I am not a fan of them and much prefer National Objectives.

Hey Field Marshal Games, is there anything at all new that you can tell us? I’m dying for more info here. Please!! :-) I wanna get my hands on the Italians!

Maybe War Bonds could be something like: ‘roll two dice and keep the best result’ (just like the new Heavy Bombers).
And how about something like ‘Improved ASDIC - your Destroyers are now 3/3 against enemy submarines’.(I am developing some new house rule technologies at the moment for an advanced Europe 1941 game I’m making)

Seriously though, what would it take for a decent pc games developer to make the AA50 game? Must be simple enough to do! Is it a question of funding or what?

RE: Russiaposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I like that idea too. I am currently working on an advanced Europe game myself, 1941 style. And so I am working on initial placements for the Soviet armies at the moment, based on data taken from my Hearts Of Iron II game. But will it work for A&A? Yes, the Soviets were unprepared, but they still had so many troops… it’s giving me headaches at the moment!

I’m using the little green monopoly houses for my minor ICs (I’m making an advanced A&A Europe game) and I’ve painted them fortress grey. I must say they look good.

RE: Need some input/guidance on new unit att/def valuesposted in House Rules
Thanks guys. IL, I took a look at what I thought was the file you were referring to. I’d like some input from other players as well please. Did I read somewhere before that Cruisers had more anti-aircraft guns on them then Destroyers or Battleships? I Rock, why do you say 3 for Aircraft Carrier air defence? Did those vessels have a lot of anti air guns on them or something? I’m thinking 3 is a little high for any sea unit but I’m open to ideas! Thanks.
So it’s looking like:
Destroyer 2
Cruiser 2
Aircarft Carrier 3
Battleship 2I originally thought 1 for BBs to reflect their weakness against air attack. Any more suggestions? Once I get this matter squared away, I’ll then take on air unit capabilities. It’s all good.

RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+Aposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
When attacking/SBRing with two or more Heavy Bombers, should we roll for each unit seperately? Or do we just through all the dice together and pick the best results out? For example: I attack with 3 Heavy Bombers - do I roll two dice for each unit seperately, or do I throw all six dice at once and pick the best three results?
Many thanks.

Oh my God. They’re beautiful. I’d be interested to know how much you’d charge for a painted set. I have paints and would be happy to do it myself but it just takes so long! After the fourth infantry piece, I’d be derranged with the tedium…

Need some input/guidance on new unit att/def valuesposted in House Rules
Hey guys, I’m currently designing a new map and ruleset for an advanced Europe game. However, I want to implement some rules whereby a unit will have different att/def capabilities against different types of units. So - before I get too carried away with this, does anyody know if such a thread already exists here? Please point me in the right direction. :-)
If not, then I want to start with the sea units. Destroyers, Cruisers, Aircarft Carriers and Battleships will all keep their existing att/def values in naval combat (ship against ship). However, I want to give them a different set of values against aircraft. Now, it’s only the defence value I’m interested in as ships don’t attack aircraft.
I’d like your help/input/guidance with regard to finding a nice balance for these defence values. I admit I don’t know very much about the historical accuracy of WWII surface warships anti-air capabilities, so I would welcome any expert advice. All I have managed to come up with so far is:
Destroyer 2
Cruisers 2
Aircarft Carrier 2
Battleships 1Is that in any way a good relection? Many thanks for all your help.

Tell me, do you apply any kind of matt finish varnish to the minis? If not, do they chip easily when stored together in a box or bag? I’m loving those Anzacs…

I’m happy for all you guys who got the extra pieces and corrected battle strip. It’s encouraging to see WOTC do this so soon. However, I will still reserve my purchase of AAP40 until a corrected reprint is released, if this ever comes to pass.

Man, I love it. I used to paint minis myself but nothing ever as small as A&A infantry. What impresses me most is the power’s symbol in the base - truly magnificent. Tell me, do you use any kind of eyeglass or somesuch equipment? I mean, they really are spot on aren’t they? Good work, keep it coming!

Hey allworkandnoclay, I’m seriously impressed with that photograph! Those Chinese Infantry must have taken you weeks? Probably the best painted infantry I’ve ever seen, man… outstanding.

I voted No because there’s already plenty going on as it is, what with National Objectives and the like. They were cool with AAR but things have moved on from there.

RE: AA50 FAQ Updateposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Dear Krieghund,
I’m a wee bit confused regarding the new entry about Paratroopers on page 3 of the updated FAQ. It says “If a Tank is blitzing through an unoccupied hostile territory…etc” I thought that territories (on land) were either ‘controlled’ or ‘occupied’ (or indeed both) and that sea zones (on water) were either ‘hostile’ or ‘friendly’ (but never both).
So - is there any such thing as an unoccupied hostile territory? I would have thought that if an enemy territory was occupied then it was considered hostile. I did not think that an enemy controlled - but unoccupied - territory would have been considered hostile.
Therefore, I would have expected the rules to allow both the Bomber (carrying the Paratrooper) and the Tank to blitz together through the first enemy controlled territory, and on to the second enemy controlled and occupied (hostile) territory. Or - if the second one was also empty, and the tank would have to stop due to it’s movement of 2 - the Bomber & Para could continue onwards (range permitting) until they found a hostile territory.
I hope that makes sense? Sorry to be a pain but I hope you can resolve this puzzle. Thank you again in advance. :-)

RE: U-Boat Positioning on G2posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I’ve had exactly this same situation as well. Germany brings in 1 Sub, 1 Ftr and 1 Bmbr. Defending are the UK BB and Soviet Sub. The German Sub chooses not to submerge. The Sov Sub chooses not to submerge. The Ger Sub fires its surprise strike and hits. The Sov Sub will also fire its surprise strike - let’s say it misses. I believe it would be wiser for the defenders to take Germany’s hit on the Sov sub because the German Ftr and Bmbr cannot hit the Sub (no defending Destroyer present). With the opening fire stage over, it’s now the Luftwaffe vs the Royal Navy.
But to answer your question, I think both Submarines are allowed to surprise strike before hits are assigned. Krieghund, is this correct? I know that a defending Destroyer would prevent defending surface warships from being sunk before they could return fire, but what about defending Submarines? Can they still fire back or are they wiped out before they get the chance?
Many thanks.
