    • RE: KJF etc.

With low luck its nearly impossible to take London G1, even with trans bid in sz5.
Except with long range aircraft, that’s a different story.
And I don’t play tech, ever!
That is, about 30% to capture UK G1.
If Germany buy 5 trans on G1, then there’s a possibillity for sealion G2 if allies let this happen.
That’s gonna stop a KJF for sure.

Sorry that you wouldn’t accept my challenge, and I challenged you first
With those rules you are playing with, anything can happen….
I would accept 7 bid, IC India UK1, low luck, all US production spent in pacific,
no German naval investment on my behalf,
I would beat you for sure  8-)

If all US production is used in pacific (from L.A.) + at least 9 ipc from UK each rnd, then I’m happy to play you,
using tripleA, if you can host, I can’t.

Now, 5 German trans G1 is definately going to stop this, but I won’t buy trans with Germany
      anyway.
      I take 8 bid for G, 9 if you give me 1 ipc…
Then we make an appointment for when we play.
      TTL, no tech, low luck.

In an IJF, that means taking all Japanese TT’s except Tokyo, before going after Germany?
What resources will be spent against Japan, and what resources will be used against Germany?

It would be fun to play you anyway, with or without KJF,
and if I beat you, I get to see teh secret naked Jennypics

Jennifer, by the time US can do what you are talking about, the game would be over.
I’m tempted to challenge you to do a KJF on me……
TripleA, 9 bid axis (ladder rules, max 1 unit bid place pr. TT.)
      TTL, low luck. No tech.
If you beat me, i think that will be because you are better, and not because of your KJF strat.

With players on the same level, axis should get a 8-9 bid IMO.

Larry Harris himself has said that he hates tech.

So I hope and believe that tech will be removed altogether in the 5th.ed. rules sometime in the future.

My war weasels will dig tunnels and attack LA from below….
They will hook up with the Chinese in Chinatown, and they will send a clear message:
      Resistant is futile!
Then LA will surrender, and Japan can build 10 inf each rnd, US will never take it back

It suprises me that someone actually believes that the tank blitz to Arch. is important.
A game to decide who is right???
      You’re all arguing weather it’s 0.5, -1, -2 etc….
There are many more stupid or clever moves which will be done in any game, than the tank blitz to Arch.
      Get real.

Jennifer, would you also do pearl if UK has 2 inf in Borneo, 2 inf in NG, DD sz59,
UK sub in sz45, UK ftr is in sz59 with AC, sz48 on AC, or in sz52 on US AC?
Not to forget UK trans in sz47 and sz48.

    • RE: Nit picky German Economizer

Generally it’s better to retreat units from TT’s if you know you can’t hold it, but not always.
Example: Jap has 30 tanks in Novo, Russia attacks with everything (cap is safe this rnd),
Russia is left with 5 units in Novo, Jap has 18 tanks in Sink, and 9 tanks in Kwang, Manch and Frindo.
Russia has 15 ipc, Jap has 45 ipc.
Japan usually lose more TUV in the Novo battle, but as Russia is very weak and Jap is very strong,
I would push every Jap units towards Moscow, regardless of bad TUV change,
Russia couldn’t handle the pressure for more than a couple of more rnds.

Now the German tank in Arch. is G1, but this is how I think and play, sometimes it works,
      sometimes it doesn’t.
If I buy AC G1, then I would probably keep the tank, but then the strat is different.

Everything can be possible in theory,
but KUSF would only work if there is a HUGE difference in player skills.

The reason why I would drive my German tank to Arch is

      1. If Russia kills it, Russian units use one extra turn to reach WRU or Cauc.
      2. If UK kills it, they can’t both do this and take Norway, or attack Kalia.

I prefer to play aggressive when I feel strong.
Germany is stronger than Russia in the beginning of the game.
If you look at it this way, why should Germany attack Africa at all, allies will almost in every case take it
back….? But I usually try to get a hold in Africa, because axis must play aggressive in the beginning,
allies need only to keep what they have.

    • RE: Need crash course in Japan.

China is mandatory, pearl is standard, but if UK goes all in at the pacific, then maybe it could be better
to just kill all UK naval units and take back Borneo.
If UK retreats pac then do pearl.
If UK unifies then kill it or go all in on pearl.
Think 3 rnds ahead. Make a stack in Sink, secure India, and take Siberia,
Jap must use both trans and IC to get as much stuff to mainland as possible.

    • RE: Balanced Strategy

Except for sealion, which rarely happens, and mostly because UK is way to risky, not guarding own
capital, there is no other alternative for axis than KRF.
In cases where Germany is not contesting allies for Africa at all, then maybe US could contain Jap
in pacific, instead of moving from Africa to Persia.
UK would then be able to contain Germany together with Russia.
It’s not an good idea to contain Jap from LA.

    • RE: Weasels in Alaska - A Hypothetical

      @trihero:

The Japanese decided to be annoying, and they landed 2 inf in Alaska on J2 (which was vacant), and they guarded the transport with 2 battleships and a carrier (with 2 fighters). Whether or not this is a good move for the Japanese is not the point; the point is that you have to deal with it as the Americans. (but feel free to discuss too whether this is a good move or not for the Japanese, it’s not like we always stay on the point here do we )

Your US build 1 was a carrier, 2 tran, 3 inf and 1 art on the US East Coast. Currently you have 3 inf in W. Canada, 2 fighters in E. Canada, 1 fighter/1bomb in UK, and the rest of your men are on the US East Coast (well, the AA gun from the W. Coast is still there, but otherwise unoccupied)

What is your decision, commander? Of course, you will be building some men on the West Coast - how many? Do you decide to contest Alaska with 2 inf yourself every turn + airplanes? Some variation? Or not at all? Keep in mind that the Japanese have 2 bb shots every turn, and discuss your answer. (I don’t have a fixed answer in mind). The Japanese will continue to attempt to assault Alaska with 2 inf + fighters + bb shot every turn unless you either present a threat to their navy or stack Alaska high enough that it no longer becomes worth it. They will also stop bringing men if you don’t contest it (that means they will sit 2 inf on there and send their transport back until you start contesting again). What will you do, commander?

As Japan I would build IC in Alaska, move to WCA after building up enough frontline strength, then capture LA and building from
WUS instead of Alaske, move to CUS, take Washington and do weasel war dance!!

If UK get lucky in UK1, they got Borneo and New Guinea, Jap sub killed, Jap trans killed.
      6 Russian inf in Bury.
Then the pacific map is looking like it is probably not a good alternative to do pearl, at least
      not always.

Ender, you’re right about that Russia will use forces from Moscow, but those units will take one more rnd
to move to WRU, Cauc or Kalia in order to attack Belo or Ukr.
This is just a minor detail, a game will not be decided by a German tank to Arch.

I would prefer (as Germany) that Russia allocate forces to Arch, that means less strenght on the
eastern front, and if they use ftrs then Russia cannot use them in Ukr or Kalia.

About the boardgame, I understand you fully.
I’ve been playing different versions of A&A for many years, but when I played the boardgame
against a couple of friends a month ago, I just gave up. The board is too small, the units are too many and too big
      to fit physically, IMO.

I guess your son already plays chess, that’s much easier to learn.
      A&A takes time.
Time is on your side, and if have a lot of patience you will learn both rules and strategy.
It’s very fun once you get going.
Just keep reading, keep trying, keep failing, and keep going, and you will be the Greatest
      Emperor of the Neighbourhood   8-)

      @Cmdr:

      Pearl cannot be abandoned.

Yes, I’ve done it several times, and also seen many games with no pearl J1, the only difference is that US would not buy AC US1,
      or buy only 1 AC.
A few times US lands in SFE.
Actually I cannot recall games that this have had significant importance.
Then again, a big majority of all games I’ve seen and played, Jap does pearl J1.
