active)

      What are the bid rules in Triple A….are those Allied bids unrestricted?
      Somehow I thought they were instantly placed and restricted to one unit per territory

      There are no official bid rules in TripleA, but most players agree on one unit pr. TT.

      I also doubt there are any TripleA players who don’t use bids, in NO games. $6-$9 is most common.

      This is copy paste post from the TripleA main site, in case new players are not updated on how the “new” TripleA works:

      Here is a list of places where you can get popular maps for TripleA (version 1.2 and later):

      All you have to do is start up TripleA 1.2.X.X (Yes that means run the .exe or .sh) and click on the “Download Maps” button. A dialog box will open where you can add links to “Map Repositories” (sites that host maps.) Here’s are a few to add:

      I just hope people understand that the goal of the aid that is sent there should not be to return the country to what it was before the disaster and instead to create a nation that accauly works.

      It’s probably not the goal of aid not make the country working, that should be the goal of the leaders in Haiti.

      A Norwegian Geologist said that the earthquake was not terribly strong, but many of the deaths are caused directly by poverty, and thereby, (imo) the fact that Haiti is a country who is ruled very very badly.
