That’s fair enough and no, I don’t want to delay Italy either. I would like to keep the sets uniform though. So, in my opinion - if the Italians get a Tank (Carro Armato M13/40) and a Self Propelled Gun (Semovente), then the Germans should get the same. And I reckon that should be the Panzer IV Tank and the Hummel SPG.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
To my knowledge, the German Tank WOTC used in D-Day was the Panther, just like all the other recent games. I’ve never seen a WOTC Tiger.
Now, I wonder whether FMG will make the German Tank No 2 mold/model into a Self Propelled Gun, Assault Gun or some kind of mobile Artillery… I only mention this because the Italian Tank No 2 was the Semovente (a SPG; not a Tank)… ergo Artillery. To continue this trend would be more in keeping with Italy’s units.
If we want two Tanks for Germany (say, a Panzer IV medium and a Tiger I heavy) then I believe Italy should also get the heavy Tank model (the P-40).
FMG - do you see what is happening here?

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Well if that’s true, then it’s an interesting situation for Italy because the Mech Inf playing piece is generic for all major powers in the game; not a technological improvement like it was in AA50. So - if that’s the case, then the upcoming AA Europe 40 will see the Italians as already having acquired that technology, won’t it?
I suppose that the Infantry piece in the A&A game series is given as having a motorised compliment included within it… So I guess they will never make a dedicated Motorised Infantry piece (and that’s fair enough I think, due to the scale of the theatre/global games).
Will FMG therefore provide this gap in the market and produce Motorised Infantry? :-)

RE: What do you want to be the next AA game?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I would love to see a dedicated ‘Axis & Allies - Operation Barbarossa’, set in June 1941. I therefore voted “eastern front in general” although I have been patiently waiting for a Stalingrad game for a long time. I don’t think we will see one though due to the scale of the conflict in that area. So, it would be cool to have a huge ostfront map with victory cities like Kiewv, Minsk, Odessa etc as well as oil fields of Caucasus. I expect this game could have a closer (or more zoomed-in) scale and therefore we could have units like Tank Destroyers, SPGs etc.

Did the Italians have Mechanised Infantry during WWII?

It’s weird, but I’m more excited about the upcoming Italy set than I am about Europe 40… Now that’s gotta be saying something! :-)

Hey FMG,
How are things going with the last of the Italian units? What’s the current situation with the Strat Bomber piece? Are you guys working on a scult right now?
Thank you

RE: WOTC gettin with the times!!!posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I bet we don’t get paper IPCs with Europe 40. But maybe we will… you know, to complete the Global Experience. They might just include it, you never know.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
FMG stated they don’t want to repeat molds of existing OOB figures? Seriously? For heaven’s sake, why? :? We are paying for this project; shouldn’t we get to choose which units we want? I am buying these FMG sets to replace my Chimps pieces; not to double them. The two units will be incomparable due to detail and colour! They will not sit side by side. I tell you what - as soon as I get my Italy set, my AA50 Italy units will never again see the light of day… But that’s just me.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Does anybody know if FMG have declared the unit models for the Germany molds yet? I’d be most interested to know what they are planning! I would like to see:
Armour 1 - Pz Kpfw IV (I think it is the obvious choice; you don’t see too many Panthers or Tigers in France 1940!)
Armour 2 - Hummel or Wespe (I hope we will get a SPG, assault gun or some kind of mech. arty - Italy got the Semovente…)
Fighter - Messerschmitt Me109 (It is the staple workhorse fighter plane.)
Tac Bomber - JU 87 Stuka (You know it’s gotta be done!)
Strat Bomber - JU 88A-5 (The mainstay of the Luftwaffe bomber fleet?)
Those are a few ideas for starters… I’m hungry for the German pieces!! Bring them on! :-D

RE: Do you prefer the dardanelles open or closed? Why and who does it favour?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
In my games, we toss a coin for it. I prefer closed though, as that’s more historically accurate. I think having it closed favours the Allies a bit, because it protects Caucasus from amphibous assault.

It was going for £65 or more over here. I’m not sure that $100 plus shipping is good value for money. Especially not in a game with barely enough units, no paper money, and no factory units. If I see some good write-ups for Europe - I’ll get both. If not - neither, and Anniversary will be the way to go.
My thoughts exactly, Army of Northern Virginia.

None taken…
That is my opinion and I’m sticking to it, I’m afraid. I wish Larry Harris would have his games made by a company who cares.

RE: Europe 1940 shows up on Wizards site…with screenshotposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Well, for what it’s worth - I won’t be buying Europe 40 until it can be ascertained that the product is of at least ‘reasonable’ quality, and therefore value for money. I did not buy Pacific 40 because of the huge number of quality issues associated with that game, and the very high cost here in the UK. Time will tell, I guess. But as it stands, I have no faith in the ‘Chimps of the Coast’ to deliver a decent, fine quality product; they just don’t care.
I have hoped and prayed for a re-release of Pac 40 with all the errors fixed, but so far this has not materialised. However, I am much more keen on the Europe theatre as opposed to the Pacific anyway, so I am feeling more inclined to buy this 1940 version. Obviously, I am aware that I will need both games in order to play the ultimate experience. But until am I satisfied that this is all a worthwhile venture, I will be more than happy to stick with AA50, as it is brilliant.

RE: AA Europe '40 Box Artposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I agree with LHoffman. I think the box art is boring - it looks just like the last few we have had. I was really hoping for something more exciting this time, with a large German representation on it. Personally, I don’t think we need to see flags on the cover at all. Leaves more room for battles/soldiers/tanks/planes/ships. I think every game should have a good deal of distinction in terms of style and colours. Guadalcanal had this cool green look to it which reminded me of the island jungles and stuff.
