    • RE: Piece count

@knp7765: Yeah that’s cool, I can always just replace all of the new 1942SE UK Destroyers with their older counterparts from 1st Edition or even from AA50 if need be. And I don’t think we’re ever going to need all 20 green chips. Not the end of the world.

@wittman: Okay mate, good luck with the 1941 - hope you get it soon. You said you got this 1942SE, what did you think of it? Any missing pieces.

    • Piece count

I received my copy last night and set her up. She’s an awesome sight - look at all those German armies!

Anyway, I’ve looked and can’t seem to find a thread for piece counts so thought I’d start one to see if anyone has any discrepancies:

      Game Board (2 seperate pieces)

      Rulebook

      20 Control Markers per power

      12 Industrial Complexes (cardboard)

      6 dice (3 red, 3 black)

      79 chips (50 grey, 19 green, 10 red)

      5 setup charts

      410 playing pieces:

      UNITED STATES:

      Infantry: 20                      Fighter: 8
      Artillery: 6                        Bomber: 6
      Tank: 6                            Submarine: 6
      Antiaircraft Artillery: 8        Transport: 6
      Destroyer: 6                     Cruiser: 4
      Battleship: 4                     Aircraft Carrier: 4

      SOVIET UNION:

      Infantry: 20                       Fighter: 8
      Artillery: 8                         Bomber: 2
      Tank: 10                           Submarine: 4
      Antiaircraft Artillery: 8         Transport: 4
      Destroyer: 4                      Cruiser: 2
      Battleship: 2                      Aircraft Carrier: 2 Â

      JAPAN:

      Infantry: 20                      Fighter: 8
      Artillery: 6                        Bomber: 4
      Tank: 6                           Submarine: 6
      Antiaircraft Artillery: 8        Transport: 6
      Destroyer: 6                     Cruiser: 4
      Battleship: 4                     Aircraft Carrier: 4 Â

      UNITED KINGDOM:

      Infantry: 20                      Fighter: 8
      Artillery: 6                        Bomber: 6
      Tank: 8                           Submarine: 5
      Antiaircraft Artillery: 8        Transport: 6
      Destroyer: 7                    Cruiser: 4
      Battleship: 4                     Aircraft Carrier: 2 Â

      GERMANY:

      Infantry: 20                       Fighter: 8
      Artillery: 8                         Bomber: 4
      Tank: 12                           Submarine: 6
      Antiaircraft Artillery: 8         Transport: 6
      Destroyer: 6                      Cruiser: 4
      Battleship: 2                      Aircraft Carrier: 2 Â

I thought the UK Destroyer and Cruiser numbers were odd. Did anyone else find this? Also, I seem to be missing 1 green chip - but I’m not complaining.

      @mrninjaz:

Wow, and I didn’t spell “unit” correctly in the title.  :x

Don’t forget, you can always go back and edit your post and the title. Hope that helps.

    • RE: Avalon hill webpage is unchanged since 2 years ago!

Yeah I must admit I do still check the AH homepage about once or twice a month. I remember a time when that site used to be busy, but alas not any more, not for a long time. Even the A&A forums on there are dead. Sad really.

    • Unofficial 1941 Game Inconsistencies Thread

As Djensen did with the 1942 2E game, I thought I would field a list of any issues players can find that may need to be addressed and hopefully corrected in any future print runs. So here goes…

Obviously, the biggest mistake so far is that the National Production track on the game board states 15 IPCs for the US when it should in fact be 17.

Other things I noticed in the rulebook:

The set up chart for the US states for sea zone 42 “carrying 2 Fighters”. This is odd and should clearly have been omitted or just shortened to “2 Fighters”. There was no need for the word ‘carrying’.

Page 11 under combat movement examples shows a German Artillery unit invading a Soviet territory along with some other German units. As we all know, there is no Artillery in this game. A small thing I know, but new players may get confused.

Page 13 shows a German Tank blitzing in two diagrams. The first one (on the left) is incorrect as it shows that although there is a movement arrow leading the Tank out of the Caucasus territory, there should not be a second arrow leading out of Caucaus (as the Tank has only just entered the territory). The second diagram is correct. Â

Page 22 under Industrial Complexes. The first instance of the words (Silhoutette printed on map) should be removed as these words are already printed just underneath in the very spot where you would expect to see them. That’s my impression anyway…

Page 2, third paragraph. Albeit a small thing, it would be nice if the word allies could start with a capital ‘a’ (Allies as opposed to allies).

Is there anything else people would like to add? Thanks for reading.

    • RE: Tiger tanks molded in the Japanese Colour.

Sometimes it’s the little things that bug me, like the fact that the UK Tank silhouette has detailed treads and the other tanks don’t. It’s like, let’s have some consistency here please! Blimey…

WoTC, I’d be glad to do proofreading for free games

Man, I would gladly do it for nothing!  :-)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Even with the new sculpts in the 41 game, the shapes shown in the rulebook are from previous versions of the game. I guess they just didn’t want to bother redrawing them.

A real pity, that. Maybe they should have just skipped this whole section in the rulebook; it’s virtually irrelevant for the 1941 game anyway.

    • RE: AA42 Questions & Answers

And the only enemy sea units you would need to worry about would be Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, Cruisers & Destroyers (surface warships). Submarines (warships but not surface warships) and Transports (neither warships or surface warships) will not stop your amphibious assault in any way (unless you choose to engage them with your warships).

      Hope that makes sense!  :-)

Wow, I love that battle board! Great idea having a ‘front line’, ‘support’ and ‘reserves’ sections. All sorts of possibilities here… Larry, take note!  :-)

Hey guys, it’s me! Yes, you’d both be very welcome any time for a game. I don’t have Global yet (but will be buying the 1940 reprints when they come out) and I am getting 1942 2nd ed. very soon hopefully. I am also a lager lout and it often leads to hilarious games and, for my part, crushing defeats! :-D

      Wittman,

I appreciate your sentiment mate. Have you purchased 1942 2nd Ed yet? I am just waiting to hear back from my FLGS to see how much they’re selling it for…

At the end of the current round (after the end of the US player’s turn) which would be the end of entire round of play.

    • RE: Not enough units.. How many more?

I have completely swapped out all of my 1941 peices with those from my Spring 1942, save the German Tigers and the Soviet AC Carriers (I also painted all of the Japanese Tigers black so I’ve got 10 German Tanks now). It’s a shame to not use those nice new sculpts but oh well, no big deal.

    • RE: 1941 FAQ

      @cressman8064:

Do Seazones 6 & 8 connect? It looks like there is a water boarder between the two SZ.

I believe that is indeed a sea zone border between 6 and 8. At least, my group have been playing it that way (in that you can move between sea zones 6 & 8). Perhaps we will get an official clarification on this at some point.

    • RE: Russian Sea Units

It looks like the Soviet Union can only launch new sea units into sea zone 18, and even then… where can they go? Nowhere because the Turkish straights are closed.

I noticed something in the rulebook that I think might be new but maybe someone can confirm: apparently lone Transports cannot make an amphibious assault in a sea zone that contains an enemy Submarine; your Transport must be escorted by a friendly warship or there must already be a friendly warship in the sea zone. I never heard of this before, is it new?

Also, I have completely supplemented all of the 1941 pieces with my own from previous editions except for the Soviet Aircraft Carriers and the German Tanks. And, I painted all 5 of my orange Japanese Tiger Tanks black, and so I now have 10 Tigers. Cool, huh?

Mate, that’s too bad. If I lived near you I’d gladly give you a game. You know, sometimes I think there can’t be more than 50 A&A players in the UK!  :-(

    • RE: Will they come out with an A&A Pearl Harbor

For what it’s worth, I don’t think we’ll ever see a Pearl Harbour game as it’s based on one battle over a very small area, and would most likely not constitute any land forces. At least D-Day was spread over several fronts and land units can take part. I think Pearl Harbour would just be too limited in scope. I mean, what would the map look like? I just can’t imagine it.

I’m not knocking you Scarapis, it’s a good idea - I just doubt very much that it’ll ever see the light of day.
